"Gloom!!"
Seeing this, Erika immediately ran over. At this time, the figure also appeared with Gloom and gently placed it on the ground.
Ash and Pikachu looked at the figure in front of them in surprise.
Compared to Charmander, this Pokémon's body color was darker, its expression more intense. Its eyes were sharper, its mouth resembled a bird's beak, and a horn extended from the top of its head to the back.
Its arms were longer, and where there had been small claws, sharp nails now glinted. Its tail had grown, and the flame at the tip burned more vigorously than before.
"Charmeleon?!"
The intense feeling earlier had been evolution—Charmeleon had emerged at a critical moment.
"Roar!!!"
The newly evolved Charmeleon roared loudly at the sky, spitting out a powerful flame. With the surrounding area already ablaze, the fire intensified even further.
"What are you doing? Starting a fire in this situation? Return now!" Ash quickly retrieved Charmeleon into its Poké Ball.
"Erika, let's get out of here first!" Ash called out urgently after withdrawing Charmeleon.
"Got it!"
Erika nodded. Though Gloom was not very heavy, Erika, needed help. Ash carried Gloom as they hurried toward the exit.
Parts of the path ahead were blocked by flames. Fortunately, Erika knew the area well and found a safer route.
Boom!!!
Just as they were about to leave, a burning tree collapsed in front of them, startling Erika.
"Pikachu, use Iron Tail!" Ash commanded immediately.
"Pika! Pika-pi~~~chaaa!!"
Pikachu dashed forward, its tail glowing with metallic energy. With a powerful swing, the burning tree shattered, clearing the path. Erika exhaled in relief and gave Ash a grateful glance.
"We're almost outside!" Erika encouraged, glancing ahead before continuing.
Ash nodded, following closely behind her with Gloom in his arms.
"Is everyone safe?" Outside, the rest of the group and staff were already evacuating Pokémon back into their Poké Balls and working to extinguish the fire.
"Ash! Ash and Erika are still inside! I have to go find them!" Misty exclaimed, panicked. She had been helping Brock and hadn't noticed Ash and Erika hadn't come out yet.
"Wait, Misty, don't rush in! Ash can handle this. If you go in, he'll just have to worry about you, too. The best thing we can do is focus on putting out the fire!" Brock reasoned, pulling her back.
Though anxious, Misty realized Brock was right. Taking a deep breath, she said, "Alright. Staryu, Starmie, help out with Water Gun!"
She released her Pokémon to join the others in dousing the flames.
"Geodude, use Sand Attack! Onix, block the fire with Rock Tomb!"
Brock sprang into action. Onix summoned massive rocks with Rock Tomb, creating a barrier to stop the flames from spreading further. Meanwhile, Geodude stirred up sand with Sand Attack, smothering parts of the fire.
"Ah! It's Erika and the others!" one of the young women exclaimed as two figures emerged from the entrance.
Ash and Erika dashed out of the building, Gloom in hand. Seeing them safe, the crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness!" Misty said, finally relaxing.
However, the fire was raging out of control. The flames had climbed to the roof, and thick black smoke billowed into the sky. It would still be a while before the fire trucks arrived.
Ash glanced upward at the darkening sky, his expression serious. Then, an idea struck him.
"Charmeleon, I choose you!" Ash tossed a Poké Ball, and Charmeleon reappeared, landing firmly on the ground with a low growl.
"Charmeleon? Charmander evolved?" Misty asked in surprise, not knowing what had transpired earlier.
"Charmeleon, use Flamethrower into the air!" Ash commanded, pointing toward the smoke-covered sky.
"Charrrr!"
Charmeleon roared, its fiery tail flaring brighter as it unleashed a powerful Flamethrower straight into the sky. A blazing pillar of fire pierced through the black smoke, rising high into the atmosphere.
"Keep it up, Charmeleon!" Ash encouraged.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Charmeleon continued releasing searing flames into the sky. The crowd watched, puzzled by Ash's actions.
"Why is Ash making it worse by adding more fire?!" Misty exclaimed in frustration.
"Wait... this is..." Brock's eyes widened in realization.
The rising heat intensified, causing the dark clouds above to swirl and thicken. A low rumble echoed across the sky. The temperature difference was triggering the formation of thunderclouds.
"Ash is raising the temperature to force thunderclouds to gather!" Brock explained. "Once the conditions are right, it'll rain!"
Ash nodded, focusing on Charmeleon. "Keep going, Charmeleon! You're doing great!"
The flames continued to climb, and the sky rumbled louder. Before long, droplets of rain began to fall, quickly growing into a downpour.
"It's raining! We're saved!" one of the women in the gym cheered as the rain began to extinguish the fire.
The crowd erupted in cheers, relieved as the rain poured down, quelling the flames and clearing the smoke. Ash and Charmeleon stood tall, their efforts saving the day.
