Online Game: I Can Summon Demon Dogs

Chapter 6: Into The Unknown-3

Cade and Fang crept through the winding dungeon corridors, the eerie whispers and distant echoes keeping them on edge. The Night Vision buff made navigating easier, allowing Cade to spot traps long before they could be triggered. He stepped lightly over pressure plates and ducked under barely visible tripwires.

"I gotta admit," Cade said, grinning as he avoided yet another trap, "I'm kinda amazing at this. All me. No big deal."

Fang barked, giving him a look that screamed Really?

"Okay, fine, mostly me," Cade muttered.

Despite their faster progress, Cade felt a deep fatigue creeping in. His legs felt heavier, his breaths shorter. He stopped for a moment, placing his hand on the cold wall for support.

"Man," he sighed, "having you out here really drains me, Fang. Don't get me wrong, you're great and all, but… I've got to get stronger. For both of us." Fang barked softly, his tail wagging.

They pushed forward, coming to a wide, sealed door. Glowing runes adorned its surface, pulsing faintly. Cade tilted his head, studying the symbols. "A puzzle, huh? Alright, let's see what I've got."

He fiddled with the glowing symbols, twisting and aligning them as they hummed in response. The task felt oddly satisfying, and as the runes clicked into place, the door creaked open. Cade smirked, puffing out his chest. "Math genius right here. Who's laughing now, high school algebra teacher?"

Fang let out a small huff, unimpressed.

They continued deeper into the dungeon, but something felt off. Cade squinted, noticing familiar carvings on the walls. "Wait a minute," he muttered, stopping in his tracks. "Have we been here before? Don't tell me I'm walking in circles!"

Just then, a low, rumbling sound echoed through the halls. Cade spun around, dagger in hand. A figure emerged from the darkness, glowing with an intense, fiery aura.

Cade's heart pounded as he read the stats. "High danger? Really? Thanks, system. Super helpful."

The Warden didn't wait. It charged forward, its flaming sword slicing through the air. Cade barely managed to sidestep, the heat from the blade scorching his arm. "Okay, okay, no talking, got it!"

Fang lunged at the Warden, teeth bared, but the monster swung its sword, sending the demon dog flying into a wall. Cade clenched his fists, his mind racing. "Fang! Get up, boy!"

The Warden turned its fiery gaze on Cade, who raised his dagger defensively. "Alright, big guy," he said through gritted teeth. "Let's see what you've got."

The battle was brutal. Cade dodged and weaved, his dagger barely making dents in the Warden's armor. Fang attacked from the side, biting and clawing, but the Warden's strength was overwhelming. Cade's HP bar dropped rapidly, each blow sending him stumbling.

[WARNING! HP: 25/100]

"I'm not gonna make it like this," Cade muttered, wiping blood from his lip. He glanced at Fang, who was limping but still growling fiercely. "Alright, buddy, let's finish this together."

He studied the room, spotting a pile of broken rubble near the Warden's feet. An idea sparked in his mind.

"Fang," he whispered, crouching low, "get his attention. Lead him to that rubble."

Fang barked in acknowledgment, darting forward and snapping at the Warden's legs. The fiery creature roared, chasing after the demon dog. Cade sprinted to the rubble, positioning himself behind it.

"Now!" Cade shouted. Fang jumped aside just as the Warden stepped into the trap. Cade shoved a loose rock, sending the rubble collapsing onto the Warden's legs. The creature stumbled, momentarily stuck.

"Let's end this!" Cade yelled, leaping forward. Fang lunged alongside him, their attacks striking simultaneously. Cade drove his dagger into the Warden's chest as Fang clamped down on its neck. The Warden let out a final roar before crumbling into glowing embers.

Cade collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. His hands trembled as the system screen appeared.

Cade stared at all his glowing notification, his thoughts racing. The free attribute points felt like a gift after the brutal fight he had just survived.

"Alright," he muttered to himself, "time to bulk up a bit."

He opened the system interface and scrolled to his attributes:

[Attributes:]

• Strength: 5

• Agility: 5

• Endurance: 10

• Speed: 5

Without much hesitation, Cade dumped all ten points into Agility. "If I'm going to survive, I need to be faster than anything that comes my way," he reasoned.

The moment he confirmed his decision, a small surge of energy coursed through his body. He flexed his fingers, feeling quicker, lighter.

"Not bad. Not bad at all," he said with a grin.

Just then, the notification for his Beast Reanimation Skill flashed in front of him. Cade paused, his mind immediately going to the Blazing Warden's lifeless body.

"Wait… I can reanimate that thing?" His eyes widened. "Let's freaking go!"

The system chimed in, asking, "Are you sure you want to use Beast Reanimation on the Blazing Warden?

Cade didn't even hesitate. "Confirm!"

The air around him shifted. Dark energy swirled around the Blazing Warden's corpse, wrapping it in a sinister red glow. Cade watched, mouth slightly open, as the massive, fiery humanoid began to move. When it rose to its feet, the Warden knelt before him, flames still flickering off its body, but now tainted with a darker, more menacing hue.

Cade's grin stretched ear to ear. "I have my own fire monster now! This is insane!"

[System Notification:]

Reanimated Beasts will be stored in the Demonhold Realm until summoned.

The system followed up, "Would you like to dismiss the Warden to the Demonhold Realm until needed?"

"Uh, yeah. I don't think walking around with this guy would be subtle," Cade replied. The Warden's glowing form dissolved into a red mist before vanishing completely.

He turned to Fang, who wagged his tail excitedly. The system displayed Fang's updated stats—

Cade read through Fang's new details, his eyes lingering on the new Hellfire Aura skill.

"Man, you're a walking furnace now," Cade said, crouching down to inspect Fang.

Fang let out a low, rumbling growl that sounded more amused than menacing. He wagged his tail, the motion sweeping a small cloud of dust off the ground.

"You're looking fierce, buddy. Way better than before," Cade added, patting Fang's head. His hand brushed against the faint heat radiating from Fang's fur. "Alright, let's see if this glow-up is enough to carry us through the rest of this dungeon."

—-

Exhaustion finally began to creep in as Cade and Fang pressed on. Their steps echoed against the cold, stony floor of the dungeon. The air grew heavier, and a strange tension lingered as they moved deeper.

Suddenly, they stumbled into a massive chamber. The ceilings stretched far above them, and the darkness seemed endless.

A low growl echoed from the shadows, vibrating through the walls and Cade's chest.

[System Notification:]

["Warning: Final Boss Ahead."]

Cade swallowed hard, gripping his dagger tightly as Fang growled beside him. His exhaustion vanished, replaced by adrenaline.

"Well," Cade muttered, "time to get stronger."
