Chapter 31: You Are the True Heroes!
Seeing that the lead navy officer had been dealt with cleanly, Will paid no mind to the panicked navy soldiers around him. Instead, he turned his head, casting a glance at the distance between here and the shore. Murmuring to himself, he said:
"It's gotten a bit closer. If I don't handle this, someone might slip away."
With that, he turned back, his gaze sharpening abruptly. Two streaks of red light flashed in the depths of his eyes!
Hum—!
In an instant, an overwhelmingly majestic aura erupted from Will's body, spreading rapidly in all directions!
The entire warship, enveloped by this force, seemed as though it might shatter under the terrifying pressure at any moment.
Then—
Crack—!
The wooden planks across the ship suddenly splintered and burst apart, as if unable to withstand some immense strain, emitting a series of chilling, scalp-tingling sounds.
The expressions of every navy soldier on board tightened in an instant. Their pupils trembled wildly, their bodies frozen in place, completely unable to move.
It felt as though they'd been plunged into the heart of a horrifying storm!
Towering, surging waves seemed poised to swallow them whole at any second!
In the next moment—
Every navy soldier on the ship rolled their eyes back, foam spilling from their mouths as they lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
"Hm, that should do it."
Will gave a satisfied smile and ceased releasing his Conqueror's Haki.
Next, he extended his Observation Haki to sense his surroundings.
Confirming there were no signs of movement, he bent his knees slightly, then launched himself upward with a powerful leap. Moon Step: Rising Dragon!
The deck splintered beneath his feet as Will shot into the sky, reaching a height of over a hundred meters in the blink of an eye.
Looking down at the ship below, he gathered strength in his right leg and swung it fiercely, carving a massive arc through the air.
Tempest Kick: Sea Splitter!
A colossal, pale-blue slash rocketed downward, striking the center of the warship's deck with pinpoint precision.
BOOM—!
Even a reinforced navy warship couldn't withstand the might of this attack. It split in two instantly, accompanied by a thunderous explosion.
Will lingered in the air, treading it with ease.
Watching the wreckage of the warship gradually sink into the sea, the bubbles on the surface fading away, a flicker of satisfaction passed through his eyes.
These navy soldiers who'd come along were clearly cut from the same cloth as that rat of a Colonel Mouse.
There was no way he'd let such dangerous navy scum leave unscathed.
Seeing the warship fully submerged, Will didn't linger any longer. Turning around, he moved swiftly through the air using the same technique as before, soon returning to the shore.
"Will! Are you okay?!" Nami, Karina, and the others rushed over, their voices filled with concern.
"I'm fine. The annoying pests have all been taken care of," Will replied, slipping his hands back into his pockets with a faint smile.
Hearing this, the surrounding villagers erupted into cheers, crowding around Will with fervent praise.
"That was incredible! Lord Will!"
"That's how it should be! Those navy guys were obviously no good!"
"Yeah! Will, you're just too strong!"
"Amazing! Those awful days are finally over!"
"Exactly!"
"To see Lord Will sink a warship with my own eyes—I could die happy now!"
"Lord Will! You're the hero who saved us all!"
The villagers laughed and shouted, their voices brimming with unrestrained joy and excitement.
Truth be told, no one here was a fool—they'd just been enduring in silence all this time.
Arlong and his crew had lorded over this place for so long, yet the navy had turned a blind eye, doing absolutely nothing.
Even the dimmest among them could sense something was off.
That's why, earlier, when the navy had ordered them to leave, not a single person had budged.
Some had even quietly gripped their weapons tighter.
And when the warship was sunk, more than a few villagers on the shore couldn't help but cheer out loud.
Will had noticed all of this too.
Back when Colonel Mouse had tried to flee, and he'd been surrounded by navy soldiers, several brave villagers had seized the chance to sneak up behind the soldiers and knock them out with swift blows, trying to help him break free.
Even when he'd chased after Colonel Mouse, the villagers hadn't hesitated to finish off the fallen soldiers with follow-up strikes.
So, facing the cheers and praise of these simple, honest folk, Will couldn't help but laugh and shake his head. "I'm no hero," he said.
Then, he stretched out a hand, pointing to the crowd of villagers around him, and declared loudly:
"You—the ones who dared to stand up to the fishmen and the navy, who fought to protect your homes—you are the true heroes!"
The already earnest villagers could hardly handle such praise. Their cheers grew even louder, ringing through the air.
More than half of them started shouting about throwing a grand feast to celebrate, a way to thank Will for helping them break free from the fishmen's tyranny.
Even Ajian, the usually stern village guard, couldn't hold back a smile. Raising a hand, he called out:
"Alright! First, let's notify all the surrounding villages! Tell them exactly what happened here!"
"Then we'll throw a massive banquet together!"
"OHHH—!" The villagers roared in excitement, thrusting their weapons into the air.
Karina, Nami, and Nokigao exchanged glances, bright smiles breaking across their faces as they joined in, raising their hands and shouting along.
That very night, Cocoyashi Village sprang to life with a grand buffet-style feast.
The village was filled with the aroma of delicious food, free for anyone to enjoy.
Every self-proclaimed cook was busy in their homes, happily preparing dish after dish.
They'd carry their creations out and place them on tables for everyone to share.
Men and women danced joyfully at the central crossroad, wine glasses in hand, their movements alive with celebration.
Everyone reveled from the heart, honoring this hard-won day of freedom.
Will, Nami, Karina, and the others joined the festivities in the village.
"Mmm, this tastes great."
Will bit into a piece of marinated rib, his eyes lighting up as he mumbled a praise through a full mouth.
Then he spotted Nami and Karina emerging from a nearby house, each carrying a steaming dish. Swallowing his food in a few quick bites, he hurried over.
Approaching Nami, Will eyed the plate of orange-glazed duck breast in her hands. Leaning in, he took a deep whiff and sighed:
"Mmm, smells amazing."
Nami grinned smugly. "Of course it does—this is my specialty."
Karina, holding a bowl of golden fried rice, chuckled and teased, "Captain Will, are you saying Nami smells good, or just her cooking~?"
Will blinked, caught off guard. Then, under Nami's slightly flushed gaze, he leaned in again, sniffing carefully.
After a moment of serious consideration, he straightened up and said earnestly:
"Hm, both smell pretty great."
Nami and Karina burst into laughter at his deadpan delivery, exchanging amused glances.
