Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Vegapunk's Breakthrough

"Lightforged Beacon? Something this miraculous exists?"

Cobra's eyes widened in astonishment upon hearing about Wright's method of swiftly traveling to and from Fish-Man Island.

"This beacon... could it transport other materials?"

Clearly, Cobra immediately thought about potential threats to his kingdom. If the Lightforged Beacon could transport water...

"Unfortunately, not at this time," Wright said, shaking his head. Seeing Cobra's disappointment, he added, "However, Dr. Vegapunk, the Navy's foremost scientist, is currently conducting research in this area."

"I've spoken with Dr. Vegapunk about the future prospects of the Lightforged Beacon, and he's optimistic. I believe we'll have good news soon."

"Dr. Vegapunk... well, then there shouldn't be any problem," Cobra replied with a smile. "Still, Vice Admiral Wright, I would like to apply for a Lightforged Beacon for Alabasta."

This time, the discussions surrounding the Ryugu Kingdom prevented Cobra and Wapol from clashing over Revolutionary Army matters.

Thus, Vivi had not been "accidentally" harmed by one of Wapol's blunders.

Currently, the little princess was out exploring, cheerfully recounting to Captain Igaram how she would tell Pell and Chaka all about the World Summit upon her return.

Watching Vivi fondly, Cobra turned serious. "Vivi is very interested in your teachings. I hope you can visit Alabasta often."

"With a Lightforged Beacon, traveling would undoubtedly become much easier," Cobra added with a knowing smile.

He wasn't naive. A strategic teleportation device like this? It essentially meant that, given his good personal relationship with Wright, Alabasta would effectively have a top-tier Vice Admiral from Navy Headquarters on standby!

If Crocodile tried anything, Vice Admiral Wright could appear in mere moments to deal with him!

"..."

Wright hadn't anticipated Cobra being so straightforward in requesting a Lightforged Beacon. Such a bold demand would be nearly impossible for most nations.

His decisiveness rivaled that of Neptune. Clearly, Crocodile's threat weighed heavily on his mind.

"Alabasta is not like Fish-Man Island. I'll need to apply to Fleet Admiral Sengoku for approval," Wright replied, nodding. He didn't give an immediate answer—there was no urgency in Alabasta's case. Besides, waiting for Vegapunk's research results could prove doubly beneficial.

"Then I'll leave it in your capable hands, Vice Admiral Wright."

Marine Headquarters, Marineford – Sengoku's Office

"As expected of Vegapunk!"

Sengoku marveled at the classified report in his hands.

The report clearly stated:

Vice Admiral Wright's "Lightforged Beacon" has achieved the ability to teleport small objects.

The cost of teleportation: one Lightforged Crystal.

Teleportation of ordinary people is expected to be viable within a year.

Large-scale object teleportation will require several years of research.

"Small object teleportation... This already solves the issue of securely transporting classified intel and valuable resources. A major help indeed," Sengoku murmured as he picked up the transponder snail and dialed Wright's number.

"Buru-buru-buru... Click!"

"This is Wright."

"This is Sengoku. The Lightforged Beacon research has made progress. Once you've completed escorting the Alabasta royal family, come to my office."

"Oh? That's quite timely. King Cobra has just applied for a Lightforged Beacon installation."

"Cobra, huh... Report in detail when you return!"

"Understood. The escort is complete. I'll wrap up a few matters and head straight back to Headquarters."

After safely escorting the Alabasta royal family back, Wright originally planned to take a short break aboard the Lightbringer. However, Sengoku's good news changed his plans.

"I'll go on ahead. Stick to the return schedule," Wright instructed Smoker and Hina. In a flash of golden light, he vanished, leaving behind a ship full of envious sailors.

"When will we be able to go home as easily as Vice Admiral Wright?"

Wright didn't return to Marineford immediately. Instead, he appeared in the North Blue—at the Kingdom of Germa!

"Grand Lord!"

Wright materialized in his private chamber and summoned Judge. Moments later, Judge arrived to greet him.

"It's been a while," Wright said.

"Yes, Grand Lord. I didn't expect you to visit in person."

"This time, it's regarding a shift in our research direction," Wright explained.

"Please, give your orders!"

Pointing to the Lightforged Beacon in the room, Wright said, "Dr. Vegapunk is now leading the research on the beacon's applications—it's crucial for the Navy."

"That's true. Our progress on the beacon had stalled due to the complexity of spatial properties," Judge admitted with a sigh.

"That's fine. Vegapunk has already achieved results. You can redirect your focus elsewhere," Wright replied.

"I want you to concentrate on warship development. Specifically, the construction of my new Lightbringer, which has been delayed due to Seastone supply issues."

Judge's eyes lit up. "Grand Lord, Germa can confidently rival even the shipwrights of Water 7! You can leave it to us!"

"That's why I've come to you," Wright said. "Your knowledge of Holy Light techniques will allow you to modify the ship to better complement my abilities. Strengthen its structure, integrate larger Lightforged Crystals, and add a shield system. I can't have my warship breaking during a battle."

"Also, make sure the medical facilities are top-notch. Utilize all recent advancements in medical technology."

Judge saluted. "Understood, Grand Lord! We'll prepare the blueprints and await your inspection."

With that, Wright disappeared in another golden flash.

Back in Marineford, Wright lounged on Sengoku's office sofa.

"So, old man, you brought me back just to tell me the Lightforged Crystal production needs to increase?"

Sengoku chuckled. "Given your current strength, tasks like these shouldn't take much of your time."

"Oh, sure, because churning out a thousand crystals in an afternoon is no big deal," Wright grumbled, rolling his eyes.

"By the way, Sengoku, I have plans to modify my new warship. I'll bring the blueprints to you soon."

Sengoku narrowed his eyes. "And the Seastone issue?"

"Drake is already on it. I'll confirm with Rosinante and then..." Wright straightened up, draining his tea in one gulp. "I'll head to Wano Country myself!"
