Chapter 16: Ch.016 Brother, how much money did Nami take from you?
Mikita and Marianne, the recent additions, had not embraced becoming James's dedicated companions/concubines. They clearly weren't ready to give up yet.
Though Robin convinced them to accept their roles as concubines, the women were relieved at their freedom, so long as James stayed away from them.
[Lol, will he?]
Under James's steady hand, the Ark sliced through the calm air of the Calm Belt, finally arriving at the vibrant shores of East Blue.
Then the question came, how did Don Kreig, traversing the treacherous currents and unpredictable weather of the Grand Line, manage to return to the calm waters of the East Blue?
He was even pursued by Hawkeye Mihawk. This question has been on James' mind for quite some time.
All he could think of was how incredibly fortunate Kreig was to have escaped the Calm Belt and the monstrous sea kings, arriving safely in the East Blue.
[Reverse Mountain is an extremely tall mountain at one of the points where the four Blues meet and is one of the two known entrances to the Grand Line.]
Unbeknownst to James, the Marine had arrived in Arabasta to track him down immediately after his departure.
[Scene Break]
Location: Alubarna, The Royal Palace.
"Your Majesty Cobra, have you ever seen this man?" Vice Admiral Momonga of the Marine Headquarters pointed to a portrait and asked seriously.
"No!" Cobra spoke with absolute certainty.
A frown creased Momonga's face, making his little mustache quiver. "He uses the Thunder Devil Fruit. If I'm not wrong, he caused the nonstop rain in Arabasta."
"Oh~ That's it!" Cobra is a seasoned player; Momonga's authority doesn't faze him.
"I feel bad that I didn't meet him; I would have definitely rewarded him."
Vice Admiral Momonga was at a loss on how to deal with Cobra's stubbornness. Despite his extensive travels throughout Arabasta and use of Observation Haki, he couldn't locate James.
He suspects James and Hina are airborne, evading him, possibly in a flying machine.
The vast ocean offers no hiding place; the Marines' intelligence network would inevitably uncover any trace.
"His Majesty Cobra," the Momonga sighed, the weight of unspoken consequences heavy in the air, "if we were truly hunting him, a bounty would have been issued long ago."
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku has said that he wants that person to join the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He'll receive a beautiful woman as a reward if he agrees."
"Please give him this message if you see him. We'll personally visit him to sign the agreement if he accepts the warlord position."
Disappointed, Vice Admiral Momonga left the palace with the Marines.
They waited in Arabasta for a few days, hoping to hear from Cobra, but to no avail; they then pressed on with their search.
Naturally, King Nefertari Cobra feared navy surveillance and thus avoided contacting James.
Only after the marine's departure did he contact James, informing him of the World Government's invitation to become a member of the Seven Warlord of the Sea.
[Scene Break]
Location: East Blue, Conomi Islands.
James has received Cobra's message from his Den Den Mushi.
To Join the Seven Warlords of the Sea?
The right to plunder legally is of no use to James. He's determined to steal, in any case.
In the World Government, except for Admiral Kizaru, who can compete with him in speed and can catch up with him?
Abandoning his internal monologue, he continued his exploration of the island using Observation Haki. They had arrived in the sky near Cocoyasi Village.
With the resourceful Nico Robin along, they were unlikely to get lost.
James's first capture target in East Blue was Nami, the rightful first female protagonist of the Pirate World.
Conquering Nami was also simple. All it will take was saving her from Arlong's tyrannical reign, and this beauty would surely fall for him.
Nami evaded detection by his Observation Haki—how?
James felt a little lost. Nami seemed to be out to 'make money'.
He soon arrived at Nami's, landing his Nimbus Explorer in the open space beside her orange orchard.
"Fishmen control this area, but they're not particularly strong; I can handle them."
Having spoken with his concubines, he left in search of Nojiko, who was busy working in another orchard of orange trees.
Upon hearing that, the women remained aboard. The aroma of sawdust, paint, and freshly baked bread hung in the air as they each worked on their various hobbies.
[Scene Break]
'Ugh, Arlong is driving us crazy! When will things get easier?' Nojiko complained in her heart.
Despite a difficult past and unimaginable suffering, the brave and compassionate Nojiko devoted herself to caring for and supporting her sister Nami.
"Nojiko~"
"Hmm?"
Unconsciously, Nojiko turned her head, overwhelmed by an awe-inspiring aura she'd never encountered, its intensity forcing her eyes shut. His prominent appearance clearly indicated he was no ordinary individual.
"You... who are you?"
"I'm God James, and I'm here for you and Nami." James, as usual, was brutally honest.
"God? For me and Nami?"
Nojiko was momentarily stunned. Since she was always home, how could anyone have met her? Is it possible that Nami robbed the other party, causing him to come to her house?
"Where did Nami go? Where is she? I looked all over the Conomi Islands."
'Sure enough!'
Nojiko offered a wry smile. She knew this day would come. You're likely to wet your shoes if you often walk near the river. Nami's actions were questionable, and her hideout's discovery is just a matter of time.
"Big brother, Nami has gone out to 'work'. Can you tell me how much money she took from you? I will give it back to you."
"Return the money?" James smiled, figuring Nojiko got it wrong. "Very well then, I'll accept Nami and you as my consorts. Consider it compensation."
"Ah?"
Nojiko looked at him strangely, God? Consort?
Why does it seem like the other party is even wilder than Arlong, who believes he's from noble merman lineage and sees humans as inferior bloodline?
"Brother, stop joking..."
Years of intense fieldwork had tanned her skin, but a wry smile played on her lips as she recalled herself as a small child planting orange trees.
However, the well-dressed man before her appeared rich, perhaps even noble—why would he show interest in her and Nami?
"I'm serious." There was an undeniable confidence in James's tone. "I can help you kill all the fish-men here, if you agree."
Nojiko cried, "What?!" A quick scan revealed no one, so she breathed a sigh of relief and whispered to James, "Brother, keep your voice down. Let's talk about this somewhere more discreet, or someone might hear us."
James's cold stare made her realize, mid-sentence, that he wasn't kidding.
She regained her composure, picturing the faces of those oppressed by the fish-men, their suffering a sharp contrast to the warmth of Nami's smile and the memory of Bellmère's kind eyes.
A trace of determination flashed in her eyes, and she murmured, "Are you…really capable of killing Arlong and his fish-men?"
"It's easy to wipe them all out."
As James opened his right hand, a spark of lightning danced across his palm.
"This is...?" Nojiko stared at his hand, stepping back involuntarily in shock.
[That's all for now]
