Chapter 147: Omniscience in Marvel 143: Hidden Quirk of a God.
Title - Hidden Quirk of a God.
…
The sound of the vintage 1980 Cadillac Eldorado hummed low as it drove through the dark streets of New York. The city outside was alive with the it's nightly activities, but Fury's destination was far removed from the chaos of the city.
With each passing block, the buildings seemed to grow more sparse, and the streets quieter. Nicholas Fury's hands steered the wheel with practiced ease as he drove through the winding roads.
In the backseat, Lucas sat quietly, his expression neutral, gazing out of the window with a calm demeanor.
The streetlights outside occasionally flickered across his face, casting fleeting shadows that only added to the air of mystery that surrounded him.
The Cadillac finally slowed as they approached a gated entrance seating quietly between two towering buildings. The structure ahead of them stood out, a high-rise that seemed out of place in this hidden part of the city.
The car rolled up to the gate, where a pair of security guards stood rigidly by a small booth. As Fury approached, one of the guards stepped forward, a clipboard in hand. The guard, dressed in a standard uniform but with an air of military disposition, nodded at Fury, peering inside the car.
"Verification, please," the guard requested, his voice firm but respectful.
Fury reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small ID card. He handed it through the window without a word. The guard took it, his expression unreadable as he scanned it with a handheld device. A few seconds passed before a small beep indicated successful verification. The guard nodded and returned the card.
Then his eyes shifted toward the backseat where Lucas sat. A subtle change washed over the guard's face, one of recognition and immediate respect. His posture straightened as he gave a brief but respectful nod.
"Sir," the guard acknowledged Lucas, his tone respectful, almost reverent. He stepped aside and pressed a button, the heavy metal gate groaning as it slowly slid open.
Fury didn't say a word, but he noticed the shift in the guard's demeanor. Lucas, on the other hand, remained indifferent, his eyes still casually observing the world outside.
The Cadillac proceeded forward, and they passed through the gate, driving into an underground parking facility that was as discreet as the building's exterior.
Fury maneuvered the car through the garage, passing rows of expensive, blacked-out vehicles that looked as if they hadn't moved in days.
Each turn seemed to lead them deeper into the belly of the building until they arrived at a designated spot, tucked away in a far corner of the lot.
As Fury cut the engine, a heavy silence filled the car, broken only by the faint hum of the building's ventilation system. He allowed himself a moment to settle, his fingers drumming lightly on the steering wheel.
Just as he was about to step out, something caught his eye.
From the rearview mirror, Fury noticed Lucas narrowing his eyes, his gaze fixated on the ceiling of the car.
His expression had shifted—no longer calm, but sharply focused, as if he were sensing something just beyond the ceiling.
"Hmmm?" Lucas's low hum filled the quiet space, barely audible but enough to send a chill down Fury's spine.
"What is it?" Fury asked, his voice steady, though there was a slight edge to it. His eyes flicked back to the mirror, searching Lucas's face for any clues. "Is everything alright?"
Lucas didn't respond immediately. He held his gaze upward for a few more moments, his brows slightly furrowed in concentration.
The silence stretched, and Fury's grip tightened on the wheel, his mind racing with possibilities.
And then, just as suddenly as the moment had come, Lucas relaxed. His lips curled into a small, almost amused smile, and he let out a soft chuckle as he closed his eyes briefly, shaking his head as if dismissing whatever had concerned him.
"Everything's fine," Lucas said at last, his voice returning to its usual calm, almost teasing tone. "Just… a brief moment of courtesy with my favorite…student."
Fury didn't like that answer. Not one bit.
'What the fucking courtesy? And which fucking student!?' Fury thought but managed to keep his expression in check since Lucas's demeanor was impossible to read, and Fury knew better than to push.
And Fury was nothing if not a professional. He straightened in his seat, his expression hardening. "Right. Let's get inside."
Lucas nodded and reached for the door handle, pushing it open with a smooth push. Fury followed suit, stepping out into the garage.
…
At the same time Hala who was regaling to Peggy all about her exploits outside her known world suddenly froze in what Peggy immediately picked up as Shock. "...ck." she muttered silently to herself as her eyes began darting around.
"Hala?" Peggy immediately stood up from her chair upon seeing Hala's reaction. "Are you alright?" She asked and made her way to the frantic angel in human form.
"..s here." She muttered just before Peggy could grab her.
"What did you say?" Peggy asked and looked at the door for a few seconds but no one walked it. "Who's here?"
"He's here. That…ugh." Hala shivered in mild fright. "
"What are you talking about? Who's here?" Peggy asked with a frown, now getting annoyed.
"Lucas as you know him. He's here, and from the looks of things…" Hala paused and folded her face in a frown that nearly scared Peggy out of her wits.
"Well..? What? Out with it, don't just keep me hanging." Peggy said.
"..." Hala looked at Peggy for a good while before asking. "Seems like my lord decided to participate and…was beaten."
"Wha-What has this got to do with Luca-?" Peggy's word's caught on her throat as her eyes widened in shock and fright. "Then…you…but…what of the Earth?"
Feeling the rampant and chaotic mental and emotional state of Peggy Hala snapped her head to her and asked. "What's with you?"
"Huh?"
"Don't huh' me. What's with the panic?"
"Are you really asking me that? Wait, are you even an angel? What do you mean by that question? You just said your lord has been beaten, and you're here…aren't you supposed to…I dunno, be called to order or something? Like to fight against this threat?"
"You…" Hala narrowed her eyes at Peggy for a moment before shooting a glance at the snacks and drinks on her table. Seeing nothing suspicious, she returned her gaze to Peggy and asked. "Are you on something?"
"What..? You… are you trying to infuriate me right now?" Peggy asked before sighing out and calmly returning to her seat. "Forgive me. But can you explain in more detail?"
"You seem to have been experiencing these outbursts for sometime…when did it start?"
"It doesn't matter. Please explain yourself. You owe me that."
"Ugh, whatever." Hala rolled her eyes before continuing. "My Lord has this handicap he always gives to those he trains with back home. While suppressing himself to our level, as long as we manage to force him to do something he'd agreed not to, we win."
"Then-"
"That doesn't mean he's lost though. To him, that's just us proving he's going easy on us. At the end of the training, if you'll even call it that, he'll be standing tall with a victorious smirk with us groveling on the floor."
Peggy could almost feel the pain and resentment she'd accumulated from those experiences. "That's pretty shameful for…God."
"You tell him that." Hala said with a shrug. "He does indeed reward us afterwards while lecturing us on areas we could grow. So while he doesn't explicitly admit defeat, he's still loved."
"Is he a sore loser then?"
"Nah..not really. We angels don't see things the way you humans do. Despite how It may have been portrayed in your historical texts, Heaven is a realm filled with the best mercenaries this galaxy gave birth to. And what do this kind of people do these kind of people love to follow?-
"...The Strong."
"Exactly. My Lord is that strong. When he took over Heaven…it wasn't as beautiful as it is now…but It was magnificent. It spoke of nothing but power, but currently, he found a way to incorporate both power and…anyways, he's strong. Strong enough to deter Asgard, Heliopolis, Olympus and Hell with all its layers and dimensions."
"So he was beaten in a bet..? Since that's the case, why are you panicking?" Peggy then asked the question that had been plaguing her.
"It's just…he tends to act out in his own peculiar ways." Hala said and looked at Peggy pitifully for a moment.
"What was that?"
"What?"
"That look on your face..was that pity?" Peggy asked
"You're mistaken. What is there for me to pity in you? You saw wrongly." Hala waved her off and went and sat in an inconspicuous area in the office. She wasn't deliberately hiding since not reacting and blending into the environment was completely legal. She was staying out in the open afterall.
Peggy didn't really understand what was going on, but her years of experience on earth and in Yggdrasill helped her maintain her cool even in situations that seemed impossible for one to be cool in.
Her routine diagnosis helped her understand that she was suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder(OCD)...
…
(A/N-This is when individuals feel mentally overwhelmed by constant, intrusive thoughts or memories, which can create the sensation of processing more information than normal. Symptoms include Intrusive thoughts, repetitive behaviors, and a sense that their mind is constantly overloaded with information.)
…
…But she knew better.
After consulting with Lucas in the past, she understood that It was as a result of a circuit charge in her temporal lobe when the ten years worth of memories was forced into one year older brain.
Lucas mentioned that she just had to control her emotions and everything will be alright with time.
Now Peggy didn't know this but she was Leucadius' first successful experiment. Although it wasn't going I fail, there was no mention of it being a hundred percent successful.
Similarly, there was no way Leucadius would put Peggy's life at risk, so what he told her was the actual truth.
It had been sometime since then but that didn't stop the emotional outbursts every once in a while, and after years of experience, she coikd proudly say that she could take most bullshits with a calm face.
