Chapter 317 Reasoning
After returning to the bedroom, Lin Yi told Han Xuewei to wait for him here.
He needed to take the children to their room and then lull them to sleep before coming back.
This task was usually done by the mother, but the two had agreed to take turns, one day each.
It was impossible to always let one person do a job; they needed to take turns, and the children needed both their father's and mother's company.
"What story would you like to hear today? Shall Daddy tell you one?"
Lin Yi picked up a picture book from the side and chose a few.
He prepared to let the children choose one from among these books as their bedtime story for the night.
The children each picked one.
In the end, Lin Yi closed his eyes and used a random grabbing method to select the book for the evening.
After the children's countdown stopped, he ended up choosing the book picked by the second child.
"It looks like tonight we'll be reading this one. Nobody's unhappy, right? After all, we take turns with these things. Since we're reading the second child's choice tonight, that means the second child won't participate in choosing tomorrow—it'll be between the other two of you."
Lin Yi was worried that the children might be upset, so he came up with this idea, which never failed to work.
"Daddy, don't worry, we definitely won't get mad over something like this. Mommy and Daddy are still waiting for you, right? Let's hurry up with the bedtime story. We'll be good," they said.
The three children lay in their beds.
Since Xiao Bao was a girl, Lin Yi had deliberately moved her bed away from her brothers' beds.
The storytelling began, and Lin Yi, with much emotion and emphasis, narrated a tale similar to 'The Ugly Duckling.'
By the time he closed the book, he realized that the three children had already fallen asleep.
After turning off the light for them, Lin Yi returned to the bedroom he shared with his wife.
Once back in their bedroom, he discovered that Han Xuewei had already snuggled into bed.
Lin Yi tiptoed onto the bed and embraced Han Xuewei from behind.
Han Xuewei, sensing Lin Yi's return, immediately nestled into his embrace.
"Why did you come back so late? Aren't you usually quite quick? Did the children take longer to fall asleep tonight?" she murmured drowsily.
She was actually very sleepy, but had been holding out so she could go to sleep after Lin Yi came back.
"Today, while I was reading the story, I didn't notice the children had fallen asleep, so I finished the story before coming back. Are you very tired? Go to sleep now. Shall I hold you?"
Lin Yi's hand gently patted Han Xuewei's back, comforting her.
Soon, Han Xuewei drifted off to dreamland, and Lin Yi fell asleep with her.
The next morning, Lin Yi was awoken by a clattering noise coming from outside.
When he emerged from the room, he discovered that all the commotion was caused by Wang Sheng.
This guy, whether on a whim or because his brain had short-circuited, had decided to make them breakfast.
But since he hardly ever cooked, he had no clue how to go about it, thus the scene that morning.
The entire kitchen was nearly blown to bits by Wang Sheng's efforts, causing Lin Yi a headache, so he retreated back into his room.
Han Xuewei also woke up and came over to rub her eyes. She looked at Lin Yi with sleepy eyes and asked him what had happened.
"Nothing much, just that guy outside got some crazy idea to make us breakfast, but that guy has never set foot in the kitchen before. Alright, alright, you don't need to worry about it, if you're still sleepy just go back to sleep."
Today was Han Xuewei's last day off, and also Lin Yi's last day to complete his task.
Today, they definitely had to spend quality time at home with the kids.
With such a loud noise, Han Xuewei was no longer sleepy and got dressed and up.
It seemed like the cooking was still going to be left to her.
However, when Han Xuewei saw the disastrous state of the kitchen, she dismissed that thought.
They might as well order takeout and also find a cleaning service to tidy up the kitchen.
"Don't do such things in the future, okay?"
During breakfast, Lin Yi felt it was necessary to discuss the matter with Wang Sheng.
"I was just trying to be nice, I just messed up, that's all. I didn't do it on purpose."
Wang Sheng still had the look of someone who thought he was completely justified, as if he had done nothing wrong. Why couldn't he be criticized for it?
Lin Yi had to turn around his thinking on the matter.
"I know you didn't mean it, but a mistake is a mistake. I'm not asking you to restore the kitchen back to its original state, which is already quite generous of me. Don't push your luck. Using our kitchen without the owner's permission is illegal, do you understand?"
Lin Yi spoke to Wang Sheng in a very stern tone about the incident.
He wanted him to take this incident seriously and ensure it wouldn't happen again.
"Can you not make such a big deal out of this? I just wanted to make you breakfast as a way to thank you, but I didn't expect it to be so hard."
Wang Sheng felt that Lin Yi was making too much of the situation. He had only wanted to express his gratitude,
not commit something illegal, as Lin Yi was suggesting.
"Even if you wanted to thank us, you should have asked for our permission before doing any of it. You used our kitchen without asking and caused us significant damage. I could totally seek compensation from your family, you know?"
When he heard that Lin Yi wanted to contact his family, Wang Sheng suddenly panicked.
How could he contact his family?
That's absolutely unacceptable!
He was already in such a tense situation with his family. If Lin Yi contacted them, he couldn't imagine what kind of scene it would cause.
"Alright, alright, I know I was wrong. Punish me if you must, just stop nagging, but definitely do not inform my family. Lin Yi, you should know my situation. Why are you doing this? Are you deliberately trying to embarrass me?"
Lin Yi suddenly found himself at a loss for words. Why on earth did he take on such a disciple who simply couldn't understand what others were saying?
Han Xuewei saw that the two were about to start arguing and quickly stepped in to mediate.
"Your master didn't mean that. He just wanted you to understand that you should always get consent from others before doing something, especially since you were using our kitchen, not your family's. You need our permission to use it, understand?"
Han Xuewei spoke gently and softly to Wang Sheng.
Wang Sheng finally nodded stiffly.
"You stay in your room today. When you've thought things through, then you can come out. Wang Sheng, you should know that I let you stay by my side because I wanted to teach you something, not for you to keep acting the way you did before."
