Chapter 29: chapter 30

Chapter 30: The Unbreakable Truth

The road stretched ahead, winding through the thick forest, the only sound the soft crunch of boots on dirt. The encounter with the Whitecloaks had passed without incident, but the unease lingered. Moraine walked with measured steps, her mind clearly turning over what she had just witnessed. Lan moved beside her, ever watchful, while Eryndor trailed slightly behind, lost in thought.

He had not needed to fight. He had not needed to run. A mere thought had rewritten reality, rendering them invisible to the world.

How much more could he do?

He had only begun to understand himself. He knew he was beyond mortal. Beyond Aes Sedai. Beyond even the Forsaken and the Dark One himself. He was not bound by the Wheel, nor by the forces that ruled this world. But he did not yet know the true extent of his power.

And there was only one way to find out.

A distant howl split the night air. Not wolves—something bigger. Something unnatural.

Lan stopped first, his body going still. "That was no ordinary beast." His hand drifted to his sword.

Moraine's lips thinned. "Shadowspawn."

The ground trembled. A low, guttural growl reverberated through the trees, and then, in the darkness, golden eyes glowed.

Trollocs.

A dozen at first, stepping into the moonlight, their massive bodies bristling with muscle and steel. But behind them, more moved, the darkness shifting unnaturally. Too many.

Lan was already moving, sword flashing as he positioned himself in front of Moraine. "Run," he said, voice like steel.

Eryndor, however, did not move.

A memory surfaced—vague, distant. He had faced creatures like this before, in battles long forgotten, in places beyond this world. But this was different. He was not fighting as a god; he was fighting as… himself.

The lead Trolloc snarled and lunged.

Eryndor did not flinch.

A great axe swung toward him, its blade gleaming wickedly in the firelight. He did not move to dodge. Did not raise his hands. He simply… stood.

The blade struck.

And shattered.

The force of the blow should have torn through him, should have crushed bone and split flesh—but it did nothing. The axe broke apart on impact, shards of metal spraying outward, as though it had struck something far harder than steel. The Trolloc's eyes widened in shock, but before it could react, a tremor ran through its body.

Then it exploded.

Dark flesh and bone disintegrated into dust, swept away by an unseen force. The Trolloc was gone.

For a moment, there was silence. Then the others roared, charging at once.

Lan moved to intercept them, but Eryndor raised a hand. "No need."

He took a step forward.

The ground beneath his feet pulsed. The very air seemed to ripple. And as the Trollocs lunged, something unseen struck them.

One by one, they ceased to exist.

Not burned. Not torn apart. Not slain.

They simply vanished, as though they had never been.

Lan stood frozen, sword half-raised. Moraine's breath caught. Even the trees around them seemed to shudder, as if the land itself recognized that something far greater than an Aes Sedai had just exerted its will.

Eryndor lowered his hand. "They were never a threat," he said simply.

Moraine swallowed, her face pale. "You didn't use the One Power."

"No."

Lan sheathed his sword, his sharp gaze scanning Eryndor with a warrior's precision. He had seen powerful men before. Had fought beside the Dragon Reborn himself. But this… this was something else.

"What are you?" Lan asked.

Eryndor exhaled, his mind still grasping at the answer. "I don't fully know yet."

Moraine's hands curled at her sides. She was Aes Sedai, a woman who had seen the impossible more than once, but even she could not mask the tremor in her voice. "Then we must find out."

Eryndor met her gaze, and in that moment, a deeper truth settled within him.

He was not just strong. He was not just powerful.

He was invincible.

And he had barely begun to understand what that meant.
