Chapter 234: Chapter 234: A Bitter Bargain

"And you're still laughing?" Yako asked in disbelief as she looked at Funan. "We're talking about the Daimyo of the Land of Fire!"

"I know, so what?" Funan looked indifferent and smiled while looking at the information.

More than a report, it seemed like a disguised letter of supplication. The Daimyo could not bear it any longer and had sent a message begging for mercy.

The daimyo had ordered a total boycott of Konoha businesses throughout the Land of Fire, especially in the capital.

His intention was clear: to ruin Konoha's economy and thereby overthrow Funan. He hoped that in the midst of the chaos, he could reinstate someone more 'obedient' as Hokage, perhaps even Hiruzen.

As for the consequences of Konoha's defeat, it had little to do with him, the Daimyo.

Even if Konoha was destroyed, the Daimyo would still be the Daimyo.

And if the enemy reached the gates of the capital, he could always negotiate a truce, sacrificing a bit of territory to gain stability.

This action of the Daimyo really caused a lot of trouble for Funan.

Fortunately, Funan managed to end the conflict quickly. If the war had dragged on, like the previous great shinobi wars, Konoha would have collapsed from within.

In response to the boycott, Funan gave a clear order: strike back at the Daimyo.

The nobles, accustomed to centuries of inherited privileges, never imagined that the shinobi would dare to attack them directly.

The results were devastating. More than a dozen nobles were eliminated in the first round, plunging the Land of Fire into chaos.

Fear gripped the nobility. They had never considered that the shinobi, whom they always saw as tools to maintain their power, could turn against them.

The nobles demanded the Daimyo to take action against Konoha.

But what could they do? Send common soldiers against shinobi experts in assassination? That would be suicide.

Within days, dozens more nobles were killed. The terrified nobility put even more pressure on the Daimyo to take action against Konoha.

The daimyo was also very angry and terrified.

But when the Konoha shinobi managed to eliminate two members of the Twelve Guardian Ninja, the Daimyo was completely terrified, marking a turning point, so he decided to surrender.

"That's the daimyo!" Yako exclaimed.

Not even Yako could change her traditional thinking.

Uchiha Madara was so powerful but still accepted Konoha being under the Daimyo.

"What about the daimyo?" Funan sneered.

"Who is born noble? Even Senju Hashirama never said so. Is the Senju clan inherently superior? Who decides which bloodline is ordinary or extraordinary? Look at our Third Hokage, the honorable Sarutobi Hiruzen: he comes from a clan of ordinary shinobi, and yet he still managed to become Hokage, and has held the position the longest, to boot."

"What do you plan to do then?" Yako asked timidly.

Funan sneered and said: "Since he is so sincere, I don't want to force him to death at once."

"Wait a minute." Yako interjected, somewhat uneasy. "Does that mean you plan to keep pressuring him in the future…?"

"Of course I do, nyan!" Funan smiled and said: "Since the Daimyo wants to negotiate, then we agree. This matter is left to you. Remember, I not only want money, I also want land."

"Land?"

"Yes!" Funan looked at the map of Konoha and said: "Konoha has too little land. In the past two years, Konoha's population has increased rapidly, and all aspects have also developed rapidly. I need land."

His finger stopped on two cities near Konoha in the Land of Fire. "Hiuchi City and Honoka City, those two will be ours!"

"Those cities aren't called that…" Yako tried to object.

"From today, that's what those cities will be called." Funan interrupted her immediately.

Yako sighed, resigned. "Understood."

Without another word, Yako turned on her heels and walked away.

...

The days passed as the Daimyo's emissary remained trapped in Konoha, living in constant tension.

He did not fear for his own safety; from the moment he arrived, he was prepared not to return alive.

What really worried him was his lord, the great daimyo.

These rebels in Konoha, these damn shinobi, they actually dared to attack the great daimyo.

[Knock! Knock! Knock!]

A polite knock sounded at the door, but the emissary, panic-stricken, ran to open it.

He looked at the red-haired woman in front of him with fiery eyes, and said in a hurried tone: "Where is the Hokage? I... ahem, Hokage-sama, is he back?"

Yako looked at him coldly. After being brainwashed by Funan many times and hearing the rude words of the daimyo's envoy, Yako's expression became indifferent.

"Hokage-sama has returned, but he does not have time to see you. However, he has heard your request and has the following conditions."

The emissary, with a submissive attitude that contrasted with the usual arrogance of the nobles, replied: "Please tell me the conditions."

The two ANBU behind Yako looked at each other, surprised.

Whenever the Daimyo's emissary came to Konoha, his attitude was always haughty and contemptuous.

"First, we need money. Konoha has lost a large sum because of you, so you must reimburse that amount. This is the most logical thing to do, right?"

"Of course, of course!"

The Daimyo's emissary nodded quickly, but inside he was beginning to doubt.

Could it be that Konoha's economy is on the verge of collapse? If so, is there anything they can do about it? Could they perhaps contact the Iwa people and launch another attack on Konoha?

"Five hundred million ryo!"

"Oh... what?!"

The emissary, who had barely nodded, suddenly realized what he was hearing, and a cry of surprise escaped his lips. He almost fainted.

Yako remained calm and calmly replied: "We don't accept bargaining. If you don't give it, we will go and get it ourselves!"

"You, you..." The Daimyo's emissary stammered, his lips trembling.

"That's the first requirement. And now, the second."

Yako took out a map and spread it out in front of the emissary.

"These two cities will now be part of Konoha."

Yako pointed out the two large cities near Konoha on the map.

"Impossible, absolutely impossible!"

The Daimyo's emissary almost exploded with rage.

Yako maintained her serious and unperturbed expression. "We're not negotiating, we're informing. If you don't agree, then you don't agree. Oh, by the way, I heard there are only six of the Twelve Guardian Ninja left now. I'm curious how much longer they can hold out."

The Daimyo's emissary felt a chill run through his body.

"You better make a decision quickly!" Yako, with a calm expression, said: "The war is already over. Do you know how many Jonin Konoha can mobilize every day?"

"The reason we didn't eliminate certain people at once is because we didn't want to let the situation get to the extreme."

"If we wanted to, we could solve it all in one night."

What she had just said was, of course, an absurd excuse.

The real reason was that Funan didn't want to rush things too much.

Konoha is in the process of transformation; from being just a shinobi village, it wants to become a nation. If it makes a wrong move, it could end up harming itself.

First, they must take two cities, as a kind of experiment.

If it doesn't work, they'll look for another way.

In addition, there are still hidden dangers that have not been resolved, such as Obito, Uchiha Madara and Otsutsuki Kaguya.

And that's not even counting the Cursed of the Six Paths...

Following Funan's malicious guess, his brother, the white-eyed ancestor, might have been forced to leave. Otherwise, he would be crazy to go to the moon alone.

If Funan does not resolve these people, how will it maintain so much territory?

Now, taking two cities is mainly due to Konoha's rapid development.

Those two cities, with a little expansion on Konoha's part, could easily be connected to each other.

"I agree!" The Daimyo's envoy said these words with difficulty.

"Do you have the authority to decide such a thing?" Yako looked at the envoy without showing emotion, and added: "If not, I will send some shinobi to escort you to the Daimyo's residence."

"No need!" The daimyo envoy sighed. "When I left, the Daimyo had already given me full powers. In fact, in these days, I have received more news confirming my authority, so under any conditions you propose, I have the authority to accept."

Yako sneered inwardly.

...

The transfer of power went smoothly.

The envoy sent someone to the Daimyo's residence, and soon returned with a handwritten letter from the Daimyo.

The two cities, from that moment on, officially became part of Konoha.

As for money, the Daimyo could not hand over such a large sum at once, so he would do so in partial payments.

At Funan's suggestion, the Daimyo began taking what he lacked from other nobles.

Such a large amount of money could not be covered by him alone.

Under the temptation of money and the recent threats from Konoha, the Daimyo no longer cared about so many things.

The nobles did not beat around the bush either, several of them began to publicly oppose the Daimyo.

For nobles, having their money taken away is worse than being killed. What was a simple Daimyo worth when they could lose their money?

And so, the Land of Fire began to descend into chaos.

With that money, Konoha would not only be able to overcome the aftermath of the war but would also be able to carry out several of Funan's plans.
