Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Fire Vs Wind
Hiroshi groaned as he slowly pushed himself off the cracked bark of the tree, his body aching from the brutal impact. His breath came in ragged gasps, the lingering embers on his clothes flickering weakly before fading into the night.
He wiped the blood trailing from the corner of his mouth, his grip tightening on his sword. Even with the pain coursing through his body, his fiery eyes remained locked onto Mizuki's grotesque form.
"…Okay," Hiroshi muttered, his voice strained but unwavering. "I'll have to admit it… to have put out my flames like that… you're pretty strong…"
A twisted grin spread across Mizuki's face, his sharp fangs glinting in the moonlight. His serpentine tail swayed behind him, coiled like a whip ready to strike.
"Glad to hear that from you, Ashen Blade..." Mizuki hissed, his voice dripping with malice.
Without warning, his tail lashed out once more, cutting through the air with terrifying speed. But this time—
The very wind around it shifted.
The sheer velocity of his movement condensed the air, sharpening it into an invisible, deadly blade.
A Wind Blade.
A razor-thin crescent of compressed air surged forward, the edges shimmering with lethal precision.
And it was aimed directly at Hiroshi's throat.
Mizuki's eyes gleamed with savage delight.
"But that will be the last thing you'll ever say in this life!"
The Wind Blade howled through the battlefield, tearing through branches and leaves in its wake, closing in on Hiroshi at blistering speed.
Hiroshi's fingers clenched around the hilt of his sword, his grip tighter than ever before. His breath grew heavier, more intense, each exhale spewing embers that crackled in the night air. The flames that escaped his lips surged wildly, feeding off his unyielding will.
The Wind Blade raced toward him, its edges razor-sharp, a silent executioner moving with impossible speed.
Closer.
Closer.
The howling wind screamed in his ears, and just as it was about to slice through his throat—
Fwoosh!
Hiroshi's sword ignited in an infernal blaze, crimson flames engulfing the blade in a swirling storm of heat. His eyes burned with unwavering determination as he raised his weapon high, the sheer intensity of his flames distorting the very air around him.
And then—
With a roar that shook the battlefield—
"Fire Release: Hell's Descent!"
The ground trembled beneath his feet as he brought his sword crashing down with all his might.
A violent explosion of heat erupted from the impact, the sheer force sending embers scattering in every direction. The crimson fire surged forward, a roaring inferno of destruction clashing against the incoming Wind Blade.
Mizuki watched the scene unfold with a twisted grin, his reptilian eyes gleaming with amusement.
"Hahaha!" He let out a guttural laugh, his voice dripping with arrogance. "You still don't get it? Wind is absolute! It will always devour fire—no matter how fierce your flames burn, no matter how powerful your sword swings!"
His voice grew louder, mocking, almost pitying.
"It is the natural law of the world! A fundamental truth! Your resistance is meaningless!"
But—
Mizuki's laughter died in his throat.
His confident smirk faltered.
The Wind Blade had been slashed apart.
It hadn't been extinguished by Hiroshi's fire.
No—it had been cut down by his sword alone.
Mizuki's eyes widened. "What…?"
Hiroshi, his breath still ablaze with flame, slowly straightened. His eyes locked onto Mizuki with unshakable resolve.
"You say it's meaningless?" His voice was steady, unwavering. He lifted his sword, now once again shrouded in fire.
The flames around him intensified, roaring to life once more.
"Nothing is meaningless in this world!"
And then—
Boom!
Hiroshi surged forward, his speed breaking past his limits. The air around him cracked from the sheer force of his movement.
Flames spewed from his mouth, swirling around his blade like a dragon ready to strike.
And in the blink of an eye—
He was upon Mizuki.
His sword swung to the left, his body twisting in perfect sync. The roaring flames followed, spiraling around him in a blazing vortex as he spun with terrifying speed.
"Fire Release: Demon's Wrath!"
Fwoooosh!
A massive tornado of flames erupted, its scorching heat swallowing Mizuki whole. The inferno roared, its crimson and gold hues painting the battlefield in a nightmarish glow. The very air wavered under the sheer intensity of the firestorm.
Inside the raging cyclone of fire, Mizuki's eyes widened in sheer panic.
"What the fuck is this now?!" he bellowed, his voice nearly drowned out by the howling blaze around him.
He could feel the flames licking at his flesh, creeping closer, ready to devour him completely. Shit!
No hesitation.
His hands blurred into a desperate sequence of seals, his mind racing to form a countermeasure.
But—
Slash!
A white-hot pain tore through his right arm.
"Aghh!" Mizuki let out a choked scream as one of the relentless sword slashes from within the flaming maelstrom severed his hand clean off.
The dismembered limb barely had time to fall before Hiroshi's "special burn contact technique" took effect.
Fwoosh!
The severed hand ignited instantly, flames ravenously consuming it before it could even hit the ground. The fire started devouring the remaining stump, searing through his flesh with agonizing speed.
"Tch!" Mizuki hissed in frustration, his face contorted in rage.
Without hesitation—
Slash!
He hacked off his own burning stump. Blood splattered across the flames, evaporating in an instant.
And then—
Squirm… Snap! Crack!
His flesh wriggled, his bones snapping back into place at unnatural speeds.
In a matter of instants—
His hand regrew once again.
...
Outside the raging inferno, Shin and Naruto stood frozen, their eyes locked onto the colossal tornado of fire that roared in the distance. The sheer magnitude of Hiroshi's power was overwhelming—its heat licking at their skin even from afar.
Naruto's eyes sparkled with admiration and disbelief. "Shin..." he breathed, barely able to tear his gaze away from the flaming vortex. "Your father is so strong! Why didn't you ever tell me?!"
Shin, his brows furrowed in both concern and awe, hesitated before replying. "Well—"
But Naruto wasn't done. His excitement was bubbling over, cutting off Shin before he could even finish.
"And why don't you ever use a sword?!" Naruto pressed, his voice rising with exhilaration. "Your father should've taught you how to wield one for sure!"
Shin's grip tightened, his eyes never leaving the swirling inferno. His father was powerful—undeniably so—but in this world, there is always someone stronger.
"I've never been too talented at Kenjutsu," Shin admitted, his voice quieter now, his expression unreadable. "At least not in comparison to him. So he told me that I should find my own path."
Naruto blinked at him, still brimming with excitement, but Shin's gaze remained firm. Even with this incredible display, even knowing his father's strength, his heart twisted with unease.
Because deep inside that fiery tornado—
The battle was far from over.
Suddenly—
A furious, monstrous roar shook the very air.
"SINCE YOU WON'T LET ME USE NINJUTSU WITH HAND SIGNS..."
Mizuki's voice erupted from within the inferno, twisted and distorted by both his monstrous transformation and the flames surrounding him. His rage was palpable.
"THEN I'LL JUST USE IT WITHOUT THEM!"
Shin's heart lurched.
Naruto's excitement faltered for the first time, a sliver of unease creeping into his voice. "Wait... what?"
Inside the blazing storm, Mizuki's serpentine form suddenly coiled.
Then—
He spun.
But unlike Hiroshi, Mizuki had no blade.
He became the blade.
His monstrous tail, reinforced with unnatural strength, cut through the air with terrifying velocity. The winds shifted violently, twisting and condensing around him.
In mere moments—
A wind tornado erupted around his body, spiraling upward like a spectral cyclone. The sheer force sent trees splintering in the distance, leaves and debris ripping into the sky.
Mizuki's laughter echoed through the chaos.
"LIKE IT, ASHEN BLADE?" he bellowed, his voice vibrating through the battlefield. "NOW—LET'S SEE IF YOUR FIRE IS STRONGER THAN WIND!"
And then—
The two tornadoes collided.
Boom!
A shockwave tore through the forest.
The clash of fire and wind was so intense that the very earth trembled. The night sky above distorted, the swirling forces of nature battling for dominance.
Naruto instinctively raised his arms to shield himself from the raw power of the collision. "Holy crap!" he gasped, barely able to stay on his feet.
Shin's fists clenched. His father's flames—could they really withstand this?
As the inferno raged against the howling winds—
The battlefield itself threatened to be torn apart.
To be continued...

How was this chapter? Liked it?
Also, I promise that the battle will be over shortly and that Shin will be assigned into a ninja team in the next five-six chapters. Try to guess who the members of his team will be, they've all at least been mentioned once.
