Chapter 1: 1. Witnesses
"It appears again, this unlucky thing."
"Hehe, even though he has Uchiha blood, he's not a lost dog!"
"Shh, do you want to lose your life? If they hear you, you might be thrown in jail."
"The descendants of defected shinobi will surely remain insignificant in the future. Hokage-sama is still too kind to take this guy in."
...
Sora lowered his head slightly and walked through the streets of Konoha with a gloomy expression.
It had been nine years since Sora came to this world and five years since he arrived in Konoha.
In these nine years, Sora went from initial excitement to bitter resentment.
Just as the villagers who sneered at him said, the blood of the Uchiha clan flowed in Sora's body.
But Sora was not recognized by the Uchiha clan.
In order to protect the purity of their bloodline, the Uchiha clan strictly practised intermarriage within the clan.
But Sora's parents did not follow this tradition.
Sora's mother was from the Uchiha clan, and his father was a member of the Senju clan.
If Sora's father had been an ordinary person, Sora's life might not have been so miserable if the Uchiha clan might have acknowledged him.
But Sora's father was from the Senju clan, the Uchiha clan's mortal enemies.
When Sora's mother became pregnant, the Uchiha clan's leader and elders discovered it and immediately confined her, demanding that she abort the child.
Upon learning this, Sora's father infiltrated the Uchiha clan's territory, rescued her, and fled Konoha.
Of course, the Uchiha clan could not tolerate the blood of the Uchiha flowing outside the clan, so they reported it to the Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen.
Sarutobi Hiruzen declared Sora's parents traitors and sent the Anbu to hunt them down.
Sora's parents narrowly escaped and went into hiding in a remote village without shinobi. After Sora was born, they lived happily together for four years.
Those four years were the happiest of Sora's life.
But disaster struck unexpectedly.
A group of powerful beasts attacked the village, and without shinobi, no one could defend against them.
Sora's mother was forced to use the Sharingan, and together with Sora's father, fought off the beasts.
However, this act drew unwanted attention.
Like hyenas scenting prey, rogue shinobi descended upon the village, seeking Sora's mother for her Sharingan.
In the ensuing battle, Sora's father sacrificed himself to protect Sora and his mother.
Gravely injured, Sora's mother managed to send Sora to Konoha, begging them to take him in.
Sarutobi Hiruzen agreed to her request.
Although Sora's parents had been declared traitors, they had not harmed Konoha.
Moreover, Sora possessed the blood of both the Uchiha and Senju clans. If he awakened his inherited bloodline abilities, it would be dangerous for him to live outside Konoha.
Thus, Sora remained in Konoha.
Sarutobi Hiruzen sent people to take Sora to the Uchiha clan and asked if they were willing to take him in and recognize his identity as a Uchiha.
However, the Uchiha clan refused to acknowledge Sora's identity as one of their own.
After that, Konoha arranged a dilapidated house for Sora, and no one cared for him further.
Sora didn't mind this much.
He clearly understood the deep-seated conflict between the Uchiha and Senju clans. With Senju's blood in his veins, it was natural for the Uchiha clan not to accept him.
But at that time, Sora, unaware that his parents had been labelled as Konoha's rogue shinobi, believed that everything would improve once he arrived in Konoha.
Naively, Sora thought that as long as he stayed away from issues involving Jinchūriki, the people of Konoha would be kind and welcoming.
That hope was quickly shattered.
Nearly all the villagers despised him.
Eventually, Sora realized why he was hated.
The first reason was that his parents had been labelled as rogue shinobi.
The second reason stemmed from the Uchiha clan—more specifically, the Konoha police force they controlled.
At this time, the Uchiha clan's reputation and power in Konoha had peaked due to their control of the police force.
The Konoha police force's primary responsibility was maintaining security and stability within the village, establishing regulations, upholding order, and apprehending individuals with criminal tendencies.
The Uchiha clan, filled with arrogance, would often arrest anyone for even the smallest offences or suspicions of wrongdoing.
This made the villagers harbour intense hostility toward the Uchiha clan.
However, the Uchiha clan was the largest ninja clan in Konoha, and no one dared to confront them directly.
Instead, this resentment was redirected toward Sora, a child with half Uchiha blood and no surname.
But Sora was not like Naruto—he lacked Naruto's unyielding kindness.
After enduring such an environment for five years, even the most optimistic person would have a broken spirit.
Sora couldn't comprehend how Naruto, who had grown up in such conditions, managed to choose forgiveness.
Even Sarutobi Hiruzen, who was once thought of as kind and tolerant, proved indifferent in Sora's eyes.
On more than one occasion, Sarutobi Hiruzen witnessed villagers bullying Sora, but he merely glanced at the scene and walked away as if nothing had happened.
Over time, Sora became certain that Sarutobi Hiruzen's kind demeanour was nothing but a façade.
Now, Konoha felt like a prison to Sora.
Yet, he couldn't leave this prison.
Konoha would never allow him to leave, and even if he did, Sora lacked the power to protect himself.
Despite his disdain for Konoha, he had to admit it was the safest place for him at the moment.
However, Sora was confident that he could change his situation in the future.
This confidence did not come from his Uchiha or Senju bloodlines.
Sora knew that with only half of each bloodline, he might never awaken the Sharingan or the Wood Release bloodline limit in his lifetime.
Instead, his confidence stemmed from a system called "Witness."
The system granted witness points for observing significant events.
Sora needed 100 witness points to activate the system.
Over the past five years, he had only accumulated 50 points.
This was thanks to his enrollment in the Ninja Academy three years ago, where he witnessed Namikaze Minato's enrollment, earning 50 witness points.
However, Sora had no way of obtaining the remaining 50 points.
His awkward status in Konoha left him unable to access other significant events.
Furthermore, it was a time of peace, far removed from the Third Shinobi World War, leaving Sora with few opportunities to witness events that could earn him points.
Now, however, an opportunity lay before him: Uzumaki Kushina's imminent arrival in Konoha and her transfer to the Ninja Academy.
If Sora could witness Uzumaki Kushina's enrollment, he might gain the remaining 50 points and finally activate the Witness system.
