Naruto: Maelstrom Of The Uzumaki

Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Petting the Dog's Head!

The return of Raiden Uzumaki was like a stone cast into a still pond, creating ripples in the previously tranquil Konoha Village.

Under the quiet night sky, an undercurrent surged through the village. Ninjas moved swiftly, delivering news to various factions. Hiruzen Sarutobi sat in his office, gazing out the window. His thoughts churned, though he kept them to himself.

Meanwhile, Danzo Shimura was quick to make plans regarding Raiden Uzumaki. The strategic value of a Jinchuriki who appeared to have mastered Sage techniques far surpassed their expectations.

The Next Morning

Early the next morning, Raiden Uzumaki stepped out of his modest yard and strolled through the village. It was his second day back in Konoha, and propriety dictated he meet with the Third Hokage. Although he didn't hold much affection for his mentor, Sarutobi Hiruzen, Raiden still respected tradition.

To show respect, he didn't come empty-handed. Despite knowing that the Hokage lacked nothing, Raiden bought fresh fruit from a street vendor, carrying the bundle as he headed to the Hokage's office.

When he arrived, it was just after 7 a.m.—the busiest time for the Hokage, who had to process overnight reports and assign missions. That day, the Third Hokage had an important matter to address.

"Hatake Kakashi, congratulations. Starting today, you are officially a ninja," Sarutobi said, crouching down to pat a child on the shoulder. "Train hard and make a contribution to the village."

As Raiden pushed open the door, he caught this scene: the Hokage encouraging a young boy. The child stood with his back to Raiden, a short blade strapped across his back, his slim figure outlined by his tight training attire.

"Yo, teacher! Busy, are we?" Raiden teased as he entered. His gaze shifted to the white-haired child. Hatake Kakashi—one of the key figures of the future world.

Raiden's voice drew their attention. Kakashi turned to see the man who had entered the room. The boy's first thought was how impossibly handsome Raiden was—more striking than anyone Kakashi had ever seen.

Sarutobi greeted Raiden with a warm smile. "You've finally returned, you rascal. How many years has it been since you last visited? Have you forgotten me?"

Raiden chuckled, placing the fruit on the Hokage's desk. "I'm here now, aren't I? Consider this an apology for my absence."

His eyes flicked back to Kakashi. Feigning surprise, he asked, "Who's this little guy? Graduated already?"

Sarutobi smiled proudly. "This is Hatake Kakashi, a prodigy just like you. He's the son of Hatake Sakumo and graduated from the Academy at only five years old."

"Impressive," Raiden replied, crouching slightly to study Kakashi. "A genius, huh?" He ruffled the boy's spiky hair, smirking. "Not bad. Feels like petting a Samoyed."

Kakashi slapped Raiden's hand away, clearly annoyed. "I'm not a pet."

Raiden feigned shock. "How'd you know I was thinking that? I didn't even say it!" he teased, causing Kakashi to glare at him indignantly.

Sarutobi chuckled, breaking the moment. "Enough teasing. Sit down and let's talk."

A Conversation with the Third Hokage

The Hokage reminisced about Raiden's younger days, recalling the boy he had once mentored. "You've grown so much. How about taking the Chunin Exams? I can recommend you."

Raiden shook his head. "Not interested. I prefer freedom."

Sarutobi pondered this, then suggested, "Then be my guard. You've been gone for so long, and I haven't fulfilled my duties as your teacher."

Again, Raiden declined. "Thanks, but no thanks. How about making me this kid's sensei instead?" He gestured to Kakashi. "He's just graduated, right? I've got experience guiding talent like him."

Sarutobi considered the suggestion. "That might work. Teaching a genius like Kakashi requires someone who can understand him, and you two share an affinity for Lightning Release techniques."

Kakashi, however, was skeptical. "Hokage-sama, I can't accept this. I don't think someone unproven should be my guide."

Sarutobi smiled at the boy's boldness. "Don't worry, Kakashi. Raiden is more than capable."

Kakashi still appeared unconvinced but said nothing further. Raiden squatted to Kakashi's level, extending a hand. "Nice to meet you, kid. I'm Raiden Uzumaki, your guide. Let's head to the training grounds—I'll teach you a thing or two."

Training the Prodigy

Raiden later found Kakashi diligently practicing at the training grounds, his shuriken skills sharp and precise.

"Not bad," Raiden commented, clapping. "You're already halfway to my level back in the day."

Kakashi scowled but said nothing, launching shurikens at Raiden without warning. Raiden caught them effortlessly, smirking. "Testing me already, huh? You'll need to do better than that."

Kakashi bowed reluctantly. "Sensei Raiden, nice to meet you."

Raiden grinned. "You've got spirit, kid. Let's get to work."
