Chapter 214: Chapter 212: Training (Part 2)
Chapter 212: Training (Part 2)
Time passed, and soon it was mid-afternoon.
After several rounds of evolution, Baishi finally emerged from the lava river.
Soaking in a hot spring for a while to relax, he then returned to his training chamber.
Opening his status panel, he took a quick glance.
As expected, the progress bar for Absolute Adaptation had surged significantly, jumping from I (0.1%) to I (3.5%) in a single session.
At this rate, it would take about a month for the skill to reach Level II, an impressive pace.
"Not bad!"
Satisfied, Baishi closed the panel and immediately began extracting tailed beast chakra to replenish his own reserves.
Once full, he entered his space ring, absorbed enough natural energy, and converted all his chakra into Senjutsu Chakra.
He then accessed his system, converting that energy into Evolutionary Source, and proceeded to enhance several abilities—Super Vision (X-Ray), Energy Absorption, Mind's Eye, Mental Barrier, and Iron Body.
Time passed steadily as he cycled through his training.
By nightfall, Baishi stretched lazily, glanced at his status panel, and nodded in approval. "Good progress."
Summoning Summer, he enjoyed the meal she had prepared, then immediately returned to his other tasks.
From studying sealing techniques and curse marks to refining the potential of Wood Release, Dust Release, and Ice Release, Baishi tirelessly worked on developing new jutsu.
He also researched ways to safely and effectively unlock chakra nodes, among various other projects.
His days were packed with endless research and training.
Though repetitive, he found immense satisfaction in the process.
Days turned into weeks, and before he knew it, half a month had passed.
That afternoon, just as Baishi emerged from the lava river, he received unsettling news.
"My lord!"
"What is it?"
"Flying Fox just sent word—Sunagakure's One-Tail Jinchūriki has been kidnapped."
Baishi's eyes sharpened as he turned to Firefly. "When did this happen? And do we know who did it?"
Although he already had a suspicion, he asked for confirmation.
"It happened yesterday, and word has spread throughout the ninja world," Firefly replied succinctly. "Based on the latest intelligence, the culprit was Onoki's grandson—Deidara. He wasn't alone; he was accompanied by a highly skilled puppet master, but their identity remains unknown."
"As expected."
"They claim to not know his identity?"
"Heh…"
Baishi chuckled lightly. "More likely, Sunagakure is too embarrassed to admit it."
"My lord?"
Firefly looked puzzled.
Baishi casually explained, "That 'unknown puppet master' is none other than Sunagakure's genius—Sasori."
If Sunagakure had identified him as an expert in puppetry, that meant they had engaged him in battle.
In that case, there was no way they hadn't recognized him.
For them to claim ignorance meant only one thing—they were deliberately hiding the truth.
Firefly was visibly shocked.
As a former prodigy of Hoshigakure, he had paid close attention to the young talents from the Five Great Villages, especially those of his own generation.
Back then, Sasori was a well-known genius.
But he had mysteriously vanished.
And now, Baishi was telling him that the puppet master who attacked Sunagakure was Sasori.
"Indeed, it's him," Baishi confirmed, nodding.
He then pondered the real reason behind Sunagakure's cover-up.
Are they hiding their disgrace?
Possibly.
But Baishi suspected there was a more strategic reason.
Sunagakure might be using this incident to pressure Iwagakure and extract some benefits.
After all, Deidara's identity was irrefutable.
Onoki wouldn't be able to deny it.
However, if they admitted Sasori was involved, it would complicate their narrative.
Thus, suppressing his identity made perfect sense.
"But why are Sasori and Deidara already targeting the One-Tail?"
"Isn't it too soon?"
"Aren't they worried about drawing too much attention?"
"Wait a minute!"
A realization struck Baishi.
The major villages were already on high alert.
After all, he had just kidnapped the Four-Tails and Seven-Tails.
It was impossible for them to remain indifferent.
That meant Akatsuki no longer had any reason to hold back.
"So this is my fault, huh?"
With that thought, Baishi instructed, "Monitor the situation closely and report any updates immediately."
"Understood, my lord!"
Firefly acknowledged the order and swiftly departed.
Baishi stood in thought for a moment, then decided the situation didn't currently affect him.
He dismissed the matter and resumed his work.
Regardless of Nagato's schemes, as long as Baishi's strength remained superior, nothing else mattered.
Moreover, he was well aware of Akatsuki's ultimate goal.
As long as he retained the Four-Tails, Five-Tails, Seven-Tails, and Nine-Tails, the grand plan couldn't proceed.
That meant he had nothing to worry about.
There was no need for unnecessary concern.
However, Baishi had underestimated Nagato's determination.
Only a week later, shocking news shook the ninja world.
Kumogakure's Two-Tails Jinchūriki had been kidnapped as well.
Even worse, the Eight-Tails Jinchūriki barely escaped, surviving only by using the "tail-severance" escape technique.
If not for that, Killer Bee would have been captured too.
Reports claimed that the Fourth Raikage was now furious beyond reason, vowing revenge against Akatsuki.
At this point, it was clear to everyone—Akatsuki was behind the tailed beast abductions.
The entire ninja world now knew their identity as the infamous mercenary group.
Moreover, their operatives had been exposed.
Investigations had confirmed the identities of the four primary attackers:
Sasori – Sunagakure's former prodigy.
Deidara – Onoki's grandson.
Hidan – A fanatical worshiper of Jashin.
Kakuzu – A former rogue shinobi obsessed with wealth.
Sunagakure's earlier attempts to conceal Sasori's identity had failed.
Once the Two-Tails and Eight-Tails were attacked, keeping secrets became impossible.
Now, all four attackers were fully exposed.
Baishi could already envision what awaited them—a relentless hunt by the major villages.
"As expected, I really can't underestimate the intelligence networks and response times of the Five Great Villages."
Upon hearing the news, Baishi couldn't help but sigh in admiration.
"But should I intervene?"
If Akatsuki succeeded in capturing the remaining tailed beasts, acquiring them later would be far more difficult.
Additionally, Nagato's plan required all the tailed beasts.
That meant they would inevitably come after him.
Unless, of course, he handed over his tailed beasts willingly.
Which was never going to happen.
In other words, conflict was inevitable.
"So… should I make the first move?"
Just as Baishi contemplated attacking Nagato first, another problem came knocking at his door.
