------------------

When I awoke, I was greeted by a beautiful sunrise. I watched as the sun peeked its head above the horizon, painting the sky a beautiful orange, the light then reflecting upon the clouds, creating a stunning contrast.

As I appreciated the scenery, I heard some talking. It was my teammates, wondering when I would wake up. I decided to honour them with my full presence. I Projected from my current position, tied with ropes to Baki's back, and started running with them. I yawned, before I asked;

"Why did you guys not wake me up?" A grin started spreading on my face, as I saw Karin's fist tremble, as she grumbled under her breath. Unfortunately, before I could annoy her further, Baki intervened.

"Your servant brought to the meeting spot, together with all needed supplies. We asked her why she didn't wake you up, and she told us that she threw you out the window, after trying the 'conventional methods', like waterboarding you. We originally tied you by your foot, and dragged you along. You slept through that. So we were left with no choice." said Baki, with an exhausted sigh.

"I faintly remember having trouble breathing at some point... But that's not important. Where are we?" I promptly made a 'shush' gesture to Karin, who wanted to say something, and waited for Baki to answer.

"We are on our way towards Konohgakure... We should be halfway through the journey by now, you slept for almost a full day." Baki said, tiredly.

"Yeah, well... I was blessing the plebs with my presence, and I got a little too into horse racing." My wallet was still noticeably emptier than before the bets. "So I went on a few quick missions to make up for my mercy, I didn't want the business to close down, so I made some donations."

"You mean Hōtai forced you to pay when you lost? The servant girl told us that your funds were low because of it." Karin grumbled.

"How was I supposed to know that he owned most of the gambling dens in Kusa? I just wanted to go home and get more money to pay for it..." I would have been gone like the wind had he not talked to me. I WILL win my money back. Either after I return or later. My Billy will win one of those races, it doesn't matter that he is dying of old age, he WILL win one of these. I will make sure of it.

I was broken out of my thoughts by a round-house kick rapidly approaching my face. I dodged under it, much to the surprise of my teammates.

"How come you didn't use Projection?" Baki asked, his hand moving towards his weapon pouch.

"Why would I waste my energy on someone as insignificant as Karin? Stop kidding yourself." I said, my face bearing my signature grin, my hands thrown behind my back, and my eyes closed, as I enjoyed the breeze. I jumped, a leg sweep narrowly missing my ankles, I briefly opened one eye to look at Karin, before speaking. "Baki, we should turn back now, with her on our team, we will be disqualified on the spot."

Karin turned a shade of red darker than her hair, and for a moment, I thought her head might explode, unfortunately, miracles don't happen to good people like me, so, I was forced to tolerate her existence for another howevermuchlonger she was useful to Kusa. Truly, the world is a cruel place.

I was broken out of my thoughts by a big surprise. Karin took a big breath of air, and calmed down. I started clapping, drawing my two teammates attention.

"Congratulations Karin, didn't think women were capable of managing their anger!" I continued to sing such high praises, only to be broken out of my train of thought by someone grabbing me by the robe.

I turned my head to look at who touched me, only to be met with the bandaged figure of my sensei. I got out of his grip, before waving my hand at him. We were two feet away from each other. He waved back.

"Where have you been?" I asked, still waving my hand.

"Took a piss." He responded, before putting his hand down.

I continued to wave at him all throughout our journey.

------------------------------

We soon reached Konoha. Surprisingly enough, we got through the gate quite quickly. Though I guess it isn't that surprising considering many foreign shinobi were traveling to the Land of Fire for the Chunin Exams.

Just on our way here we saw many a foreign shinobi. I quickly separated from my team, after we had left our luggage in the inn we rented. The reason for my departure was simple. My arm hurt from waving at Deiki for the whole journey. Also, because I wanted to scout the competition.

I moved in stealth... Well as much stealth as one can get without making any of the patrolling shinobi suspicious. Alright, fine. I was strolling through the village, eating some candy I bought from a shop, while sightseeing.

Turns out Konoha is a surprisingly beautiful place. I WAS tempted to go to the red-light district, but I couldn't afford to lose any more mon- make any more generous donations in support of honest business owners.

I decided to change street, only to be met by quite the sight. A kid in a bright orange jumpsuit, behind him a girl with pink hair, facing off against a another dressed in black, behind whom stood another girl, one with two side buns which were of a sandy blonde shade. Also some little kids near them.

The genin dressed in black picked up one of the little kids, which made Naruto, because there is no one else in this world who would willingly dress like that, attack. And he got kicked back. I continued to walk leisurely towards them, as this isn't my problem.

While I approached, both Sasuke and Gaara made their appearances, and I was only a few metres away. I rummaged through my bag of sweets for a new one, and by the time I raised my head again, the Suna genin had left.

I continued to approach, and I started waving towards them, to get their attention. Naruto waved back, happily. Sakura looked at me confused, while Sasuke looked me up and down, his eyes stopping on my forehead protector for a second, before averting his gaze. I took a sweet out of my bag, and threw it at Naruto, and some to the little kids beside him.

"What weirdos, am I right or am I right?" I said, while eating another piece of candy. This would fill the void until I got back to horse racing.

"That's what I thought as well! What was their problem?!?" Naruto shouted, all to excitedly. I high-fived him.

"You can think?" Asked Sakura, seemingly surprised, which caused both me and Naruto to glare at her. However, before me and Naruto could say something, Sasuke intervened.

"And what is your business in Konoha?" He asked, his eyes staring daggers at me. My face widened into a happy grin; my arms raised up in the air.

"Diplomacy and the Chunin Exams. I am Zenin Naoya, happy to meet ya." I said, relaxed. This was my ride to an easy life, just become a good friend of Naruto, and I'd be set for a long time.

"Ju- " Before Sasuke could continue, I cut him off.

I prepared myself to make a good impression, by putting a wide smile on my face, outstretching my hand towards him, with the intention to express my sympathy for the loss of his clan.

'Isn't your family dead? What a coincidinc! Mine is too! Lets be friends' is going to work wonders here.

Unfortunately, I was interupted right as I begun to speak. Baki tackled me, sending me flying, only for me to Project back. I winked at the trio, who looked at me with slacked jaws.

"What's up Baki? What brings you here?" However, instead of an answer, I was handed a paper.

"Fill this, and get to Deiki as soon as possible. He needs it to get you in the Chunin Exams." He said, panting, with both his hands resting on his knees, after I took the paper.

"Well have fun with these guys that I found then."

While I didn't manage to give off the perfect impression I wanted, I still believed it was pretty good. I quickly departed, taking off towards the inn.

-----------------

"What a wierdo..." Said the pink-haired girl. The black-haired boy simply nodded.

"This was very tame... Did he say anything about women?" I asked, still panting.

"No, why?" I released a sigh of relief, rising up to my full height.

"No reason, just don't get him started and he will only be a little eccentric." I said, a hand going through my hair, to slick it back again.

"Who are you anyway?"

-------------------

I hope Baki is doing well with those two, they are good people, after all. He also knows his way around Karin, so women won't cause him any issues. I hope he continues to better their impression of me.

-------------------

"Yeah, he lost like 5 million ryo on horse racing. I don't know why he wouldn't bet on any horse except the half-dead one."

-------------------

After all, we are great friends.

-------------------

"He is a little weird, and honestly? He is kind of an asshole."

-------------------

Right?

-------------------

"Feel bad for him. Without me and Karin, he would have no friends, except for a creepy old man."

-------------------

Right. He would never talk bad about me. He is too dumb for that.

-------------------

"He also looks down on most people, myself included."

-------------------

The back of my neck itches. I gave Deiki the paper, and set out again, to get something to eat, after all, my good friend Baki will give them a good impression of me.

I went to a restaurant of the "Akimichi" clan. And I must say, these people know their food, and their women stay in the kitchen. Truly a refined people. I sent a friendly letter of appreciation as the head of the Zenin clan for the excellent service. Also gave a mighty tip to the waiter.

Shortly after my meal, I set out to wonder again. And I saw someone else of interest. One Shikamaru Nara. He was laying on some grass under a tree, gazing at the clouds. I drew near him, and, once I was by his side, I started pointing at his head.

"Why does your hair look like a pineapple?" He ignored me. I took out some sand from my pocket and put it in his eyes. He rubbed his eyes. I continued to look at him, seeing he had no intention of reacting further, I decided to sit next to him.

Pretty soon, a rotund individual came towards Shikamaru with a bag of chips in his hands. I took out a sweet out of my bag and threw it at him. He caught it, and ate it, then, as he approached, he gave me some of his chips. We continued to eat for a while, with Shikamaru eventually joining in, after Choji asked him to. I was having a grand time, mostly talking with Shikamaru about shogi, since I was quite a skilled player from my many matches with Hōtai.

Engaged in a riveting conversation, we failed to notice the presence of the end of our fun. A blonde girl with a pony-tie approached us, not saying a word, until she was upon us. Her shrill voice broke us out of our conversation.

"SHIKAMARU! ASUMA-SENSEI HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU SINCE MORNING!" Now, Choji and Shikamaru seemed prepared for this, and simply covered their ears as soon as they heard her, I however, was stunned by her sudden shout.

"SHUT UP WOMAN!" I said, then I punched her in the stomach. She collapsed on her face, clutching her stomach. I scratched the back of my head as I thought of how I could salvage this.

"It was instinct." I said confidently. Much to the annoyance of her two teammates.

"What do you mean instinct? Who hears someone screaming and punches them instantly?" Shikamaru said, his palm on his forehead, staring at me from beneath it.

"I- It doesn't matter. I won't punch the next time someone shout in my ear." Before I could continue my apology to Choji and Shikamaru, I was interrupted by a another shout. And this time, it was followed by a dropkick to my cheek. Which I didn't dodge. Why? Because it was Karin, and this would justify my reaction pretty well.

"NAO-" I Projected in front of her, and put my index finger on her lips, and, after a shush motion, I spoke. "That is Head of the Zenin Clan to you."

"Naoya." Karin said, with a disturbing calm, uncharacteristic of her. She was staring daggers at me. "Did you take my sweets?"

"And I finally thought you did your job and made some food! You're a woman but can't even work the kitchen! What even can you do?" The corner of my mouth twitched into a slight grin, as I tried to keep a straight face.

Surprisingly, instead of reacting to my taunts, Karin hit me in the crotch. Hard. I Projected to my bag, which I left on the ground near the downed Yamanaka, and tossed it at her. She caught it, and, after a few seconds, threw it back at me.

"That isn't my bag. How come you didn't take my bag?" Karin asked, with rage boiling behind her eyes.

"I am rich, unlike you. Why would I want to take your bag?" I asked much to Karin's confusion.

"To annoy me, obviously. Listen, if you see my bag, get it to me. I have something I need urgently in it" She said, rolling her eyes.

"You on your cy-" I dodged her punch. "Go get your bag and let me discuss with people capable of holding civilized conversations."

----------------------

"Sensei, how much longer do you think it will take for Karin to figure out Naoya doesn't have her bag?" My sweet disciple, Baki, asked. I simply smiled.

"Just eat as much as you can. These are very good, we won't get to eat such good homemade pastries for a while." I said, stuffing more sweets into my mouth. "This brings me back to the good old days, Baki... Me, Hōtai and the Kusakabe used to do this to one of our teammates back during the war. This is one of the deepest bonding experiences one can have with another man."

I heard the door to the inn open, and angry breathing coming after it.

"Karin is here."

Baki swallowed the pastries he had in his mouth, and jumped out the window into a bush. I smiled. It was time for the second part of the bonding experience. I dropped Karin's bag and took after Baki.
