CHAPTER 5
May and Claude stared blankly at Sarah, speechless.
May was terrified of Sarah, who could give her a lovable gaze while watching Claude, despite his obsessive and stubborn nature.
Claude, on the other hand, was surprised by Sarah’s calm attitude, even though he had cried violently and refused her earlier.
Little did they know, Sarah was now struggling with the urge to scoop Claude up and bite him.
It was a moment when May and Claude unknowingly became closer to each other.
“Claude!”
A man’s urgent voice called the child’s name from afar.
At that moment, the sound of heavy heels pounding hurriedly against the floor echoed through the hallway.
Claude lifted his head and looked toward the doorway, where the door had been blown off.
“The Duke is coming.”
Instantly, the atmosphere among the servants shifted. They moved in unison, focusing on tidying up Claude’s room.
“What should I do?!”
“Claude, please calm down!”
“May! Help me quickly!”
From the moment the man’s voice was heard, Claude grew restless.
He ran his small, fern-like hand through his messy hair, pulled the blanket to wipe his tear-stained face, and tried to smooth the wrinkles on his clothes.
Sarah narrowed her eyes as she observed Claude’s frantic attempts to fix his appearance.
Confusion and a faint trace of fear flickered in the child’s eyes. Claude didn’t want his father to know he had rejected the nanny.
‘Claude knows he was wrong.’
There seemed to be hope.
The fact that he still longed for his parents’ love and was trying to win their approval meant that it wasn’t too late for him.
“Claude Ambrosia!”
The duke’s voice was now close enough to indicate that he was almost there.
Sarah grabbed May’s arm, who was sweating nervously beside a frozen, pale Claude, and gently pushed her back.
“What are you doing? Nanny, go away! I don’t need you!”
Claude was wary of Sarah and shouted defensively. He looked like a kitten baring its tiny fangs in warning.
Meanwhile, Sarah smiled contentedly at hearing Claude call her a nanny.
Lowering herself to his eye level, Sarah asked gently, “Can I help you?”
“How?”
“I’ll clean you up before the Duke arrives. Of course, what happened today will remain a secret.”
“Really?”
Claude’s ears perked up, his tear-filled eyes looking up at her with a hopeful expression that was incredibly cute.
“Of course. But there’s one condition.”
“What is it?”
Sarah turned and gestured to the servants standing still. They rushed out of the room to stall the Duke’s arrival, hoping to buy a little more time.
“It’s simple. You just need to accept me as your nanny.”
Claude hesitated, his stubbornness wavering. Giving in would hurt his pride.
“Duke, you are here?”
“Step aside. I need to see Claude.”
“Ah, Your Grace, Claude is inside, but we have an urgent meeting…”
Outside the room, the servants desperately continued their conversation to delay the Duke.
Eventually, Claude lost his composure and frantically nodded.
“Fine! I’ll do it! Just fix me up quickly. What if my father hates me even more?”
“Why would the Duke hate you, Claude?”
“How would you know that?!”
Claude snapped, his face crumpling in distress.
Seeing the deep doubt in his eyes, Sarah smiled bitterly.
She gently placed a finger on his forehead, infusing a bit of magical energy.
“Ugh!”
May gasped in shock, recalling the earlier explosion.
‘Is she going to blow up Claude this time?’
Sarah glanced at May with an exasperated look. Still, the servant’s concern for Claude as her young master was understandable.
With a snap of Sarah’s fingers
—snap!—
Duke Ambrosia stormed into the room.
“Claude!”
His breathing was heavy, platinum hair disheveled, and his uniform was in disarray, with a few collar buttons undone.
Ethan Ambrosia, known for his calm and rational demeanor, appeared completely flustered—a rare sight for the servants.
If it weren’t for his striking appearance, they might not have recognized him.
“Claude?”
The Duke’s frantic eyes scanned the room until they landed on Claude, sitting quietly on the bed.
With dark blue eyes and neatly combed hair, Claude looked composed.
The Duke’s chest, which had been rising and falling with deep, labored breaths, finally settled with relief.
“No injuries.”
He let out a long sigh and ran a hand through his damp hair.
“Ah.”
Only then did Ethan Ambrosia realize who Claude was with.
“Countess Millen.”
After straightening his uniform, the Duke finally acknowledged Sarah.
“This is Ethan Ambrosia. Please forgive my delayed greetings.”
He extended his hand toward her in a courteous manner.
“Oh my.”
Sarah covered her mouth in surprise.
‘Why did Dielin have to be involved with this Duke Ambrosia…?’
She was relieved that she didn’t make a fool of herself by staring.
Even if she combined the experiences of both Park Hyeyeon and Sarah Millen, she had never seen such a strikingly handsome man before.
Sarah couldn’t help but rethink her friend’s romantic troubles.
“I’m Sarah Millen. I forgot my manners earlier, but Claude welcomed me warmly.”
“Is that so?”
Ethan Ambrosia’s skeptical gaze shifted to Claude, as if questioning the possibility.
Noticing his father’s stare, Claude tensed up and awkwardly hid his face behind Sarah’s back.
‘Hiding just your face doesn’t mean your whole body disappears, you know?’
Sarah held back a laugh at Claude’s adorable reaction.
She resisted the urge to scoop him up and nuzzle his cheeks.
“Claude-sama is such a delight. I think I’ll enjoy working here.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
Ethan knelt slightly to meet Claude’s gaze, making the boy cautiously peek out from behind Sarah.
“Well done, Claude. Don’t forget that you’re the heir of House Ambrosia. You must learn to be brave.”
“Yes, Father.”
Claude’s eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected praise.
A deep blush spread across his cheeks, and he fidgeted with the hem of his freshly cleaned clothes, clearly pleased.
“So, about the incident…”
“The incident?”
“Yes. Were there any explosions?”
Ethan wiped his neck, recalling the moment he had learned about the sudden use of magic in the mansion.
He had rushed back in a panic, fearing the worst.
At the memory of the door crashing through the window, his face darkened.
“That…”
Sarah averted her eyes awkwardly, trailing off.
Ethan’s expression grew serious.
Was even the talented magician Sarah troubled? If so, what on earth had happened here?
