Mythos Of Narcissus: Reborn As An NPC In A Horror VRMMO

Chapter 258: We Found It!

Docking his arms beside her hips, the Theotech entity began gathering pure psionic energy with the arm-like ends of her wings.

I analyzed the amount of energy that was rapidly converging. It was ridiculously immense, to the point that I caught a stray goosebumps for thinking that my life was on the verge of non-existence if I were to get hit with that amount of collective power.

Thankfully, I was fighting her with my spiritual projection. My soul might be damaged if that projection was obliterated, but it would regenerate within a week or so, preventing the fatal scenario from falling onto me.

However, it was also this very moment where the Theotech was caught lowering her defenses.

Without any prompt or movement, I used my perceptive extension as an anchor to transfer my spiritual projection and close the distance almost instantly.

"I got you~"

And I started to grab her neck as the collected psionic energies were sprayed all around like a loose catastrophe.

The Theotech entity twisted and thrashed as I tightened my grip around her neck, her jet-thruster-like tail flaring with violent bursts of blue energy in an attempt to wrench herself free.

Her golden aura flared brighter, jagged arcs of psychic resistance lashing out, distorting the realm around us with surges of alien force.

The air between us crackled as her prehensile wings struck out, their arm-like appendages generating shockwaves aimed at forcing me to release her.

But I didn't falter. I yanked her forward with a surge of strength, spinning to gain momentum before slamming her into the psychic boundary of the realm.

The impact resonated like a bell tolling through the void, cracks of shimmering energy spiderwebbing across the barrier as her form crumpled into it momentarily.

She let out no audible sound, but the psychic backlash roared in defiance, a guttural force that attempted to claw into my spiritual projection and destabilize it.

I felt the edges of my projection flicker but pushed through, channeling my strength to maintain form. Without hesitation, I dragged her through the fractured boundary and into another layer of this chaotic nexus.

"Arrrgh!!"

"There, there, it all will be over soon."

Every psychic barrier we passed buckled under the sheer force of her body colliding with them.

The golden glyphs on each layer erupted into wild bursts of energy, the patterns shattering like fragile glass as I hurled her through one after another.

The psychic realm screamed in retaliation, and every shatter sent waves of backlash that clawed at my projection, but I endured it all.

"Stay still," I muttered, though I doubted she understood—or cared.

Her tail thrashed wildly, the booster at its end igniting again as she tried to propel herself away from my grip.

The force burned against my projection, her attacks a mix of desperation and calculated computer precision, but I used her momentum to spin her around and slam her into yet another psychic wall.

By now, the layers of interference were thinning, and I could feel a faint shift in the fabric of the realm around us. Something—or someone—was cutting through the chaos, reaching toward us.

The first sign was the familiar purple tendrils.

They appeared without warning, massive arcs of violet and crimson energy, crackling with arcane force.

The tendrils twisted and writhed as they pierced through the fragmented layers of the realm, moving with serpentine haste and accuracy.

I immediately recognized their nature.

Kuzunoha.

So, she had figured out what was happening here.

Then again, I doubt that Kuzunoha wouldn't eventually find out what was happening within the chaotic floors of the spire. One can deem that I'm just hastening the process.

I smirked despite myself and used the opportunity to fling the Theotech entity toward the tendrils with all the force I could muster.

The sudden shift caught her off guard, and her thrusters flared too late to correct her trajectory.

The tendrils moved like living things, coiling around her limbs and wings with terrifying speed.

The energy they emitted seemed to suppress her golden aura, dimming the radiance as they tightened their grip. She thrashed and twisted, her efforts now directed at breaking free from the tendrils, but they held firm.

With one final lurch, the tendrils retracted, pulling her out of the psychic realm entirely and severing the connection between her and the network she had been controlling. Discover hidden stories at empire

"I guess my job here is done."

The realm around me stilled.

The oppressive weight of her presence was gone, replaced by a disquieting silence that hummed in the back of my mind. My task was done.

I retracted my spiritual projection, allowing my awareness to flow back to the vessel that was standing on the deck of Landship.

Through my higher existential perception, I extended my consciousness to where Kuzunoha and the others were once again, connecting to the telepathic communication channel as I observed the scene.

The Theotech entity had been dragged directly into the midst of the expedition team. Her golden aura, though subdued, still shimmered faintly as she struggled against the arcane tendrils that bound her.

Yet despite not knowing the nature of this sudden event, everyone I saw was quick to act accordingly.

Viviane was the first to react. Her fae magic flared to life, shimmering threads of ethereal energy weaving around the entity, reinforcing the restraints. The threads tightened with an almost organic fluidity, binding the entity's movements further.

Verina stepped forward next, her crystalline musket now charged with the essence of her Furnace. She didn't fire, but the ambient heat around her weapon seemed to radiate toward the entity, dissipating the remnants of rebellion that clung to her form

"What in the world…" Viviane muttered, her voice echoing through the telepathic channel as she stared at the restrained figure. She might had acted accordingly when there was a sudden perceived threat, but that doesn't mean she knew what was actually going on. "Kuzunoha, what did you just grab and throw here?"

"A succulent prize," Kuzunoha replied smugly, her tone as casual as if she had just plucked a flower from a garden. "Or rather, the thing that we've been looking for all along."

Verina's eyes narrowed as she studied the entity. "This… feels familiar. It's reminiscent of Lambda."

Ah, right. Lambda was also essentially a Theotech entity to a great extent.

Though, I wonder if my Valtherion form was more or less connected or the same with the Theotech entity that I had just fought.

Seeing how vivid the Theotech entity was when being brought outside the psychic realm, it was amazing how an entity could have both ethereal and physical property.

Maybe I could try working on that. Having an escape route into non-physical place whenever things get rough should be a nice addition to my defensive and offensive arsenal.

Not to mention, it also didn't seem to be categorized as teleportation, meaning that it wasn't opposed by Carcosa's strict rule.

Oh well, regardless, I decided that it was time for me to chime in. "I fought her just now," I said, my tone casual. "She's the one controlling the spire's chaotic floors. But I don't know what she is. Her history, purpose, even her name—all of it is a blank to me when I pried using my existential privilege."

Kuzunoha's smirk widened. "That's because she's not an 'entity' in the way you're thinking, my love." She chuckled in amusement. "What you're looking at is a Theotech Vessel."

The shock that followed was palpable.

"A… Theotech Vessel?" Viviane finally asked, her voice tinged with disbelief. "That thing?"

Kuzunoha nodded, her crimson eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "Precisely. The very thing we've been searching for."

"But how?" I curiously interjected. "She—or it—possessed consciousness and intellect. I fought her. She spoke to me, resisted me. How can that be if she's just a vessel?"

"That's the nature of a Theotech Vessel," Kuzunoha explained. "It's an empty shell by design, but that doesn't mean it lacks functionality. These vessels were created for a purpose so ancient and convoluted that even I can't say for sure what it was, but that also means its nature and capabilities were as mysterious and rich and incomprehensible to many.

"Some passages suggest they were meant to house the consciousness of cosmic gods, allowing them to walk among mortals without disrupting Carcosa's balance. Others claim they were attempts to replicate divine extensions without creating one outright~

"Whatever the truth is, they're powerful, adaptable, and… occasionally reactive."

The implications of her words settled heavily over the group.

"So, we found our prize, just as you aforementioned," Verina said after a moment, gazing toward her head-only friend that was comfortably sleeping amidst the chaos and conflict of the expedition. "And it looks like Lupina has finally found a new home."

"You make it sound as if she is a snail that got removed from her shell," Viviane commented.

The stabilizing device holding Lupina's disembodied head whirred softly as Verina nudged it with the toe of her boot. "Wake up, sleepyhead. You've been out for days, and we're all trapped in here with no way out. Better start panicking."

Lupina's eyes snapped open, her expression panicked as she stammered incoherently. "What—trapped? Days? What are you talking about—"

Viviane sighed, her magic still reinforcing the restraints on the Vessel. "She's messing with you, Lupina. We're fine. Calm down."

"That's not funny!" Lupina snapped, though her voice wavered as she glared at Verina.

Before she could continue her tirade, Kuzunoha interrupted. "Enough chatter. We've achieved our goal, but the real work begins now~

"The transfer process is about to commence, and let me warn you, Lupina—it's going to be excruciatingly painful."

Lupina's eyes widened in horror. "Wait, what did you just said about the process going to be excruciatingly—"

Kuzunoha didn't give her the chance to finish. With a flick of her hand, the process began, the stabilizing device glowing with an ominous light.
