Chapter 65: The First Student Council meeting Begins, Girls' Reactions

______

"Hey, don't be so nervous. I won't eat you."

Looking at Sena's pitiful appearance, Elric couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu, as if he had returned to the first time he met her. Back then, this little girl had been shy, perhaps due to losing her mother at such a young age.

Unconsciously, a feeling of pity welled up in him. He reached out and gently ruffled her hair, just like he had done all those years ago. "Don't be nervous, Come with me."

Don't be nervous. Come with me.

Hearing Elric's words, a memory suddenly surfaced in Sena's mind. It was a faint recollection of a conversation she had with a little boy during her childhood. The details were blurry, but she could vaguely remember that the boy had been important to her—and so was the hairpin he had given her.

Without realizing it, she subconsciously followed Elric. By the time she came to her senses, they had already reached the gates of the student council room.

As Elric pushed the door open, Sena stepped inside and was immediately struck by the sight of several beautiful girls, all of whom possessed exceptional figures and stunning appearances.

Among this group, one girl in particular stood out—Yukinoshita Haruno, seated at the center. Her gaze fell on Sena and Elric. Although her eyes were emotionless, they carried an undeniable sense of pressure.

"Sorry, it's because of me that Elric was late," Sena began to explain, but before she could finish, Elric interrupted.

"Sorry, everyone," he said calmly. "I was in a hurry on the way and accidentally bumped into Sena, which caused us both to be late."

Elric naturally took the blame upon himself. He didn't do this for any particular reason—it simply felt like the considerate thing to do.

After all, Sena wasn't familiar with the other student council members. Watching her cautious demeanor and noting the well-preserved hairpin in her hair, he couldn't bear to let her shoulder any unnecessary pressure.

"It's okay. It's good that you're here," Haruno said with a smile.

Seeing Elric subtly shielding Sena, Haruno wasn't surprised. In her memory, Elric had always been a gentle and thoughtful person.

Still smiling, Haruno didn't say much. Elric greeted the others in the room with a glance before taking a seat at the outermost edge of the table, right next to Yukino.

Stare~~~

As soon as Elric sat down, Kaguya, Yuki, and Suzune all turned to look at him and Yukino at the same time. Their synchronized actions drew curious glances from Chika and Hayasaka as well.

"Alright, now that everyone is here, let's begin the first freshman student council meeting," Haruno announced, clapping her hands lightly to gather everyone's attention.

Her gaze swept over the group of girls, and a flicker of amusement danced in her eyes. Haruno hadn't specifically sought out members for the student council; she had simply invited people she knew with excellent grades or strong family backgrounds.

Originally, she had considered the second daughter of the Suzuki family, but after meeting Sonoko once, Haruno quickly realized she wasn't suitable for the council.

Now that the council was established, Haruno had noticed something peculiar. Aside from Sena, it seemed that everyone else in the room already knew Elric.

And now…

As she observed Sena sitting cautiously next to Elric, Haruno's smile deepened. Perhaps, in one way or another, even Sena was connected to Elric.

She had many thoughts running through her mind but didn't let them stop her from speaking. After briefly introducing herself, she encouraged everyone else to do the same.

"My name is Shinomiya Kaguya," came the first, calm and composed voice.

"Hayasaka Ai," said the next, short and polite.

"Hello everyone, I'm Fujiwara Chika! We're all friends," she added with an energetic smile.

"Horikita Suzune," came a curt, no-nonsense introduction.

"Hello everyone, I'm Suou Yuki. Nice to meet you. Please give me your guidance," said another, her tone warm and friendly.

"Yukinoshita Yukino," said the next voice, cool and reserved.

"Um… I'm Kashiwazaki Sena. Please teach me!" added a slightly nervous but earnest voice.

The introductions revealed a mix of personalities—some cold, some arrogant, some friendly, and some shy.

When it was Elric's turn, he waved casually, exuding his characteristic nonchalance. "Hi!" he said simply.

"Elric~~~!" Yuki greeted him warmly, without a trace of hesitation.

"Elric, I haven't seen you recently. What have you been up to?" she added, her tone light yet familiar.

Repressing her emotions, Kaguya remained composed, unwilling to behave as openly as Yuki.

"Elric sama," Hayasaka addressed him politely, using honorifics.

"Elric… I haven't seen you in a while," said Suzune, looking up at him with a neutral expression. Yet, beneath her calm exterior, she felt a strange excitement and wondered why she wanted Elric to notice her more.

"Elric, you've grown even more handsome," Chika chimed in cheerfully, her bright smile radiating warmth.

"…Um…" Sena's voice was so soft that, if she hadn't been sitting next to Elric, it might have gone unnoticed.

"Elric… " Yukino greeted quietly, feeling a sudden sense of isolation despite being surrounded by people.

"Alright, alright. It seems like everyone is well-acquainted with each other, so I'll keep this short," Haruno interjected with a knowing smile.

From the girls' attitudes toward Elric, Haruno could discern certain dynamics. Handing out sheets of paper, she directed their attention to the topic she had gathered them to discuss.

"Kendo competition?"

The bold header on the page caught Kaguya's eye first. She raised her hand to ask a question.

"Shinomiya, please speak," Haruno said, gesturing to her.

"President Yukinoshita, what does this kendo competition have to do with Toyogasaki University? It doesn't seem to relate to academics, does it?"

Kaguya's tone was inquisitive but measured. A skilled practitioner of tea ceremony, flower arrangement, dance, koto, and the martial art of naginata, Kaguya was a true all-rounder. However, she couldn't understand why this competition was relevant to their school.

"I've heard of this kendo tournament," Yuki interjected. "It's a friendly match designed to select outstanding students in various fields."

She paused before continuing, "This is the first national competition of its kind, and unlike traditional events like Taekwondo or Aikido, participants in this kendo tournament are allowed to use real weapons. It's garnered a lot of attention because of that."

Her tone grew more thoughtful as she added, "Although similar competitions have been held before, this is the first one on a national level. I believe Toyogasaki, as the country's top aristocratic University, wants to participate to prove it excels not just academically but in other areas as well."

As a diplomat with sharp political insight, Yuki easily grasped the significance of the event.

"That's correct," Haruno confirmed with a nod. "As you've all noticed, the school is paying close attention to this kendo competition. Since this is the inaugural event, most participants will be freshmen. That's why I gathered you all here today—I'd like to hear your opinions. Who do you think would be suitable to represent Toyogasaki University in this competition?"

As she spoke, Haruno's gaze swept over the group, lingering on a particular individual. Observing how the girls' eyes gravitated toward Elric, Haruno's own focus sharpened. It was as though she wanted to test him.

"What about you, Elric? What do you think?" she asked, her tone tinged with curiosity.
