Chapter 318: Chapter 0317: Luring the Snake out of the Hole (Three Updates)_1
Half an hour later, Ye Xiong and He Mengji rushed to the riverside crime scene.
The area had already been cordoned off, and the police were protecting the scene.
Seeing Ye Xiong and He Mengji arrive, Luo Weiwei approached and said, “After a preliminary investigation, the victim was determined to have died half a month ago. He was stabbed in the back before his body was sunk into the sea. His body was accidentally fished out by a fishing boat.”
“Calculating the time, it coincides with when I returned from Capital City and was preparing to hold a meeting,” Ye Xiong furrowed his brows.
“Judging by the wound on his body, it’s very likely that Lu Long was ambushed from behind and killed inadvertantly. The killer sank his body into the sea to hide the evidence. It seems that the mole in our company isn’t Lu Long; he was killed by the real mole,” He Mengji said seriously.
Ye Xiong nodded, that possibility was very high.
“If Lu Long wasn’t the mole, then our suspects are narrowed down to four people: Vermilion Bird, Chen Xiao, Angel, and Du Feng,” Ye Xiong thought for a moment and then said, “Weiwei, don’t let the news of Lu Long’s death get out for now. Let’s catch the murderer before we tell everyone.”
After returning to the company, Ye Xiong and He Mengji stayed in the office, both deep in thought.
“Who do you think is the most likely to be the mole?” asked He Mengji.
“The most suspicious one is Du Feng, who was introduced to us by Phoenix. He used to follow Long Tianya and left because he was dissatisfied with Long Zaitian taking over the Dragon Group. His allegiance seems to lie with Long Tianya,” Ye Xiong explained.
“I also think he’s quite suspicious, but after all, he’s a member of the Dragon Group with strong anti-investigative skills. It won’t be easy to get our hands on evidence against him…”
“Do you have any ideas?”
“I’ve come up with an idea to lure the snake out of its hole. If Du Feng really is the mole, he will certainly follow Long Tianya’s orders to monitor you, ready to report the moment you slip,” He Mengji suggested.
“So, you want to draw him out and let him expose himself?”
“That’s exactly my plan, but for the moment, I can’t find suitable bait. The mole must believe that the bait has value worth taking a risk for.”
Ye Xiong instantly thought of the Lingnan Sect information. If Long Tianya knew he was planning a trip, and it was very likely to investigate the Lingnan Sect, he would surely want to know the target of his operation and how much information Ye Xiong had gathered about him. With this in mind, Ye Xiong shared his thoughts with He Mengji.
“That’s a good idea. Let’s set up the trap and let him fall into it.”
The next morning, He Mengji gathered all the core personnel of the company in the conference room.
Phoenix, Chen Xiao, Vermilion Bird, An Le, and Du Feng were all present, only Angel was absent.
Ye Xiong sat at the head of the table, glanced at the people below, and then spoke, “I have to carry out a very important task in the next few days and will be making a trip to Lingnan. I’m unsure how long this trip will take, so I’m informing you in advance. In my absence, all company affairs will be managed by He Mengji. If you have any issues, report them to her first, and she will convey them to me.”
“If this mission goes well, our organization will face much less pressure in the future. I promise you that we will soon be able to relax and focus solely on the task of making money without having to worry about the Beast Organization anymore,” He Mengji continued.
He Mengji had already discussed this with Ye Xiong. The two took turns speaking, suggesting that catching Ghost in Lingnan would be like catching a ghost.
Only then would the mole take things seriously.
In Ye Xiong’s hand was a printout with small, fine text on the cover, which despite being far, could still be discerned by the audience as relating to Lingnan Sect and Mr. Ghost.
As the meeting was in progress, suddenly an employee burst in from outside, hastily saying, “Boss, something’s happened. A lot of police have arrived outside, saying that they’ve found traces of Lu Long, and they’re out there now?”
“What?”
Ye Xiong stood up startled and hurriedly ran outside.
He Mengji and the rest of the people rushed out in a hurry.
In the conference room, Du Feng stared intently at the documents Ye Xiong had left on the table, wrestling with a difficult decision.
Suddenly, he swiftly took out his phone, activated the video function, flipped through the documents at high speed, and hurriedly scanned them.
“`
The whole process took less than three seconds, and he thought he could do it without anyone noticing since there were no surveillance cameras in this conference room.
Just as he was about to put away his phone, Ye Xiong, who had just left, suddenly turned back and caught him red-handed.
“Du Feng, you’ve greatly disappointed me. I trusted you so much, even introduced you to Reaper, but I never imagined you’d betray us and even kill Lu Long to use as a scapegoat,” Phoenix said, her eyes filled with disappointment.
Du Feng was shocked and quickly reached for his gun.
He was fast, but Ye Xiong was faster.
A streak of black light flashed, Mo Bing’s dart shot out, lodging into his wrist.
The gun in Du Feng’s hand dropped to the floor; he didn’t even try to pick it up but yanked at the shirt over his chest, revealing a bomb device, and exclaimed in panic, “Don’t come any closer, or I’ll detonate the bomb and kill us all.”
Everyone around was shocked. They had never imagined that Du Feng would be so insane as to strap a remote-controlled bomb to himself.
“Ever since Lu Long died, I’ve had this bomb strapped to me all the time. I knew you would eventually suspect me. Did you think I’d dare to stay in the Dragon’s Den without any protection?” Du Feng said, his uninjured left hand firmly pressing on the remote, his gaze locked on Ye Xiong and the others.
“Back off, nobody come closer!” Du Feng shouted.
As Phoenix was about to move in, Ye Xiong held her back and said, “Everyone get out, don’t come any closer.”
“Ye Xiong.”
“Boss.”
“Everyone out,” Ye Xiong ordered.
The bomb was powerful enough to blow up the entire floor; he didn’t dare to take the risk.
“Du Feng, don’t get excited,” Ye Xiong took two steps forward.
Du Feng hurriedly backed towards the window and said anxiously, “Stop, don’t come any closer, let everyone clear out.”
Just as he finished speaking, there was a sudden ‘thud’.
A bullet from outside the window flew in, instantly blowing Du Feng’s head off, exploding it.
The sniper, Angel, lurking in the shadows, had found an opportunity to shoot.
As Du Feng fell, he instinctively pressed the remote.
Ye Xiong was startled and his body suddenly surged forward, lunging with all his might.
With a powerful palm strike, Du Feng’s body was sent flying out the window, crashing through the glass.
With a loud boom, Du Feng’s body exploded midair.
The shockwave from the explosion shattered all the glass, and the entire office was struck by the blast, even the doors were blown open.
At the entrance, everyone’s face changed color.
Phoenix and Meng Ji rushed in together.
The entire office was a complete mess, strewn with glass fragments, everything inside was destroyed.
Ye Xiong’s body was pinned down by the conference room table, not moving at all, his fate unknown.
