Chapter 149: They’re All Fools
"Senior Brother, are we going to make a move?" asked a young man in robes marked with a winged demon symbol on his clothes as he stood atop a thick tree branch.
The man he addressed, clearly in charge, shook his head with a calm yet serious expression. "At least two other groups are watching. Anyone who acts first will pay the price. We'll wait for chaos to break out and fish in troubled waters," he said.
Nearby, two other members of their sect stood silently, observing the situation. Even the weakest among them had reached the 7th stage of the Foundation Establishment realm.
Although the Qian Empire was considered weak compared to the other sects under the protection of the Dao Seeking School, the top sects were notable exceptions. The Heavenly Demon Sect, as a top sect, could provide resources and training far beyond what smaller sects like the White Crow Sect could offer.
Not far from the Heavenly Demon Sect group, two other teams silently observed the scene. Their eyes were locked on the indigo orb guarded by two low tier 3 demon beasts, fiery monkeys.
The creatures' red fur shimmered in the light, giving them an almost mesmerizing appearance. Despite their small and seemingly harmless size, no cultivator present would dare underestimate their power or speed.
"Senior Brother, we've been here for thirty minutes already," said a woman clad in robes adorned with the Blue Dragon Sect emblem.
She shifted her gaze between the fiery monkeys and another group lurking nearby. "If we're going to act, wouldn't it make more sense to attack the other group first instead of the fiery monkeys?"
"The Heavenly Sword Sect isn't the only one around," the senior brother said, his tone calm but cautious. "The Heavenly Demon Sect is also lurking nearby. If we attack either the other group or the demon beasts, we'll only end up exposing ourselves and losing the advantage."
The woman let out a frustrated sigh. "Then what's the point of waiting? We're just wasting time here. I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to—"
"Heavenly Dragon Slash!"
Before she could finish her sentence, a powerful voice cut through the air. In the next instant, a majestic dragon formed from pure energy appeared, its body shimmering with a vibrant glow.
The dragon and a blue-haired woman moved as one, surging toward one of the fiery monkeys with breathtaking speed.
The woman from the Blue Dragon Sect's expression shifted to one of surprise. "Never mind," she muttered under her breath.
Her senior brother smirked mockingly. "Ah, someone from the White Crow Sect. Looks like they're all fools. Prepare for battle!"
The three lurking groups immediately tensed, their gazes locking onto Huang Xue. They readied themselves, waiting for the right moment to snatch the orb and possibly kill her.
The first fiery monkey turned its attention to Huang Xue, letting out a piercing scream. Its glowing red fists clenched as it launched a powerful punch straight at her.
Huang Xue's sword met the attack head-on, the clash sending the monkey flying backward. Its right fist, which had taken the brunt of her strike, bore a deep gash that cut all the way to the bone.
The second fiery monkey's eyes burned with rage at the sight of its injured companion. With a dangerous red glow, its fur erupted into flames as it leaped at Huang Xue in a blazing arc.
Huang Xue raised her sword slightly to defend against the fiery assault, but before she could make a full move, a sharp voice rang out.
"Your opponent is me!"
A metal fan suddenly appeared between Huang Xue and the fiery monkey. The spiritual energy radiating from the fan was so cold it nearly extinguished the flames surrounding the beast.
Clang!
The metal fan clashed against the monkey's claw, sending ripples of yin and yang energy through the air. The force of the impact forced Qian Xiaoli to take two steps back, while the monkey staggered four steps.
The balance of power was clear, she had the upper hand.
"Freezing Moon!" Qian Xiaoli shouted, her voice sharp as she brandished her fan.
Behind her, a ghostly moon materialized, emanating a chilling wind that seemed to threaten to freeze everything beneath it.
Infused with yin spiritual qi, Qian Xiaoli swept her fan forward, releasing a freezing wind that surged toward the monkey.
"Hoo hoo hah ooh ha!" The monkey howled in fury, pounding its chest. Its glowing red eyes burned as though Qian Xiaoli were its sworn enemy.

The beast channeled powerful yang energy into its fists and charged straight at the icy attack. Its fiery punch collided with the freezing wind, raising the temperature slightly—but it wasn't enough.
The yin spiritual qi enveloped the monkey's body in an instant, freezing it solid as frost crept up its limbs.
After freezing the monkey, Qian Xiaoli jumped toward the immobilized creature. Her fan snapped shut, its pointed edge aimed directly at the monkey's small head.
Bang!
The impact shattered the monkey's frozen skull, killing it instantly. Shards of ice and fragments of bone scattered through the air as Qian Xiaoli landed gracefully, her cold eyes fixed on her now-defeated foe.
While Qian Xiaoli handled the second monkey, Huang Xue wasn't idle. She focused on the first fiery monkey, which was still very much capable of fighting despite its injuries.
As the monkey charged toward her, Huang Xue responded slamming her foot into the ground, her body surging with wood spiritual qi.
Before the monkey could close half the distance, thick roots burst from the ground, glowing with her qi. They wrapped tightly around the monkey, halting its movements.
The enraged beast ignited itself in flames, attempting to burn through the roots. Although the fire slowly weakened them, it wasn't nearly fast enough to free the monkey before Huang Xue acted.
With the beast trapped, Huang Xue dashed forward.
Slash!
Her sword cut cleanly through the monkey's neck, separating its head from its body in one smooth motion. The lifeless head hit the ground with a dull thud, its fire extinguished for good.
