Chapter 144: A Money-Hungry Scoundrel
Feng Fan and Qian Xiaoli moved side by side until Feng Fan suddenly stopped.
"Why did you stop?" Qian Xiaoli asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I just spotted our first orbs. Three green ones in that direction," Feng Fan said, pointing at an angle toward two o'clock. "There are four mid tier 2 demon beasts guarding them. Let's—" Experience tales with My Virtual Library Empire
Before he could finish, Qian Xiaoli's cultivation flared, revealing her 3rd Golden Core Formation realm.
A sleek black metal fan materialized in her hand, radiating power, and Feng Fan instantly recognized it as a top Spiritual-grade weapon.
'Rich people sure have it easy,' he thought with a smirk.
Without waiting for him, Qian Xiaoli dashed in the direction he'd indicated. The air filled with the sharp sound of slicing wind, then quickly fell silent.
Moments later, she returned with a triumphant smile. "All done. Let's head to the next spot."
"Wow, that was fast. You got everything? Didn't leave anything for me?" Feng Fan asked, feigning disappointment.
Qian Xiaoli chuckled lightly. "Just a few points. I'm sure you won't mind, since you're aiming for the white orb anyway."
Feng Fan rolled his eyes. "Alright, let's keep moving."
As they continued deeper toward the center, Feng Fan's spiritual qi vision revealed clusters of green and blue orbs scattered around.
'Still no sign of any indigo or violet. Looks like we'll need to push closer to the center.'
This time, instead of avoiding the orbs and the demon beasts guarding them as he had before, Feng Fan decided to face them head-on and claim the orbs.
Most of the demon beasts were mid tier 2, with only a handful reaching high tier 2. Their strength wasn't enough to pose a real challenge.
Together, Feng Fan and Qian Xiaoli quickly dealt with them, collecting a substantial number of points throughout the day.
By nightfall, they decided to stop and replenish their spiritual qi. With their high cultivation levels, going two weeks without sleep wouldn't be an issue, so they only needed to rest to maintain the spiritual qi inside their dantian at high levels.
Feng Fan searched for a secluded spot to ensure they wouldn't be disturbed but couldn't find anything suitable. Instead, he chose to settle where they were, setting up a few alarm arrays around the area.
If anyone crossed the perimeter, he would be alerted in time to react.
"How many points do you have?" Feng Fan asked, sitting on the ground with his back against a tree. Qian Xiaoli sat beside him, her head resting comfortably on his shoulder.
"Forty green orbs and fifteen blue ones, 210,000 points in total. Not bad for the first day, huh?"
Feng Fan rolled his eyes. "Aren't we supposed to be partners? Why do you have twice as many points as me? I'm the one finding all the orbs!"
Qian Xiaoli chuckled at his complaint. "You don't need them as much as I do. You're going to get the white orb, aren't you?"
Feng Fan sighed, choosing not to respond. He wasn't entirely confident he could secure the white orb, and if he failed, he'd need enough points to ensure a good ranking.
Even if he did get it, extra points wouldn't hurt.
"How do you find the orbs so easily?" Qian Xiaoli asked, curiosity lighting up her expression. "It's like you can pinpoint their exact location."
Feng Fan's lips curled into a smug smile. "Hehe, I've got plenty of secrets you don't know about, my dear wife!"
Qian Xiaoli's eye twitched as an urge to slap him surged within her, but she resisted." Forget it, then! Don't tell me!"
She pouted, crossing her arms briefly before closing her eyes to focus on cultivating and restoring her spiritual qi. Seeing her settle into cultivation, Feng Fan shrugged and followed suit, sitting quietly as he began replenishing his own reserves.
About fifteen minutes later, they both stopped cultivating and resumed their journey. As they continued gathering orbs, Feng Fan's eyes lit up when he spotted something unusual on the second day.
"I found two indigo orbs! Five people are fighting off a mid and a high tier 2 demon beasts nearby. Let's swoop in and take the orbs and their wealth for ourselves!" He said, his lips curling into a mischievous smile.
Qian Xiaoli gave him a puzzled look. "Why is robbing always the first thing that comes to your mind?"
Feng Fan's grin shifted into an exaggeratedly righteous expression. "Little Princess, you wouldn't understand the struggles of us poor folks. Robbing is how we fight back against the system!"
Qian Xiaoli clicked her tongue. "Fighting against the system? Don't kid yourself. You're just a shameless thief and a money-hungry scoundrel."
"Fine, then stay here. I'll take everything for myself!" Feng Fan said with a grin, dashing off toward the two indigo orbs.
"Hey! Who said I didn't want them?!" Qian Xiaoli shouted, stomping the ground in frustration before chasing after him.
Feng Fan perched himself on a tree branch, surveying the fight below. The cultivators ranged from the 6th to 7th stage of Foundation Establishment. Even on his own, he could handle them easily.
After observing the scene for a breath of time, he sprang into action. "This is a robbery! Hand over everything!" He yelled with a gleeful smirk.
'No wonder villains like saying cheesy lines before attacking. It makes this so much more exciting!' He thought, enjoying the moment.
The five disciples, clad in white robes with yellow eagle insignias, had just finished defeating the two demon beasts. They turned to Feng Fan, their faces twisted in shock.
"It's that bastard from the White Crow Sect, Feng Fan! Let's kill him!" One of them snarled, pointing his sword at Feng Fan.
"Hah! What a fool! Coming here alone to rob us? You must be suicidal," another sneered, leveling his spear at him.
The spear-wielding cultivator sprang into action, closing the distance between himself and Feng Fan in an instant. His spear shot forward with deadly precision, plunging straight into Feng Fan's chest and emerging cleanly from the other side!
