Chapter 48: A Powerful Cultivator comes to the Metro city.
---
Kent paused, a flicker of realization crossing his mind. System, help me out here. How does the memory-watching skill work?
Ding!
Host's sister, Nima, needs to close her eyes to view the memory of her soul servant.
Kent, eager to impress Nima and act like the big brother he wanted to be, stroked his chin, mimicking the wise old man, Xian Yu. "Nima, close your eyes. Try watching Raka's memory."
Nima's eyes widened. "WOW!! You're such a genius, Kent! If I don't close my eyes, I'll see his memory. Let me try again. Good idea, Kent!!! 💡"
With a determined look, Nima shut her eyes and focused. As she did, a stream of memories began to unfold before her. The last thing she saw was how Kent had defeated Raka, followed by visions of Raka's crimes—how he killed many people and where he hid the money after robbing the bank. But there was a strange void—nothing before the robbery. The memories were blank, like a dark abyss.
"I found where he hid the money, Kent," Nima exclaimed. "But there's nothing before he robbed the bank. Everything is empty!"
Kent gave a thoughtful nod. "Your lunch was amazing, Nima. It feels like I'm watching an anime too! But this guy, Raka… he's a bad one. What if his enemies come after us when we make him the big boss?"
Nima looked sceptical. "Don't worry, Kent. We'll make sure he never shows his face again. We'll appoint someone else as the vice leader to handle things. Raka will only be called upon when we need help. Don't stress; you're the big brother, and you've got it all figured out."
Kent chuckled, relieved. "Exactly! Now, get some rest. I'll cook something for us to eat."
Nima grinned mischievously. "You cook, I'll relax. It's almost morning anyway, and I'm hungry after all this soul-searching."
Kent sighed but gave in. "Alright, alright! I'll cook, but you should help me."
Nima smirked. "No need, I'll leave it to you. Raka will help you." She turned toward Raka, who was standing nearby, awaiting his orders.
Raka stood silently, ready to follow instructions.
As Kent headed off to the kitchen, Xian Yu appeared, calling him for training. Kent quickly excused himself, and Nima hid Raka, making sure everything was in order. Kent left with Xian Yu, but before he went, Nima waved him off from the window. Behind her, Raka silently observed, standing still.
Location Change – School Grounds:
At school, Kent noticed a murmur in the air. Everyone seemed preoccupied with their phones. Curious, he approached Ethan, who was busy checking his device.
"What's going on? Why is everyone so excited?" Kent asked, intrigued.
Ethan looked up, a grin spreading across his face. "Haven't you checked your phone today? Last night, the Watcher released a video offering a reward for anyone who can identify a certain person."
Kent frowned. "What video?"
Ethan showed him a clip. "This one. It's about a Level-C cultivator who defeated the robber from last night. The strange part? They say this cultivator lives in our city, but neither Nexus nor Watcher has been able to locate him."
Kent raised an eyebrow. That's convenient. My spiritual clock technique will keep me safe.
Ethan continued. "They're asking anyone who recognizes him to come forward, but with just his height and body shape, how can anyone identify him? It seems like an impossible task."
Kent thought to himself, relieved. Great! No need to worry—my spiritual clock technique is OP!
Ethan then lowered his voice, speaking with a hint of mystery. "By the way, there's something else. A Nexus cultivator is coming to our school today. He's been assigned to oversee Metro City. My family and other big families are trying to avoid him."
Kent frowned in confusion. "Avoid him? Isn't having a connection with Nexus a good thing?"
Ethan chuckled dryly. "You don't know? Every major family in the city knows that interacting too much with him is a bad idea. He's obsessed with money, but the problem is that he's terrible at keeping it. People who get too close to him end up losing money. It's like he has bad luck with wealth. There's even a rumour that bad luck is his superpower, though he never admits it."
Kent's curiosity peaked. "He's coming to our school?"
"Yep," Ethan confirmed. "He's also in charge of the new cultivation college Nexus is planning to build in the area."
Kent nodded, absorbing the information. "Got it. But I have one question—how do you know all of this secret information? You've never told me which clan you belong to."
Ethan didn't answer, avoiding Kent's gaze. "Let's go. We need to gather on the field to welcome the Nexus leader."
The wind suddenly picked up, and Kent felt a powerful spiritual energy pressure envelop the area. This aura… it feels familiar. It's similar to what I felt when the Nexus leader visited Grandpa Xian Yu.
Kent's eyes narrowed. If this is the Nexus leader in charge of our city, I'm sure he could've taken down the robber in one move. I might think I'm strong, but compared to these Level-B cultivators, I'm nothing.
A moment later, a fit yet slightly overweight man jumped down from the school rooftop. He landed gracefully on the PT stage, and despite his size, the landing was as light as a feather, with no sound or crater.
The man raised his arms, shouting, "Everyone, gather in a line! Anyone who wants my autograph, form a line!"
The students stood in stunned silence.
The man, now looking a bit embarrassed, cleared his throat. "Ahem! Hello, students! It's nice to meet you all. I'm your new principal for the special class. I hold a high position in Nexus and Watcher. My name is Jade Monroe, but you can call me Principal Jade."
He launched into a long-winded speech. "You are the future of this country. You must cultivate well and follow all orders diligently…"
Halfway through, his speech faltered. He paused, trying to remember the next line, but his mind went blank. "I… I hope you all… um… contribute to society… well…"
A heavy silence fell over the crowd. 🍃
Jade Monroe scratched his head awkwardly. "Forget it! Everyone, stand at attention!" He snapped into a military salute. "Work hard! Make your country and your parents proud. That's all! Dismissed! Go to your classes. Your teacher will have something important and interesting to share today."
The students stood in shock. Their image of a powerful Nexus cultivator shattered. Is this really the Nexus leader? Is he our principal now? This is… weird.
