Chapter 1303: Challenging Trial (8)

A brief exhale even made me feel far more powerful, the slight billow of smoke that wafted from my lips completely charged with even stronger mana than I had access to before; my body was brimming with power that was just so... addicting.
It was like I had taken a drug that caused my Core to go into overdrive, but this was just my natural state whenever I took this form, and that made it all the better to me... this was something I could access whenever and however I wanted it, but I was just... not using it for some reason.
Now that it was out and actually in use, I felt even dumber than before as the power rushed through me, feeling like a second skin that had always been there; it was comfortable and natural for me to be like this, especially when it came with such incredible benefits.
My eyesight sharpened, allowing me to pick up on the runes that had been engraved into some of the warriors armor and read it like it was a book in my hands; my nose picked up on the various races that were present as more and more blood was spilt...
The muskier, more potent scent of the Beastkin was almost overwhelming, while the sweet nectar that the Elven descendants bled made my elongated fangs ache fiercely; the metallic, more common smell of human blood was even giving me hunger pangs, and soon enough I was amongst the fighting and deep within the bloody mire.
We had to hunt specific targets, but now I felt the itch to hunt down those Elves to drain them of that nectar, or to find the juiciest Beastkin out there for a strong drink that would intoxicate me the same way a good brandy would.
The itch was beginning to wear on my mind and it had only been a few seconds, but the moment that my eyes landed on the blue skinned Demoness marching beside me with that giant blade and even larger shield the itch receeded.
There was a far tastier prize to be had for those who had patience, right~?
Even still, I found my gaze homing in on those with open wounds, my eyes locked to the gashes, cuts and scrapes that secreted that delectable red liquid... and it was with these long, wistful stares at these weeping wounds that caused me to find the solution to my newfound 'problem'.
Obviously I had the sweet blood of the Demoness to look forwards to, but I also had the tangy, lemony blood of a certain Dogkin woman waiting for me back outside of the trial space, and considering how much she loved pain...
Normally I would be against the idea, but my new talons and my fangs began to itch for something else as I imagined scratching her perfectly smooth, delicious flesh so that I might extract some of the impossibly addicting nectar that flowed through her veins.
That was what made it easier to ignore all of the blood around me, but even then my hunger still affected how I went about this hunt as I rushed past all of the soldiers battling one another so that I might find my marks quicker than initially expected.

I truly was such a smart and incredibly talented woman, wasn't I~?
My new solution to the problem of Lady Fenyras being such a fine damn snack and her appreciative, hot gaze always lingering on my curves whenever she wanted to take in all of me was a simple solution.
Simply get rid of my lust using Lust Mana and make use of the periods of emptiness to progress forwards in the most unimpeded ways possible~!
In other words, I was ignoring how this older futanari staring at me and drinking in my beauty got me all hot and bothered, alongside how she made me squirm whenever I noticed that she was watching whenever I happened to be in a position that emphasized either my bust or my butt.
It was honestly angering me how terribly my body wanted to work against me, but with the reminder that Lust Mana could take just as much as it could give... that anger was redirected into something more productive, namely draining all of my desires and voiding it out completely so that I could function normally.
The way I would warm up whenever I noticed her staring pissed me off, and I was partially convinced she was doing it on purpose now to anger me since she always grinned and told me she liked what she saw, harassing me further for her own amusement.
But when she noticed I wasn't blushing or reacting as much she just got curious, eventually figuring out that I was using a Fiend's magic to help myself overcome this and giving me a neutral gaze that was far too... out of character for me to ignore.
And yet she said nothing at all about it, just staring at me - at my face and not at my body - before leaving me alone, allowing me to take care of it as we continued to check the tunnels and surrounding area.
On that front we had discovered practically nothing of note, with the only semi intriguing yet also useless piece of information being that many of the monsters were beginning to get curious, meaning that the amniotic fluid was decaying enough to remove the cloying atmosphere that had kept them away.
So we were able to bring down a meaty jaguar lizard hybrid that was guaranteed to keep us fed for at least a week, and it was during me cooking that monster and preparing dinner to be something more than just a course of grilled meat that we discovered something interesting.
After that monster had been killed, skinned and butchered there was a red glow on the horizon that lazily soared into the air, like it was beckoning for us to come and seek it out; after satiating our hunger we did so, and with the time ticking by I was able to think of a few different reasons for that glow to appear... first amongst those being the death of that monster.
We had hunted it down, after all, and now suddenly there was something changing amongst the trial?
That was convenient, and if this was what the trial amounted to I would be far happier to take a reduced reward if it meant leaving this place a little earlier... though I imagine my companion would argue for us to stay and get the best result possible.
