My Hero Academia: Nightmare Mode

Chapter 17: Sparky

The classroom buzzed with low chatter as everyone enjoyed the freedom Aizawa had so generously granted them. Kikidori sat at his desk, flipping through a book in an effort to drown out the noise. He wasn't particularly fond of this unsupervised chaos, but it beat a strict lesson plan.

Across the room, Denki Kaminari began to stir. His body twitched slightly as he groaned, rubbing the back of his head where he'd hit the floor after zapping himself. Slowly, he sat up, his face scrunched in confusion as he pieced together what had just happened.

"Man, what hit me…" Denki muttered. Then his eyes landed on Kikidori, who sat unbothered as always, his mismatched eyes locked on his book.

Denki groaned and pointed weakly at him. "You. You used your quirk on me!"

Kikidori didn't look up. "You're lucky I didn't use it longer."

The class snickered at the comment. Denki dragged himself back into his chair, his face a mix of annoyance and amusement. He crossed his arms, staring at Kikidori with mock defiance.

"You know what?" Denki said, leaning forward. "I still think you should date her."

The room fell silent for a moment as everyone processed Denki's words. Then all at once, the room erupted into laughter.

"Denki, you're an idiot," Jiro said, shaking her head.

Kirishima laughed so hard he nearly fell out of his chair. "Man, Denki, you really don't know when to quit, do you?"

Mina clapped her hands together, her eyes sparkling. "Oh my gosh, he's right, though! You *should* date her, Kikidori!"

Kikidori, still trying to ignore them, took a deep breath. He thought about responding but realized it would only fuel the chaos. So instead, in an uncharacteristic moment of frustration, he let out a long sigh and slammed his forehead against his desk.

The class froze, staring at him in disbelief. For a moment, no one said anything. Then, all at once, the room erupted into laughter again—louder this time.

"That's the funniest thing I've ever seen him do!" Sero said, clutching his sides.

Mina was practically in tears. "Kikidori, are you okay? I didn't know you could be *funny*!"

Even Bakugo, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, let out a small chuckle before catching himself. He quickly crossed his arms and scowled. "Tch. Idiots."

Kikidori lifted his head slightly, his mismatched eyes glaring at Denki. "Are you *done*?"

Denki smirked, unfazed by Kikidori's glare. "Not even close. You should thank me—I'm keeping things interesting."

"Interesting," Kikidori repeated dryly, leaning back in his chair. "That's one word for it."

"Come on, Kikidori," Mina said, leaning across her desk. "What's the big deal? It's just one little date! What's the worst that could happen?"

Kikidori gave her a blank stare. "The worst that could happen is exactly what you're imagining."

Mina gasped dramatically. "Are you saying I'm imagining you and Toga holding hands and skipping through a field of flowers? Because that would be *adorable*!"

The class roared with laughter again, and Kikidori pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering something under his breath.

"Alright, enough," Bakugo snapped, slamming his hands on his desk. "You idiots are giving me a headache."

The room quieted down slightly, but the laughter didn't completely die. Denki leaned back in his chair, still grinning from ear to ear.

Kikidori sighed, his mismatched eyes glancing out the window. "This is why I don't talk to people."

Mina smirked. "Oh, come on, Shadow Boy. You know you love us."

Kikidori didn't respond, but the faintest hint of a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
