Chapter 1: Chapter 1 I've Actually Become a Cat?!
Winter had arrived, and in Fengye City, a coastal city near the north, flurries began to fall.
The shiny snowflakes danced in the air like white elves, slowly descending to the ground.
Inside a bun shop, steam billowed out, warm and inviting.
The shop owner was a tall and robust middle-aged man, and beside him worked his wife.
The couple busily catered to their customers' requests, packing buns and collecting money without a moment's pause.
Across from the bun shop, at the mouth of a dirty and old alleyway, sat a grimy yellow-orange cat next to a large trash can.
With its left front paw propping up its head, the cat's gaze revealed a human-like look, pitifully staring at the bun shop opposite.
"Gurgle—"
Lu Zixun swallowed a mouthful of saliva, eyes filled with immense longing as he watched the customers leave with their buns and soy milk.
The car accident and explosion had given him a chance to restart his life, reincarnating on a planet called Blue Star.
However, for some unknown sin, he had been reborn as a stray orange cat wandering the streets.
He was no longer human.
And as a cat, if he didn't make an effort, he reckoned he'd soon kick the bucket.
Because he'd been starving on this street for two days and two nights. If he couldn't find something to eat soon, today's snowfall would likely mean a frozen cat corpse on the street tomorrow.
How could he steal some buns from across the street?
Lu Zixun looked worriedly at the bun shop.
At that moment, he noticed that the shop owner would occasionally lift the pot lid to take out buns. If there were many buns to be taken out, he would place the lid aside.
An idea struck him.
Lu Zixun's cat eyes shimmered coldly, aware that this would be very risky. He might face a severe beating, or even be beaten to death.
But without doing so, he was likely to starve or freeze to death.
It was a matter of life or death either way, so why not take a chance? After all, he had already died once!
With this thought, Lu Zixun stood up, his four soft paws gently stepping on the snowy pavement as he slowly headed toward the bun shop.
"Shoo, shoo, where did this stray cat come from?"
While the shop owner was packing buns for a customer, he saw Lu Zixun approaching and revealed a look of utter disgust.
"Get lost, quick!"
Despite the pitiful appearance of the little stray cat meowing pitifully at his feet.
The shop owner felt no pity, fearful that the stray cat below might snatch away his buns.
Thus, he grabbed a broom nearby and swatted viciously towards Lu Zixun, trying to drive away the skinny stray cat.
"Meow~"
Damn it! Just you wait!
Feeling the air movement above him, Lu Zixun cursed silently.
Agilely dodging the shop owner's attack, he darted to a corner out of sight.
Seeing the stray cat scared off, the shop owner withdrew the broom with satisfaction and turned to the customers with a beaming smile.
A little while later, more people came to buy buns.
The shop owner couldn't smile wide enough, bustling with the sale of his buns, it seemed like business was booming today!
In the corner, Lu Zixun watched intently with a pair of amber cat eyes, his nerves on edge as he fixed his gaze on the bun table.
The opportunity had arrived!
The shop owner picked up a steamer lid, placing it aside and exposing the steaming buns to the air.
Lu Zixun smirked with his cat mouth.
Like a tightly coiled spring suddenly released, he leaped swiftly and nimbly onto the bun table.
Seizing the moment while the shop owner was distracted, he extended his sharp claws towards the shop owner's face and jumped again.
"Whoosh, whoosh—"
"Ah!" the shop owner screamed, his buns dropping as he hastily covered his face.
While the shop owner and his wife were still stunned, Lu Zixun seized the opportunity.
He snatched a bun from the steamer with his mouth and then, with lightning speed, stepped on the remaining buns to bounce off the table and dashed across the street.
"My buns!"
The shop owner finally reacted, looking at the remaining buns marked with black pawprints and bellowing angrily.
Ignoring the blood on his face, he found a thick wooden stick and chased after Lu Zixun.
Lu Zixun, with a bun in his mouth, scampered into the alley, his fur relaxing.
He hadn't intended to ruin the other buns, taking just one would've sufficed—after all, a cat leaves some leeway for future interactions.
But upon seeing him, the shop owner hadn't hesitated to try and knock him dead.
So if that's how it was going to be, your lack of kindness means you can't blame me for not being righteous.
Though I might be a cat now, I'm also a cat that holds serious grudges!
"Host detected, inducing strong emotions in others, anger value off the charts, Superpower System activation commencing…"
"Superpower System activated, Host granted one system lottery opportunity…"
"Detecting object of anger rapidly approaching, anger value off the charts, Host granted one system lottery opportunity…"
Lu Zixun's ears were suddenly filled with an emotionless, mechanical voice, and his heart quivered fiercely.
System?
Or was it the Superpower System?
Lu Zixun felt the sudden voice was especially surreal.
But immediately after, his retinas were greeted by a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie.
"You have two lottery chances, would you like to use them?"
On the screen, there was a spinning wheel.
The wheel was divided into seven even segments of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, each marked only with its color and nothing else.
The system forcefully and straightforwardly compelled Lu Zixun to confirm its existence, it was real.
Subconsciously, in a fog of confusion, Lu Zixun clicked confirm.
The pointer started spinning rapidly on the screen and, after a short while, pointed to the red segment.
"Ding—Congratulations, you have obtained the superpower of Big Baby from the Calabash Brothers, would you like to extract it?"
Lu Zixun dumbfoundedly saw that after the pointer stopped on the red segment, the red segment popped out.
Then it flipped to reveal a card with Big Baby on it.
"Ding—Congratulations, you have obtained the superpower of Big Baby from the Calabash Brothers, would you like to extract it?"
"Attention, if you do not choose to extract within five seconds after the system's second prompt, the drawn reward will automatically be placed into your backpack!"
Lu Zixun quickly came to his senses, accepting the reality that he now possessed the system.
"Extract!"
Straightaway, the card transformed into a golden light and dove into Lu Zixun's body.
A warm current freely roved through his body.
Seconds later, he felt an infinite strength dwelling within him.
"Infinite Strength, able to grow gigantic."
These were the words that sprang to mind after gaining Big Baby's superpower.
At this moment, a voice filled with anger and malice rose from behind Lu Zixun.
"Well, well, you sneaky cat, hiding here and ruining all of my steamed buns— I'll beat you to death!"
The shop owner glared at Lu Zixun in fury, rolling up his sleeves, brandishing a stick, and closing in step by step.
The fur on Lu Zixun's body stood on end in an instant, like needles protruding from his back.
He looked to the side, but this was the end of the alley, it seemed there was no way out.
"You damned cat, what are you looking at? Think you can run? No way to go, eh? Good thing there's no one here, I'll beat you to death, you beast!"
Evil intentions surging, the shop owner blocked the path ahead and raised the stick, thick as his own arm, to crash down on Lu Zixun.
[Author's note: There was actually quite a big controversy over this part of the story.]
[For the continuation of the story about the steamed bun shop owner, please pay attention to Chapter 277, where it is explained.]
Because there was quite a big controversy over the steamed bun shop segment—
So a follow-up was added in the later chapters.
It's a good opportunity to have a proper discussion with everyone—
————————
The changes caused by an incident are mutual.
Both sides may make concessions, but they will also have principles that they stick to.
The steamed bun shop owner went from rejecting and forcibly driving away animals, eventually lowering his guard and gradually starting to accept and feed them.
The Orange Cat Lu Zixun, driven by survival, went from begging to stealing, from scratching the owner, to later reimbursing him, etc.
These are the concessions and changes by both sides.
...But...
The steamed bun shop owner prioritizes his customers;
The Orange Cat Lu Zixun puts survival first;
These principles cannot be changed.
————————
Some say: "The Orange Cat Lu Zixun snatched the buns and scratched the owner first, so it deserves to be beaten to death…"
Others say: "Survival is the instinct of every living thing. Being driven away and beaten after a failed attempt to beg for food, it's inevitable to resort to such measures…"
In fact, both sides are right.
Because everyone interprets a book from different perspectives and stands.
————————
This book isn't some kind of saintly tale.
Neither does it suffer from overflowing sympathy.
[I never anticipated that this segment would become the first battlefield...]
[By the way, shouldn't your focus be on the superpowers? (ಡωಡ)]
