Chapter 72: Great Beasts
After eating, gauging each others' visible strengths, and confirming their alliance—Sett's party and Shining Gold left the restaurant.
They didn't stop in the city streets and walked to the edge of Kemet capital city itself.
At the edge of the city, there was a great wall.
It was so mightily big, Sett felt a sort of reverence at the sight.
This wall was still there in Ehyut when his reign began centuries from now. It kept dangers outside the capital at bay.
Indeed, even great things get eroded by time, but the greater the effort put in to create it, the longer it fought against the current.
The four people climbed the wall through a public staircase.
The top of such walls were great spots to expand the city, and there was a city of its own above there. And it was bustling with people.
In fact, this was one of the most bustling tourist spots in Kemet.
Though this era didn't have much tourism, Sett saw many non-natives among the crowd.
But once they looked around the bustle, Sett and his company didn't linger too long at the city and went near the edge of the majestic wall.
Sett's gaze moved out into the world beyond the walls.
The lands outside were, as expected, a desert.
But unlike normal deserts, this desert area was covered in sprawling sand storms. Chaotic wind made dunes themselves explode and the explosions transformed into dangerous storms and tornadoes.
If a normal person were to walk out of the walls, his entire body would be torn apart in seconds. Even Zainah, who was an Axiom Holder, would not be able to resist such a thing—after all, her body was similar to a normal person's.
"The world outside doesn't look inviting," Zarah said with a gulp. "Is this how all Tombs are?"
"See, this is what I told you about," Shining Gold said with a serious expression, looking at the storms. "The first thing I did after I entered the Tomb was to leave the city, but even I couldn't hold on for too long outside."
"Is there something else hiding within those storms?" Sett asked.
Shining Gold was a bit surprised—he had to enter the Tomb to find that out the hard way.
Did this person have extensive Tomb Raiding experience?
And he seemed knowledgeable.
Gold nodded. "It is indeed much easier to talk with people who know their stuff. Yes, these sandstorms are not simple. There are things hiding inside them—monsters, Tomb entrances, and even mirages."
So there were indeed other Tombs within this Tomb. That was surely where the royals got their Tomb Hearts. Most probably, they might also be created as a figment of the past by the true A-tier Tomb.
In this era, those Tombs must have truly existed.
But… Tombs and mirages aside.
"Monsters?" Sett frowned. "What kind of monsters?"
"The people here call them the Great Beasts," Gold said, "And they are strong animals with powerful bodies. Saber-tooth tigers, mammoths, sand crocodiles, great snakes, hippopotamuses, etc. Not to mention that most of them have Tomb Hearts, too."
"Beasts with Tomb Hearts…" Sett frowned.
This was not one of those impossible to crack Tombs, was it?
The fact that Gods might be involved in this timeline made Sett believe in the possibility.
He feared the possibility, too.
Zainah and Zarah looked at each other, worry evident in their eyes.
They were back in a Tomb after all.
No matter how calm their life here seemed, the undercurrent of death was just ignorred, not forgotten.
Sett walked to the very edge of the wall. "What was the strongest thing you met out there?"
"An Anaconda," Gold said without hesitation. "It nearly killed me, but I escaped using my abilities at the last moment. I've never been more afraid of something in my life. If it wrapped around me a second longer, I would have died."
That was indeed troublesome.
Sett looked at the desert with wariness.
"You are lucky you survived," he said. "Do you know what kind of grip strength a base level anaconda can have?"
"Base level, as in… an anaconda that hasn't eaten a Tomb Heart?"
Sett nodded.
Gold frowned. "Is it stronger than a Tier 1 human Tomb Raiders?"
Sett smirked and looked at Shining Gold. "No, it is stronger than Tier 2 human Tomb Raiders in sheer strength alone. An average 'Sacred' Tier 2 Tomb Raider can exert about 3 tons of force, but an adult Anaconda can exert upto 10 tons of force if they coil around you."
Gold's expression changed.
"And that's when they haven't eaten a Tomb Heart?"
Sett nodded.
Zainah, who understood a bit of the complex maths, felt speechless.
Then what if such a beast ate Tomb Hearts?
It would gain diamond-level density and even more strength!
Sett looked into the storms.
Even as a Tier 2, such beasts would crush humans in a physical combat. In fact, some of those beasts had the ability to crush diamond-dense bodies—even while they themselves were Tier 2—that people like Sett and Gold had.
"Most probably, the one that tried to kill you is such a beast." Sett surmised. "A Tier 2 Anaconda."
That thing would be able to crush Gold's Tier 2 'sacred' level body pretty easily.
That was how much strength it would have, not to mention its own similar durability.
The sheer thought sent chills down Gold's back.
Sett looked at the stormy deserts.
The storm, which was at half the height of the wall, was slowly rising. At some point soon, the storm would rise above the wall. And that should be the point at which the slaughter of the city happens. Sett became a bit contemplative.
If the monsters and storms outside entered the city, it would indeed wreck annihilation.
He said, "I am pretty sure that Anaconda is not one of the nine Guardians, though. Since you mentioned there are other Tomb entrances within this Tomb, it must have entered one of those to find Tomb Hearts."
Since an Anaconda was strong even at its base level, it must have crushed Tombs at the level of D-tier.
Even Sett didn't want to encounter a Tier 2 Anaconda.
That thing would probably find his body, as dense as diamonds, tasty.
Sett sighed. "That also means the Guardians of this Tomb must be much stronger than even that thing. If I am right, this is an A-tier Tomb."
Generally speaking, Tomb Raiders could never battle the Great Beasts of their equal level. After all, Tomb Heart enhanced humans alone were so supernaturally strong, and humans were a physically weaker species. Of course, as a result, Great Beasts like Anaconda, which already had abundant strength would be much more deadly.
Man, Sett hated Tombs with monsters like those.
Just as they were contemplating, someone shouted from the side: "Eh, hey isn't that the cutie I met yesterday? HEY, hey look!!"
