Chapter 6
Chapter 6. Meeting a Big Fox in a Dream (2)
Just returning to the tent along that dark path, trembling and relying on the light of an LED lantern, was exhausting enough. How bright the night roads were on the way home from work!
When I got back to the tent, the bonfire had already died down to just embers glowing red. I quickly tidied up and slipped into my sleeping bag.

[Hey, hey, I’ve been waiting for you.]
“Huh!?”
Turning my gaze toward the familiar voice, I saw a fox sitting there, waiting for me. The surroundings were, as expected, that shrine in the forest again.
It seemed I had fallen asleep right after that and was now back in the dream.
“Ah, hello.”
[Hmm, so, have you decided to buy it?]
“Huh?”
[The mountain, the mountain.]
“Uh, well, what kind of mountain are we talking about? I can’t decide without knowing that. And if it’s too inconvenient, managing it would be a hassle. I’m just an office worker, you know.”
[Hmm, how much inconvenience are you talking about?]
Being asked that, I decided to answer honestly.
“First, is there a proper place to live? Like a cabin? Bathroom, toilet, running water, electricity, gas? And shopping too. At least having a convenience store nearby would be nice.”
[……Nope.]
“Well, I figured as much, since it’s in the mountains. I guess there’s no internet either, right?”
[……That’s right.]
“Honestly, living in a place like that would be a bit too much for me.”
Unless it’s at least comparable to my current lifestyle, I don’t want to live in the mountains. Even if it means I could live a slow life.
[O-okay! W-what if there were no inconveniences in living there?]
“Hmm, what kind of mountain is it? If it’s a deep mountain with bears and wild boars, that’s scary.”
[Grr, well, it’s deep in nature, so I can’t say they won’t appear.]
“Ehh, that makes it even more impossible.”
Are you expecting me to become a hunter or something?
Joining something like a hunting association is way beyond me.
[Hmm, well, but I really need your help.]
“No, no, it’s impossible.”
[Please, just think about it.]
I never thought I’d see a fox bowing to me, even if it’s just a dream. But that doesn’t mean I can easily accept such a request.
[Look, this mountain, isn’t it beautiful?]
A round mirror appeared in front of me, showing a vast mountain inside. It’s indeed beautiful, but how much of it are we talking about? It looks pretty huge.
[See? See? It’s a beautiful mountain, right? Please~]
“No way~”
And so, I ended up having a dream where the fox clung to me endlessly.
