Modern Family
---
Scene: Dunphy House – The Great Magician Phil Dunphy
(Phil stands in the living room, dressed in a cheap magician's cape, holding a deck of cards. The family sits on the couch, reluctantly watching.)
Phil: (Dramatic.) "Ladies and gentlemen… prepare to be amazed! For my first trick…" (Pauses, pulling out a deck of cards.) "I will make a card disappear."
(He shuffles awkwardly—a few cards fall to the floor. Claire sighs, Alex rolls her eyes, and Luke is actually interested.)
Luke: (Excited.) "Is it gonna explode?!"
Phil: (Proudly.) "No! But watch closely." (Holds up a card, waves his hands mysteriously, then quickly shoves the card up his sleeve. He grins, then reveals his empty hands.) "Gone!"
(Silence.)
Claire: (Deadpan.) "Phil. We can see the card in your sleeve."
(Phil glances down. The corner of the card is peeking out. He quickly shakes his arm, and the card falls to the floor.)
Phil: (Recovering.) "That was a test."
(Cut to Claire's talking-head interview.)
Claire: (Sighing.) "Phil has a gift. Just… not the one he thinks."
(Cut back to the living room. Phil tries again, this time pulling a fake thumb out of his pocket.)
Alex: (Squinting.) "Why do you have two thumbs?"
Phil: (Glaring.) "Alex. Please. Let me work."
(Phil dramatically waves his hands. The fake thumb falls off.)
Haley: (Laughing.) "Dad, just… stop."
Luke: (Still impressed.) "But what about the rabbit?!"
(Claire stands up.)
Claire: (Firmly.) "Okay. Magic time is over."
(Phil pouts as Claire drags him out of frame.)
(Cut to Phil's talking-head interview.)
Phil: (Defensive.) "Do you know who else failed their first tricks? Houdini. David Blaine. Every great magician." (Pauses.) "...But mostly me."

Scene: School – Elliot's Market Collapse
(Cut to Elliot at school, sitting at his lunch table. He's casually checking his phone. His app is booming—students are selling homework notes, trading answers like stocks. He's proud.)
(Cut to Elliot's talking-head interview.)
Elliot: (Shrugs.) "Everything was perfect. A thriving student economy—supply and demand in action." (Pauses.) "Then the crash happened."
(Back to lunch. A crowd of students is now yelling at Elliot.)
Angry Student #1: (Holding phone.) "Dude! Someone sold me a fake history essay!"
Angry Student #2: (Frustrated.) "I paid five bucks for science notes and got a picture of a cat!"
(Elliot scrolls through the app and notices the problem—some genius started scamming students.)
Elliot: (Under his breath.) "Crap."
(Cut to Elliot's talking-head interview.)
Elliot: (Deadpan.) "So, turns out… unregulated markets? Not great."
(Back to lunch. Elliot stands on a chair.)
Elliot: (Loudly.) "People! I hear you! As CEO of this app, I promise to fix the issue!"
(Principal Johnson suddenly appears.)
Principal Johnson: (Sternly.) "Elliot. Office. Now."
(Cut to Elliot's talking-head interview.)
Elliot: (Sighs.) "This is how Mark Zuckerberg probably felt before Congress."

Scene: Jay & Gloria's House – Manny's Cool Guy Crisis
(Cut to Jay in the kitchen, pouring coffee. Manny enters, wearing sunglasses indoors.)
Jay: (Frowning.) "What's with the shades? You robbing a bank?"
Manny: (Coolly.) "It's called mystique, Jay."
(Jay stares at him. Gloria walks in.)
Gloria: (Excited.) "Manny! Are you ready for your big poetry reading?"
Manny: (Confident.) "No, Mother. Poetry is for the weak. I am cool now." (Leans against the counter, trying to look suave.)
(He slips, nearly falls.)
(Cut to Jay's talking-head interview.)
Jay: (Shrugging.) "I told him to be cool. I didn't tell him to turn into a cartoon character."
---
Scene: Dunphy House – Claire's Meltdown
(Back at the Dunphys, Claire is stressed about the upcoming charity event.)
Claire: (Pacing.) "Okay. We need order. Phil, no magic. Kids, no fights. Haley, no drama."
Haley: (Offended.) "Why do I get singled out?!"
Alex: (Deadpan.) "Because you are drama."
Haley: (Scoffing.) "Oh, please—" (Pauses, checking phone.) "Wait. Dylan just texted something weird."
Claire: (Tensing.) "Define weird."
(Cut to Haley's talking-head interview.)
Haley: (Reading text.) "'We need to talk.'" (Pauses.) "That's basically a breakup text, right?"
(Cut to Alex's talking-head interview.)
Alex: (Shrugs.) "It's either a breakup text… or he needs help with basic spelling."
(Cut back to the living room.)
Claire: (Relieved.) "Sweetheart, maybe it's just a misunderstanding."
Haley: (Dramatic.) "Or maybe it's the end of my entire relationship."
*(She dramatically flops onto the couch.)
(Cut to Luke's talking-head interview.)
Luke: (Casually.) "I just came in here for a snack."
---
Scene: Elliot's Pov – The CEO Speech
(Cut to Elliot sitting across from Principal Johnson in the office. He's thinking hard.)
Principal Johnson: (Sternly.) "Elliot. You cannot sell homework."
Elliot: (Confidently.) "I can't or I shouldn't?"
Principal Johnson: (Glaring.) "Both."
(Elliot sighs, nodding. He types into his phone.)
(Cut to Elliot's talking-head interview.)
Elliot: (Shrugging.) "Fine. I shut the app down. The market collapsed, people lost money… I got threats over fake calculus notes." (Pauses.) "Just like real life."
