Chapter 109 Court of Judgment's Good Intentions_2
"You don't have to be too nervous. In fact, for Songstresses, the Federation has always provided special protection and tolerance. If you'd already made your debut, the scene we just witnessed probably wouldn't have occurred."
"We will deal with this incident as quickly as possible and wrap it up without disrupting your Academy life. The investigation into the Chaos Phantoms will be taken over by us afterward."
"Mm-hmm, I understand, thank you, Uncle Chimera." She understood the warning in his words, hoping she wouldn't get deeply involved in events related to the Chaos Phantoms.
"That's good." It was always him interrogating others; this kind of gentle persuasion was rare for Chimera to do, but fortunately, the black-haired girl today was very understanding and did not make it difficult for him.
"As for the course of events, we have already clearly understood from the testimonies of others and the site's surveillance. In another ten minutes, you'll be able to regain your freedom."
"Won't there be a check?" The girl was curious. Normally, those who might have been exposed to Chaos Phantoms would be checked for contamination.
"There will be a check, but your situation is quite special, so we'll be more cautious." Chimera also weighed his words, considering the girl's talent and her potential future, everything had to be done with caution.
"Just wait a bit longer, someone will take you for the check soon, and then you'll be released from detention."
Afterward, the two discussed some lighter topics, such as what books the girl was reading lately and what style of music she liked, until a woman with a mature figure walked in.
"Good evening, Hexia, and Chief Chimera." She greeted them, then sat down next to Chimera.
"This is Aimeranda, a colleague from the Central Tribunal. She will take you for the check later." Chimera introduced the woman with teal spiral-tipped hair sitting beside him. She wore the same deep blue uniform, with the cobalt blue star tear insignia on her collar.
"Hello."
She nodded, her eyes curiously sizing up the black-haired girl across from her. Under her gaze, Tilan had the strange illusion that the other had thoroughly scrutinized her body measurements.
With introductions out of the way, Chimera had Aimeranda take Tilan for the check, and they both left the room.
On the way, they were scanned by various devices, then went through identity verification, and finally sat down in a rather comfortable conversation room, which was adorned with white and light pink plants and flowers and an aquarium with small fish swimming about.
"Have a seat for a while, the results will be out soon." Aimeranda handed the girl a can of cola and then sat opposite her.
"Thank you." The girl peeled open the cola can, and a slightly cool vapor wafted out.
Holding the cola and savoring it finely, Tilan took small sips, her demeanor exuding a hint of cuteness.
"What a lovable child you are," Aimeranda remarked from across, then leaned back in the sofa, abandoning the businesslike persona she had maintained in the interrogation room.
"If it weren't for your file, it would be hard to believe you've done so many astonishing things at your age."
"What things?" Tilan was curious to know what kind of image and existence she represented in the eyes of these adults.
"Many things, like how you've escaped death twice, fought a great battle against your uncle in Jielou City, and caused a big stir in Lebyon not long ago. Recently, you encountered this incident too. Let me think, when I was in high school, I was still dating the handsome guys in class, haha." She took a sip of her cola and then laughed again.
"You've probably been very curious about what the Federal Court of Judgment is really like. Most people are actually a little scared, but we are not unfeeling machines. We also relax occasionally; it's just that the demeanor we maintain at work is what most people see. And due to confidentiality issues, we can't enter certain places at will, so gradually we've become estranged from ordinary people." Aimeranda shared some of her life experiences.
"When are you planning to make your debut, Tilan? I'm actually quite curious about what songs you'll sing. Even within the Court of Judgment, we only have three recordings of your voice."
"Ugh, there are still three songs left?" The girl herself didn't know when she had sung three songs.
"Yes, the first time was when you hummed in 'Dream of Glazed Glass', the second was when you sang softly with everyone during a temporary band practice at Yuanting Academy, but only the last time, the night you all started your trials, was more formal."
"You all dig up information so thoroughly." The girl felt like she had no secrets left.
"Don't worry, we'll keep these things confidential for you, like the way you used to cry when you were little~" Aimeranda said with a laugh.
"Childhood stuff doesn't matter." The girl shook her head gently and hugged her cola, reminiscing about the past.
"As for the future, I'm afraid there might be many issues where I'll need your help." Her secrets were many, and sometimes she worried they would be exposed.
"Speaking of which, do you know about the Exemption Law?" Aimeranda brought up an unfamiliar term. Continue your journey with My Virtual Library Empire
"Not sure." She shook her head honestly.
"It means people with special identities and professions can apply to shield certain investigations and surveillance, and they don't have to answer some questions."
"The best way to keep a secret is not to lock the data in a top-secret vault but to let as few people know about it as possible."
"Since you're not yet famous and haven't debuted, you can't apply now, but if you become a Moon Class Songstress in the future, you'll be able to apply for this law, avoiding a lot of hassle and also protecting your personal safety and privacy."
"For your actions, as long as they're not obviously illegal, the Court of Judgment and other personnel won't ask for the reasons anymore, nor will they conduct comprehensive surveillance on you. You'll also have the exemption privilege to avoid some unnecessary inspections and leave no records in the database."
"Would such privileges bring about questions and resentment from others?" The girl was curious.
"A bit, but it's necessary. For instance, information about the federal government's top leaders won't be recorded in the database, as it could be dangerous and give potential terrorists a chance."
"By the same token, some critical positions, special professions that require privacy, will also have certain exemptions and won't be recorded in the database."
"Because monitoring this information could be more dangerous than it's worth, we simply stop monitoring and instead offer some freedom of privacy and confidentiality."
"However, you need a good record of credibility to apply for such exemption rights; otherwise, you can't apply."
Afterward, Aimeranda explained how they work on a daily basis, how to avoid potential information leaks in life, and how to protect oneself when questioned by law enforcement officers, reminiscent of a big grey wolf teaching a little white rabbit how to survive among other beasts.
After listening carefully, the girl nodded her head in gratitude, yet she was also curious and puzzled.
"Why tell me all this? Won't this obviously make me very troublesome?"
"Growing strong is good, especially for a kind child like you. Although we are just, it doesn't mean all law enforcement officers in the federation are just. You need to learn to protect yourself, which will also give us peace of mind," Aimeranda explained.
"Alright, it's getting late, and since the results are out, I won't detain you any longer. Let's meet next time in South First District. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I've recently been looking after a girl, she's about your age, you might become good friends in the future."
After speaking, Aimeranda stood up and walked Tilan out of the interview room. As they moved outside, they were still in Northern Second District. The wilderness was bustling with shuttles taking off and landing, and the usually desolate Gobi had never been as lively as today.
