MHA Dungeon Master

Chapter 45: The Mastermind

After what felt like a long and stressful journey, the car Touma was driving finally arrived at the hospital parking area. As the car came to a complete stop, Himaru was the first to open the door and get out. The cold night air greeted him, but it couldn't cool down the burning anxiety in his heart.

Himaru's clone surveyed the surrounding parking area, which appeared quiet and deserted, as if it too sensed the sorrow they carried. He saw Himaru and Emilia get out of the car with equally anxious expressions. Without a word, they hurried towards the hospital entrance, which glowed brightly in the darkness of the night.

Upon arriving at the reception desk, Emilia mustered her courage to inquire about the operating room where Twice was being treated. The hospital receptionist, a middle-aged woman with a tired yet friendly face, immediately checked the computer in front of her. The sound of keyboard typing echoed loudly in the silence; each second felt like an eternity to Himaru and the others.

"Operating Room, 3rd Floor, Room 305," the hospital receptionist announced after checking the computer, her voice breaking the tense silence. This brief piece of information was like an oasis in the desert for them; at least they now knew where to go.

Without wasting another second, Touma, Himaru, Emilia, and Himaru's clone rushed towards the elevator located not far from the reception desk. They squeezed into the elevator, frantically pressing the number 3 button. The elevator doors closed slowly, confining them in a metal box that moved upwards at a snail's pace.

They hoped Twice would survive this critical period, hoping their friend and loyal family employee would be alright. Arriving in front of operating room 305 on the third floor, they were met with a scene that made their hearts sink even further. Both of their parents sat with tense faces in the waiting room, their shoulders slumped wearily.

Himaru's father was bowed deeply, his hands clasped tightly together, while Himaru's mother stared blankly ahead, tears welling up in her eyes. Seeing his parents looking so fragile and sad, Himaru's heart felt even more torn. He knew how much his parents cared for Twice, who they considered as family.

However, it wasn't just their parents there. Besides Himaru's father and mother, there were several other figures who also seemed anxiously waiting in the waiting chairs. Their presence was quite surprising and made Himaru slightly confused.

"Ryuko-nee? Fuyumi-nee?" Emilia was the first to notice the presence of these familiar figures, her voice slightly choked with surprise.

Himaru and his clone followed Emilia's gaze and were slightly taken aback. Among the people waiting in the waiting room, they saw the Dragon Hero Ryukyu, Ryuko Tatsuma, along with Endeavor's daughter, Todoroki Fuyumi. And most surprisingly, next to Fuyumi, sat the Number Two Hero, Endeavor.

"Ryuko-nee, Fuyumi-nee, Endeavor-san?" Himaru greeted, a little bewildered, momentarily forgetting his anxiety for the sudden curiosity that arose. "What are you… doing here?" The question slipped out of his lips before he could even think about it.

Ryuko Tatsuma turned her head, her usually cheerful and smiling face now looking more serious than usual. Her eyes met Himaru's with a look of concern. "Himaru-kun, Emilia-chan, you've arrived," Ryuko said with a sympathetic tone, yet still trying to offer a warm smile. "I heard the news about the attack on your restaurant. I came straight here as soon as I found out."

Ryuko explained that her newly established hero agency was located not far from Himaru's family's new restaurant, so news of the attack quickly reached her ears. As a hero who upholds justice and friendship, Ryuko felt compelled to offer moral support to the Himaru family during their misfortune.

The restaurant was indeed deliberately built near Ryuko-nee's office area, because Himaru was confident that Ryuko-nee would soon become a quite famous hero. He reasoned that if Ryuko-nee was seen visiting the restaurant often, it would also become famous. This was, according to Himaru, a smart business strategy.

And Ryuko-nee didn't mind this arrangement, because compared to Himaru's help in allowing her to enter his dungeon and train for an opportunity to become stronger, this was a trivial matter. Ryuko felt deeply indebted to Himaru for the opportunity he had given her to improve her strength.

Fuyumi nodded softly, her gentle and graceful face also filled with worry. "I came with Ryuko-san after hearing the news. I'm very worried about Uncle and Aunt's condition, and also Twice-san." Fuyumi had always had a good relationship with the Himaru family, especially after graduating from UA High School, she immediately joined Ryuko-nee's agency and that was why she was here upon hearing the bad news that befell them.

The presence of Ryuko and Fuyumi was quite understandable to Himaru. However, Endeavor's presence there made him a bit curious. 'Why is Endeavor here too?' Himaru thought to himself. 'Does this have something to do with Fuyumi-nee?' He stared at Endeavor with a probing gaze, trying to find answers to his questions.

However, Himaru held back his curiosity for the time being. His top priority at the moment was the condition of his parents and Twice. He immediately approached his parents, greeting them anxiously. "Father, Mother, you're not hurt, are you?" Himaru asked, his eyes carefully examining his parents' bodies, making sure no injuries or bruises were missed. He felt very guilty for not being there to protect his parents when that terrible incident happened.

Himaru's father smiled faintly, trying to reassure his children even though his own heart was in tremendous anxiety. "We're fine, Himaru. Don't worry. Touma protected us well." Himaru's father patted Himaru's shoulder gently, trying to channel calm and strength to his son.

Himaru's mother nodded, reinforcing her husband's words. "Yes, we're alright. We're actually more worried about Jin-kun's condition." Himaru's mother's eyes looked teary, showing how worried she was about Twice. She already considered Twice like family, and imagining Twice seriously injured broke her heart.

Himaru sighed in relief hearing his parents were alright. At least he didn't have to add to his anxiety by thinking about his parents' safety. "How long has Jin-san's operation been going on, Father?" he asked, pointing towards the operating room door which was still tightly closed. The red light above the door was still on, indicating the operation was still in progress.

As if answering Himaru's question, the red light above the operating room door suddenly went off, and the room door opened slowly. A doctor and several assistant nurses emerged from the operating room with tired but relieved faces. The sound of medical equipment trolley wheels being pushed out of the room broke the silence.

Himaru's father immediately got up from his seat and approached the doctor with hurried steps. "Doctor, how is Jin-kun? Was the operation… successful?" Himaru's father asked with an anxious and hopeful tone, his voice slightly trembling with tension. He really hoped the doctor would give good news about Twice's condition.

The doctor smiled faintly, giving an answer that made everyone in the waiting room breathe a sigh of relief. The sincere smile on the doctor's face was like the sun appearing after a storm, warming and calming their anxious hearts. "The operation went smoothly, Sir. The patient has passed the critical period. His condition is stable now. Now we just have to wait for the patient to regain consciousness."

"Thank goodness…" Himaru's mother sighed in relief. She covered her face with both hands, expressing her gratitude and relief. Emilia and Himaru's clone also exchanged glances; the tension and worry that had been gripping their hearts slowly disappeared, replaced by gratitude and relief that filled their chests.

In that moment of relief, Himaru suddenly realized something. 'Having someone with a healing quirk by our side would be very useful in situations like this,' Himaru thought fleetingly, his eyes unconsciously glancing towards the operating room door. However, he quickly dismissed the thought. 'It's impossible for me to get a healing hero of Recovery Girl's caliber for my family in such a short time.'

After the doctor left to give a more detailed explanation to Himaru's father regarding Twice's condition and further treatment steps, the atmosphere in the waiting room became slightly more relaxed. Some people started talking in calmer tones. Himaru was reminded again of Endeavor's presence, which was still a mystery to him. He decided to ask the number two hero again.

"Uncle…," Himaru greeted Endeavor cynically as usual, although this time his cynical tone was slightly reduced because he felt a bit grateful for Endeavor's presence there. "Why are you here?"

Endeavor turned to Himaru, his sharp and intimidating gaze as if facing his daughter's kidnapper. However, this time the gaze wasn't as harsh as usual. "I'm visiting Fuyumi. I happen to be on leave from hero work. When I heard the news about the attack on your restaurant, Fuyumi was very worried, so I came with her to accompany her here." Endeavor briefly explained the reason for his presence at the hospital.

"Touya is filling in for me temporarily," Endeavor continued with a proud tone, a slight smile appearing on his lips. "With his blue flames, he can certainly replace my role well. There's nothing to worry about." Endeavor seemed confident in his eldest son's abilities. He was always proud of Touya, who had managed to become a great professional hero.

Just for additional information, currently Todoroki Touya, Endeavor's eldest son, has indeed become a quite famous professional hero with the hero name "Skyfire". He inherited the fire quirk from his father, but with a unique blue flame color that was stronger, even hotter than Endeavor's flames.

And more importantly, Touya is currently in a fairly serious romantic relationship with the female hero 'Burnin'. This fact automatically eliminated Burnin from Himaru clone's 'recruitment' target list. 'Too bad,' Himaru Clone thought fleetingly, with a slightly regretful tone, 'Burnin was quite interesting too.'

Several days passed, Twice finally regained consciousness from his coma. This good news was greeted with joy by the entire Himaru family. They all felt very grateful and happy to hear Twice was conscious and in stable condition. Without delay, they immediately visited Twice in the hospital, bringing fruits and Twice's favorite food.

"Jin-kun! Thank goodness you're awake!" Himaru's mother hugged Twice tightly, tears of happiness dripping onto her cheeks, soaking Twice's hospital gown. She hugged Twice with affection, like a mother embracing her long-lost child.

"I'm sorry, Madam, Sir, for making you worry," Twice said in a weak voice, but a relieved and happy smile was clearly visible on his pale face. "I'm glad I could protect you." Twice felt very touched and proud to be able to protect the Himaru family, even though he herself had to be seriously injured.

"It's not your fault, Jin-kun," Himaru's father patted Twice's shoulder proudly, giving encouragement and support to his loyal employee. "You did your best. We are very grateful to you." Himaru's father felt deeply indebted to Twice for his courage and sacrifice.

Emilia and Himaru also cheered Twice on, offering words of support and hope that Twice would recover soon and be able to resume his activities as usual. They both loved Twice very much as a friend and family member.

Twice, lying weakly in his hospital bed, felt touched and happy to see the Himaru family's attention and affection for his. He felt that his sacrifice was not in vain; He felt accepted and valued as part of this family. The warmth and affection of the Himaru family gave his the strength to recover quickly and regain his spirits.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Touma and her clones continued to work hard investigating the mastermind behind the restaurant attack. They didn't want this incident to happen again, and they were determined to make the perpetrators receive a fitting response. They spread out to various parts of the city, gathering information from various sources, from CCTV recordings, police reports, to their network of underground informants. Touma used all available resources to uncover the truth.

Several days passed since Twice regained consciousness, and the atmosphere at the Himaru family home slowly returned to normal, although anxiety still occasionally haunted their minds. Twice was still in recovery at the hospital, but his condition continued to improve every day, making the Himaru family feel very relieved and grateful. Meanwhile, Touma and her clones continued to work tirelessly to uncover the perpetrators behind the restaurant attack.

After an intensive investigation for a full month, Touma finally managed to gather all the necessary evidence and uncover the identity of the real culprit. With this important information in hand, Touma felt it was time to report the results of her investigation to Himaru.

However, this time, Touma chose to report privately and secretly, only to Himaru and his clone. She felt that the information she was about to convey might be too sensitive or dangerous to discuss in front of the entire family, especially in front of Himaru's parents who were still traumatized by the attack incident.

On a quiet night, after dinner was finished and all family members began to rest in their respective rooms, Touma knocked on Himaru's bedroom door gently. She made sure no one else was around who could overhear their conversation.

From inside the room, Himaru's voice was heard inviting Touma to come in. "Enter."

Touma opened the door and entered Himaru's room. She saw Himaru sitting at his desk, looking serious as he read a thick book. Himaru's clone sat in a chair near the window, staring blankly outside with a difficult-to-read facial expression. Himaru's room looked neat and clean, with dominant blue and white color nuances. The atmosphere inside the room felt calm and private, suitable for a secret conversation.

Touma closed the bedroom door carefully, ensuring they had complete privacy. She then walked closer to Himaru's desk and stood upright in front of Himaru and his clone. "Himaru-sama," Touma greeted respectfully, "I have come to report the results of my investigation regarding the restaurant attack."

Himaru closed his book and looked at Touma with a serious gaze. Himaru's clone also turned his head, giving his full attention to Touma. They both knew that Touma's report was very important and would determine the next steps they would take.

"Please, Touma," Himaru said in a low but firm voice. "We are ready to listen." He gestured for Touma to begin her report immediately.

Touma nodded and pulled out a folder from inside her jacket. She opened the folder and began to explain in detail the results of her investigation. "After an in-depth and thorough investigation, I have managed to identify the mastermind behind the attack on our restaurant. The culprit is… another restaurant businessman named Tanaka Kenji."

Himaru frowned, showing that he didn't recognize the name. "Tanaka Kenji? Who is he? What restaurant does he own?" Himaru asked with a curious tone.

"Tanaka Kenji is the owner of a traditional Japanese restaurant called 'Sakura Garden'," Touma replied. "His restaurant is quite famous in this city, having been established for a long time, but lately his business has been experiencing a significant decline. Meanwhile, Himaru-sama's family restaurant… has grown rapidly in a short time, even becoming one of the most popular restaurants in the city." Touma explained Tanaka Kenji's background and his restaurant, providing clear context regarding the business rivalry that had occurred.

"Tanaka Kenji felt very envious and resentful of the success of our restaurant," Touma continued in a cold voice. "He saw our restaurant as a direct threat to his declining business. That envy and resentment then turned into burning hatred, and drove him to take this reckless and heinous action. He wanted to destroy our restaurant and harm Himaru-sama's family." Touma's tone became firmer and angrier as she explained the perpetrator's motive.

Himaru's clone interjected in a flat but piercing voice. "So, the reason is just because of foolish envy? Is a criminal's motive really that low?" Himaru's clone seemed to greatly despise Tanaka Kenji's motive, which he considered very petty and classless.

"Unfortunately, yes, that's right," Touma replied in a flat tone. "Tanaka Kenji's motive is indeed that trivial. Envy and arrogance are a dangerous combination, and can drive someone to do foolish and detrimental actions." Touma explained that crime often stemmed from very simple and human motives, such as envy and arrogance.

Himaru listened to Touma's explanation carefully, his jaw tightening and his eyes flashing with suppressed anger. He didn't expect that the reason behind the attack on their restaurant was so trivial and absurd.

Himaru and his clone exchanged glances, as if communicating wordlessly. They both had the same thoughts on how to deal with Tanaka Kenji. The atmosphere in Himaru's room became increasingly tense and filled with an unspoken aura of threat. The three of them, in secrecy, began to plan a fitting retaliation for Tanaka Kenji, the petty restaurant businessman who dared to disturb the Himaru family.
