Chapter 60: Bitten by a Spider, Induction Entanglement! The Feeling of Electric Shock!

"Ghost Spider, can I ask you something?"

Cindy took a step closer to Gwen.

She had to figure this out. Ghost Spider was clearly a girl—so why was there this strange attraction?

"Hey, Cindy... huh?"

Gwen's voice faltered as an odd feeling swept over her.

She suddenly felt that Cindy was warm, familiar, and… somehow magnetic.

A rush of bizarre thoughts surged through her mind—

Divorce? No, not yet… But Cindy… maybe we could do something fun together… something crazy…

What am I thinking?!

Gwen quickly pushed down the inappropriate images flickering through her mind and tried to stay composed.

"What do you want to ask?" she managed.

Cindy reached out her slender hand to Gwen, as if wanting to touch her. "Have you ever been bitten by a spider?"

Gwen extended her hand as well. "You too…?"

Their fingers drew closer, inch by inch—until their index fingers touched.

Even through their battle suits, a tingling jolt coursed through their hands.

"What… was that?"

Gwen's eyes widened in alarm. She instinctively tried to pull her hand back.

She had only ever felt that kind of electric shock with Ethan Lee—certainly not with anyone else, let alone another girl!

Cindy, however, smiled with surprise.

She was relieved—finally, someone else felt it too.

She interlaced her fingers with Gwen's and asked softly, "You feel it too, right?"

"Ah… ahh… I—I…"

The overwhelming sensation left Gwen flustered and speechless.

How could something like this be happening?

"What are you two doing?"

Jessica, who had been watching from the side, raised an eyebrow.

"When did you get this close?"

To anyone else watching, Cindy and Gwen's hand-holding would've seemed like the start of a romantic drama.

---

It was unclear whether it was the suits dulling the sensation or the fact that they were both female, but…

The mutual attraction between Cindy and Gwen wasn't as strong as what Gwen had experienced with Ethan.

After a few more seconds, they finally let go.

"What's going on?"

Gwen asked with suspicion. "Is this some kind of hypnosis?"

"No," Cindy replied, shaking her head. "It's probably because we were bitten by the same spider."

It made sense.

Cindy recalled the spider that had bitten her… That incredible spider bit not just her, but clearly others too.

What she didn't know was that Ethan Lee's unusually strong reaction to Gwen wasn't just about spider powers—

His system had copied Gwen's abilities directly, creating a unique connection between them.

"Huh? Where are those two?"

Cindy suddenly looked around.

Hawkeye and Doctor Octopus had disappeared.

As it turned out, when Otto saw the arrival of Ghost Spider and another hero in battle suits—plus Cindy, who had spider-like abilities—

He panicked, realizing he might get ganged up on. So, he tactically retreated.

And once Doctor Octopus left, Hawkeye had no reason to stick around either.

His job was reconnaissance—identify individuals with Ghost Spider–like powers and report them.

Actual combat or confrontation would be someone else's problem. Probably Barbara's.

---

"Hah—!"

Barbara, lounging in the S.H.I.E.L.D. club lounge, suddenly sneezed.

"Ugh, I've got a bad feeling… Like the Bureau's about to dump another assignment on me…"

---

Meanwhile, Hawkeye contacted the strike team:

[Target has retreated. Melinda, did you apprehend anyone?]

[Barton, there was a hiccup. Another suspect just showed up…]

A few minutes earlier—

"Civet Cat" Walter had taken advantage of the chaos during the Otto incident to escape from the precinct.

Agile and slippery, he managed to dodge both police officers and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

When I make it back, I'll get Felicia and the others out of here. We'll leave the country and start fresh...

He ran frantically, already planning how to protect his family.

Felicia must be worried sick. My poor daughter… please don't cry over me.

But just as he turned into a dark alley—

A swift figure leapt from above.

Melinda landed mid-air with perfect precision, wrapping her legs around Walter's neck and slamming him to the ground.

"Get off me!"

Walter tried to struggle, but Melinda locked his limbs with practiced ease.

"Who are you?!"

"Oh," she smirked, "Mr. Hardy, you know exactly what's in your head. You're suspected of stealing classified state information. You're coming with us."

[State secrets?!]

Walter's thoughts spiraled. He remembered his younger days…

He'd always been a brilliant thief.

Once, a supposed U.S. government agent hired him for a job—offering huge money to steal research documents.

Thanks to his photographic memory, he memorized complex formulas and notes from a secret lab.

But afterward, he realized he'd been tricked.

His employer hadn't been with the U.S. government at all—it was Red Skull, leader of Hydra.

That information… the very formula for the Super Soldier Serum…

He'd kept it buried in his mind ever since the lab's destruction.
