For as long as she could remember, Kazakiri Hyouka had lived in a virtual world—unable to touch humans, unable to speak with them, wandering Academy City like a ghost. She had always been terrified and lonely.

That was until a few days ago, when she unexpectedly made contact with Index. Thanks to Index's power, she transitioned from illusion to reality, finally experiencing what it meant to have friends and feel happiness.

"If I'm a monster, then let this monster fight you—a fellow monster."

Summoning the energy within her, Kazakiri Hyouka's shattered body instantly reformed. She raised her arms and, with a powerful stance, managed to block the stone golem's attack once again.

But she could only hold back one of its hands.

"Interesting… things are getting more and more intriguing."

George narrowed his eyes as he observed the unfolding situation.

Kazakiri Hyouka was actually the collective embodiment of the AIM diffusion fields emitted by Academy City's 2.3 million espers. He was certain this wasn't a coincidence—it was likely another large-scale experiment orchestrated by the city.

"It's over!"

With its left fist blocked by Kazakiri Hyouka, the golem swung its right fist fiercely toward Index.

At that moment, George finally stepped in.

"Railgun!"

Flicking a coin into the air, he unleashed a powerful railgun shot, instantly shattering the golem's right arm.

"Who's there? You again? Don't think for a second that I'm afraid of you!"

Sherry's eyes widened in shock as she turned to face the newcomer. Her brows furrowed deeply.

Although his outfit had changed—now wearing men's clothing and a hat—she recognized him at a glance. The abilities and techniques were the same; he was unmistakably the Level 5 esper, Misaka Mikoto.

"It can regenerate? So it's not a disposable summon."

George watched as the golem's broken right arm reformed within seconds. A hint of surprise flickered in his eyes.

He had assumed Sherry's golem functioned similarly to those used by the apprentice magicians in the Howwatt World—where once destroyed, they wouldn't recover. But this was clearly different.

And that made it all the more fascinating.

"Even if you destroy it a hundred times, a thousand times, my Ellis won't fall."

Sherry brandished her oil-wax pen, activating an enhancement magic circle. The golem grew from five meters to eight, its body becoming even more robust and powerful.

"Ellis, kill them all!"

The stone golem let out a deafening roar before clenching its massive fists and slamming them down toward George.

Instead of meeting the attack head-on, George grabbed Kazakiri Hyouka with one hand and Index with the other, leaping back to evade the strike.

"If targeting specific areas isn't enough, then let's see what happens if I destroy it completely."

After setting the two down, George brought his hands together, then pulled them apart—forming a crackling particle cannon.

He poured all of his electricity into the weapon, locking onto the charging golem.

"Plasma Electromagnetic Cannon!"

A massive plasma blast erupted, striking the golem square in the chest. Its torso vaporized on impact.

With a flick of his wrist, George swept the plasma beam across the entire golem from head to toe, disintegrating it completely into thin air.

This time, the golem did not regenerate.

"So, it seems it has to be completely obliterated in one go to be destroyed."

"T-This is the power of a Level 5 esper…?"

Sherry stared in disbelief at the spot where her golem had once stood, now completely erased from existence. A shudder ran through her.

"How can he be this strong?!"

She had always known Level 5 espers were powerful—but not to this extent. She never imagined that her Ellis could be annihilated in a single strike.

"It won't be that easy… Let's see how many times you can pull off an attack like that."

Realizing what had happened, Sherry immediately began chanting while swiftly sketching a magic circle on the ground with her oil-wax pen. In less than a second, another stone golem rose from the earth.

However, just as she lifted her head to command it, her pupils suddenly contracted.

Because she heard George's voice—right next to her ear.

"So the key lies with you. As long as you're defeated, the golems will stop regenerating."

She instinctively spun around and threw an elbow strike behind her—only to hit nothing but air. Before she could react further, a sudden jolt of dizziness overwhelmed her, and she collapsed to the ground.

Unbeknownst to her, George had anticipated her move. The moment she summoned another golem, he had used electrical stimulation to enhance his physical speed, instantly closing the distance. Swiftly dodging her counterattack, he struck her forehead with a precise palm strike, knocking her out cold.

"Looks like magicians in this world aren't much when it comes to physical combat… though I wonder if she's just an exception."

In truth, this female magician's magic was quite formidable. Her summoned golems possessed immense strength, high durability, and regenerative abilities. Even if destroyed in an instant, she could summon another in mere seconds.

Against ordinary espers, she would be an extremely troublesome opponent. Even someone like Misaka Mikoto would struggle without relying on her Railgun or Thunder God Mode.

But all of that relied on one condition—she needed to stay hidden while controlling the golem. Instead, standing out in the open with weak close-combat abilities made her an easy target for a well-timed takedown.

"Now, let's take a look at your memories."

This magician was no small-time spellcaster. Given her skills, she likely held a significant position in the magical world, meaning her memories could contain valuable intelligence.

"Legilimens!"

Combining the Legilimency spell with telepathy, George pressed his hand against Sherry's forehead and began reading her memories.

How much information could be stored in a person's twenty-plus years of life?

Countless experiences. Even if he ignored the irrelevant ones and focused only on the most crucial moments, watching them as recordings would take months to sift through.

But that was under normal circumstances.

Inside the human brain, thoughts moved at an incredibly high speed. With mental acceleration, memories could be scanned far faster than in real life.

It was like dreaming—where hours seemed to pass in a dream, only for a person to wake up and realize they had only been asleep for a few minutes.

Especially during those quick naps on a desk during lunch breaks.

In less than a minute, George withdrew his hand from Sherry's forehead. But his expression… was one of absolute astonishment.

"I didn't expect this… so that's how it is!"

The information he had extracted from Sherry's memory far exceeded his expectations. He had finally uncovered the truth about this world.

Now, let's talk about Sherry's past.

Sherry Cromwell—an elite magician of the British Puritan Church's special force, Necessarius.

She specialized in earth-based magic, particularly golem manipulation. Additionally, she was a cryptographic expert for the British Puritan Church, skilled in decoding, constructing, and preserving hidden messages within symbolic paintings and heraldic designs.

Twenty years ago, a group of magicians from the British Puritan Church and a faction of scientists from Academy City shared a radical vision—to merge magic and science.

Their goal was to pool their respective knowledge and technology into a single facility and attempt to fuse esper abilities with magic, thus creating a new kind of being: the Arcanist.

An individual who could wield both esper abilities and magic. The ultimate existence.

The result, however, was disastrous.

In this world, magic and esper abilities were fundamentally incompatible. The consequences of attempting to merge them were severe—at best, it resulted in massive internal hemorrhaging, and at worst, the body would collapse entirely, leading to instant death.
