Chapter 247: Chapter 247: Total War
Chaos erupted on a massive scale in New York as countless Inhumans appeared in streets and alleys, launching terror attacks. Cries of panic and screams of pain intertwined, creating an atmosphere of despair.
Gwen shot a web, wrapping it around a man in front of her and throwing him aside. However, the man quickly touched the tire of a nearby car, and his entire body turned black, taking on a rubber-like texture.
No matter how much effort Gwen exerted, the man remained unharmed.
Meanwhile, on the Avengers' side, Captain America wielded his shield and knocked down a lizard-like Inhuman. Further away, more lizard-men roamed. Hawkeye and Black Widow, clad in their battle suits, moved swiftly through the crowd.
At the entrance to a sewer, Captain America threw his shield, which Black Widow caught mid-air. Hawkeye aimed an explosive-tipped arrow at the sewer entrance and fired.
As the shield clamped down over the entrance, an explosion shook the ground. The blast likely killed countless lizard-men in the sewers below.
But there was no time to celebrate. A kick came flying toward Captain America—it was the Leaper, Batroc.
Captain America dodged and turned to face Batroc.
"Here we are again, Steve. This time, neither of us will escape."
Seeing Batroc appear, Captain America signaled to Black Widow and Hawkeye to deal with the other Inhumans and the ongoing chaos. He then squared off against Batroc, launching a punch.
As the two clashed, nearly all of New York descended further into turmoil. The Avengers were scattered across the city, but even they couldn't be everywhere at once.
People began to desperately hope for their superheroes to save them. The prior protests and demonstrations against them now seemed laughable. In the face of disaster, they realized the true value of heroes. They also remembered the injustice the Emperor had suffered before.
In front of Alan stood three Inhumans, their expressions haughty as they looked at the Emperor, as if he were merely an actor in armor. The Terrigen material had drastically altered their bodies, leaving their mental states highly unstable.
Alan sighed helplessly. These opponents weren't even worth his time. Why would Pierce think these people could stop him?
One of the Inhumans couldn't hold back any longer and formed an ice blade in his hand, launching it at Alan. With a single slash of his Aurora Sword, Alan shattered the attack and calmly walked toward them.
The other two attacked simultaneously. One possessed immense strength, lifting a nearby car and hurling it at Alan. But before the car could land, Alan vanished from sight.
In an instant, the Aurora Sword sliced through all three. The Inhumans were defeated before they even realized what had happened.
Alan shook his hand dismissively and looked toward a nearby surveillance camera, making a throat-slitting gesture. On the other end, Pierce felt a sudden chill, as if Alan were standing right in front of him with his sword. The sheer pressure, even through the camera, filled Pierce with fear.
Panicking, Pierce hurriedly turned to his computer and shouted to Zola, "Seal the base! Trap him here!"
Zola remained silent. Unbeknownst to Pierce, the Red Queen had already intercepted his command. Pierce, believing Zola had carried out his orders, felt reassured and prepared to leave with his men.
With New York under invasion by Inhumans, neither the Avengers nor S.H.I.E.L.D. had the capacity to deal with him. This was the perfect time for Pierce to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D.'s base and seize the helicarriers!
Alan strolled casually toward the building, which was encased in ice by an Inhuman's powers. From the rooftop came the sound of a Quinjet's engines. Alan guessed Pierce was attempting to escape, but such an attempt underestimated him greatly.
Without bothering to enter through the building, Alan leaped into the air and flew straight toward the rooftop.
