Marvel: Superpowers in the Marvel World

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Departure

"Please, Mr. Alex, come with us to Los Angeles." Two agents dressed sharply in sleek, professional attire stood before Alex, their tone respectful and almost pleading.

"Wait... aren't agents supposed to be all-powerful? Did the rumors lie?"

In his previous life, Alex hadn't cared much for American comics or movies, but in a world saturated with information, he couldn't avoid picking up bits and pieces. Films, especially Hong Kong cinema, often depicted American agents as arrogant, domineering figures, exuding an aura of invincibility. Yet, now...

As he observed these two agents practically begging him, Alex couldn't help but feel a mix of confusion and skepticism. Were they impostors with ulterior motives?

But Alex was overthinking it. These two agents had dropped their tough act for a reason. They belonged to a government division that specialized in liaising with superheroes. Initially, their approach was indeed high-handed, but after numerous clashes, they'd learned the hard way that superheroes were even more unyielding. Having suffered repeated losses, the agents had adopted a more humble attitude—hence the scene before him now.

Dispelling his doubts, Alex slung his sword bag over his shoulder and stood up. "Let's go. I assume you've prepared some transportation?"

"!?"

Alex's unexpectedly cooperative response caught the agents off guard. They exchanged a surprised glance before one of them exclaimed joyfully, "Mr. Alex, you're willing to come with us?"

"Cut the chatter! Let's move!" Alex snapped impatiently.

"Yes, sir!"

One agent quickly pulled out a communicator, murmuring instructions, while the other bowed slightly in gratitude. "On behalf of everyone in Los Angeles, thank you, Mr. Alex!"

The agent's earnest gratitude was evident, not an act. Alex raised an eyebrow. "You're from Los Angeles?"

Embarrassed, the agent scratched his head and chuckled. "Yes, sir!"

"No wonder."

"Mr. Alex, the helicopter is en route. It'll be here in five minutes," the other agent reported after finishing his call.

Alex nodded and stood quietly, waiting.

Before long, a military helicopter roared into view, landing on a nearby open space. Its rotor blades whipped up a storm of dust, prompting nearby park-goers to shield their faces and retreat while casting angry, accusatory glances at the trio.

"Urgent matters. We can't help it!" one agent explained hurriedly.

Alex nodded in understanding and walked toward the helicopter with the two agents.

The situation in Los Angeles was dire. A giant python could appear at any moment, causing unimaginable destruction. Time was of the essence—minor inconveniences like these didn't matter.

"!"

As they approached the helicopter, a sudden sense of danger gripped Alex. Without thinking, he activated his Clairvoyant Eye to scan the surroundings.

In an instant, three high-speed sniper rounds appeared in his field of vision, slicing through the air, all aimed directly at him and the agents.

"Watch out!"

Alex barked a warning and grabbed the agents' shoulders, shifting all three of them half a step to the left.

"What the—"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The agent's startled words were cut off by the sound of bullets striking the ground where they had just stood. As seasoned field operatives, they immediately realized they were under sniper attack.

"Don't move," Alex instructed quietly. Then, following the trajectory of the bullets, he spotted a man with a sniper rifle perched on a car a hundred meters away.

"Not good!"

The sniper's expression darkened as he realized Alex had effortlessly dodged his lethal shots. Without hesitation, he fired another round—this time at the helicopter's fuel tank—before abandoning his rifle and speeding off in the car.

The helicopter wasn't far from Alex and the agents. If the fuel tank exploded, the blast would surely engulf them.

"Quick hands, huh?"

Alex smirked. With a light tap of his foot, he appeared in front of the incoming bullet, raised a finger, and flicked it.

Whoosh!

The instant his finger touched the bullet, it reversed course at several times its original speed, leaving a fiery red streak in the air.

In less than a second, the bullet struck the fleeing sniper's car, detonating its fuel tank. With a deafening boom, the vehicle burst into flames, consuming the sniper in a fiery inferno.

Fortunately, no other vehicles or pedestrians were nearby, so there were no additional casualties.

The two agents stared in shock at the distant explosion. Though they hadn't seen Alex's exact actions, they could infer what had happened. Witnessing Alex's seemingly effortless display of power, their initial anxiety about the mission transformed into confidence.

Returning with a nonchalant air, Alex said, "Let's go. I'm eager to meet that big python in Los Angeles."

"Understood!"

The agents nodded vigorously and quickly boarded the helicopter with Alex. As for the sniper and his exploded vehicle, the agents would later report the incident to the relevant New York authorities.

The helicopter's rotors roared to life, lifting the trio off the ground. It adjusted course and sped toward Los Angeles.

Manhattan, New York City – Inside a Luxury Hotel

Several young men and women were gathered in an opulent suite. Some lounged on sofas, sipping fine wine, while others stood by the window, gazing down at the streets below with faint sneers.

Though they differed in appearance—confident, cruel, elegant, or composed—their collective aura was unsettling. Despite their disparities, they all belonged to the same organization.

"According to the latest intel, only three superheroes are heading to Los Angeles. Our objective has been achieved," a man reclining on the sofa remarked with a satisfied smile.

"Only three? Who are they?" asked a stunningly dressed woman, her tone tinged with surprise. "If they survived our assassinations, they must be quite capable. Could they disrupt our plans?"

The man swirled his wine and replied with confidence, "Don't worry. I've accounted for everything. Those heading to Los Angeles are doomed. None will return alive."

"Wow, let's hope your preparations aren't wasted," a flamboyant youth quipped sarcastically.

"Hmph," the man snorted, unwilling to argue further.

"By the way, is that guy's python really as terrifying as he claims? Can it destroy the entire universe?" the woman asked curiously.

"Please," the youth scoffed. "Have you met these blowhards? All talk and no substance. Destroy the universe? Ha! I'd bet my life it can't even wipe out half of America!"

His comment drew a round of laughter.

"True, they're all bark and no bite."

"No one's taking that bet!"

"Regardless of their actual power, as long as they wreak havoc in Los Angeles, our plan will be a success," the man on the sofa declared, rising to stand by the window. Looking toward Los Angeles, his eyes gleamed with a destructive fervor.

"In the end, we will be the ones to rule the world."
