Marvel: Dragon King

Chapter 5: CH 5: Family Powers

After washing up, Ragnar followed his mother towards their barn, Sicilia holding his hand.

"Look at me," Sicilia said, crouching down in front of Ragnar.

"I will teach you how to use your powers starting today. Do you understand?" Sicilia asked, holding Ragnar's arms while she looked into his eyes.

Ragnar, with an innocent look, nodded slightly, excitement evident on his face.

Seeing this, a soft smile appeared on Sicilia's lips as she fixed Ragnar's hair.

"Maybe, just maybe, if you do well, I'll make your favorite apple pie," Sicilia teased, wanting to keep her son motivated. Then, Sicilia stood up, facing the hay in the barn.

"Now, I need you to follow me, okay? Look if you can do what I can do," Sicilia said, opening her palm. Golden Psion energy appeared as she used it to construct a golden spear before throwing it towards the tractor.

BOOM

The hay in the barn exploded, sending hay straws flying everywhere. 'God damn,' Ragnar thought, his mouth opened in shock at his mother's power. He looked up at Sicilia, eyes shining with excitement. "Do it again, please!" Ragnar pleaded.

Sicilia scoffed slightly, feeling proud, looking down at her son's excited face. 'Looks like all that training is worth it,' she thought lovingly. She still trained her powers secretly in the barn, in the forest, or on the mountain. Their farm was so vast, not many people saw her, giving her the freedom to use her powers well, unlike her husband, who couldn't use his powers as freely.

"Although your father is the one cleaning this up, I think we shouldn't destroy them all, don't you think?" Sicilia said, crouching down in front of Ragnar. "Now, it's your turn," she said, making way for her son.

"Don't worry, I can do it!" Ragnar shouted proudly, full of confidence in his control over his Psion energy. He opened his palm, took a step back, and made a throwing motion.

"Yahh!" Ragnar shouted a war cry, well, a childish scream, as he threw a little Psion energy from his hand, forming a weirdly shaped golden spear from his insufficient energy.

PHEW

The weirdly shaped golden spear shot out through the air, but before it hit the hay, it dissipated into golden dust and disappeared completely.

Ragnar opened and closed his mouth, unsure what to say. Even though he had used all the energy he could muster, it wasn't enough.

"Pfft," Sicilia couldn't help but laugh, picturing her son's proud look. She covered her mouth, turning her head to the side.

"Mom! Don't laugh!" Ragnar said, his face was red from embarrassment.

"I know, I know," Sicilia said, calming herself down and smiling at her son. "It just means you're still growing up." She took the hay straws out of Ragnar's hair. "It shows you're not strong just because you have powers. Do you understand?" she whispered, hugging Ragnar.

"I know, but I'm gonna get stronger. I promise," Ragnar said, hugging Sicilia back.

"Then, what are you going to do?" Sicilia asked, curiously, carrying her son out of the barn.

"Then, then I'm going to beat dad," Ragnar said with a thoughtful face.

"Is that so? Then I'm waiting for that to happen," Sicilia said with a laugh, getting out of the barn.

"What did I ever do to you guys?" Elliot asked, arms crossed, as he heard them from outside.

"Hmm, You stole my pie!" Ragnar exclaimed, finding a good reason.

"You guys had fun," Elliot said, looking at the hay straws in his wife's hair, who was laughing at Ragnar. He looked inside, seeing the destroyed hay.

"Dad, how about you show us your powers?" Ragnar asked. Though he wanted to see his father's powers, he also wanted his father to join them, so he could destroy the hay too and not be angry.

"No, it's not appropriate," Elliot said, shaking his head. He didn't want to lose control of his powers.

"Weak," Ragnar whispered lowly, but loud enough for his father to hear, as he hugged his mother's neck.

Elliot's lips twitched after hearing his son. 'Looks like this kid needs to be taught a lesson,' he thought. Then, Sicilia pushed him on the shoulder.

"Do it," Sicilia said, pointing towards the tractor. "Just this time, I'll help you, not get out of control," she said, nodding towards Elliot with a smile. Ragnar raised his head, looking at Elliot with an expectant look.

Elliot saw his son and wife's expectations, shaking his head as he walked towards the tractor.

"You spoiled him too much," Elliot said with a sigh, as he held the tractor, crouching down and closing his eyes. He thought about what made him angry. Then, he remembered the car crash, the accident where he almost lost his wife and son.

Elliot opened his eyes. His pupils turned into slits, his iris turned orange, and red scales appeared on his face and arms. A puff of smoke shot out from his nose as he exhaled.

"RAAHH," Elliot shouted in anger, as he raised the tractor over his head. His transformation didn't stop there. Red scales appeared on his entire body, and his body began to grow larger.

"Calm down," Sicilia said, her voice calm and strong, her right index and middle finger placed over her temple.

"Put down the tractor."

Elliot's eyes began to return to normal as he heard his wife's voice in his mind. He put down the tractor, releasing a snarl as the red scales on his body started to disappear. He didn't get close to Sicilia, not wanting to frighten their son.

Sicilia released a sigh. She felt what Elliot was feeling, and she couldn't help but feel sad for her husband, as there was no cure for his powers. She turned around to look at Ragnar, wanting to persuade him not to be scared of his father, but what she saw was her son looking at his father with bright eyes.

"Cool!" Ragnar shouted in excitement, thinking he would be a full dragon after accepting his reward later. He wiggled out of his mother's arms, running towards Elliot.

"Let me try," Ragnar said after hugging Elliot on the leg, walking towards the tractor.

"Yahh!" Ragnar shouted as golden scales appeared on his arms, as he tried to pull up the tractor, but it didn't budge. Even though his face was about to turn red with exertion, he couldn't move the tractor.

Elliot was shocked and happy that his son wasn't afraid of him. He hurriedly stopped Ragnar from forcing himself.

"Okay, okay, that's enough. It's not going to budge. How about we try again when you're older, bud?" Elliot said, pulling Ragnar off the tractor.

"Fine," Ragnar whispered, slightly depressed that he couldn't even push down the tractor.

Sicilia tapped her husband on the shoulder. She felt happy that her little family bond was stronger, even with their powers. "Okay, back yourself up and rest," Sicilia said to Ragnar before turning towards Elliot. "Don't you think he deserves a reward?"

"Hmm, okay, but you need to make sure you give me some, okay bud?" Elliot said to Ragnar with a smile.

"Apple pie! And whip cream!" Ragnar shouted, running with raised arms towards their home.

"Look at him go, faster than any kid I have seen," Elliot said, looking at Ragnar's back, realizing his son was faster than an adult, even without transforming into a dragon.

"He's strong, and his potential is stronger than both of us," Sicilia said, hugging Elliot's arm. She smiled, proud of her son's abilities. "What are you thinking when you lose control?" she asked, looking at Elliot in the eyes.

"I thought, what if I lose you guys? I couldn't even imagine what I would do," Elliot said, releasing a sigh of anger and sadness.

"We're all fine. That's an accident," Sicilia said softly. "And who will control you if you're out of control if not me?" She smiled, cupping her husband's cheeks.

"I know. That's why I can't lose you more," Elliot said, showing a slight smile before kissing his wife on the lips.

"Thank you for being with me," Elliot said, resting his forehead against his wife's, sighing. He knew his wife had given up a rich life just to be with him and live on the farm, hiding their powers, as Sicilia would help him if he was out of control.

"Don't mention it. Otherwise, how would my baby have been born?" Sicilia said with a smile, releasing her husband's cheeks and walking towards their house.

"I say, I think you love Ragnar more than me!" Elliot shouted, complaining, but a smile was on his lips as he followed his wife.

"Oh, darling, you're so right about that," Sicilia said, stopping in her tracks, giving Elliot a side-eye before laughing.

Elliot shook his head, still smiling, and ran towards his wife. "Wait for me!" he shouted, running to Sicilia's side, taking her palm as they walked towards the house, hand-in-hand.

The sun began to set, casting long shadows across the farm. The air was crisp and cool, the smell of freshly turned earth and blooming flowers filling the air. It was a beautiful evening, a moment of peaceful normalcy amidst the extraordinary lives they led.
