Marvel: As Security Guard

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Kamar-Taj

"I just came to check on you, and to remind you that if you don't want to expose yourself too early, maybe you should think about the timing of when you choose to save people," Ancient One said.

Her words hit the nail on the head for Shane. Ever since he was transmigrated, he had known from a young age that he was different.

At first, he thought he was a mutant, but later he realized he wasn't. As he grew up, the various abilities that gradually awakened in him started to resemble those of a certain superhero from DC more and more. This made him feel somewhat inflated at one point, even tempted to try wearing his underwear outside his pants.

However, after thinking it over, he realized the Marvel universe was much deeper than it seemed. In the end, he decided it was better not to expose himself until he figured out what was really going on with this universe.

Besides, being a hero is exhausting, right? Just look at our Spidey boy. Getting betrayed, NTRed, cheated, add any possible shit an author could do to a good hero.

If Shane really revealed his abilities, he'd be constantly running around saving one person after another. What if he ran into a certain purple dude who was all about population control? He might end up in a life-or-death struggle.

So, for the first 20+ years of his life, Shane kept himself well hidden. He barely used his special abilities, only doing so when he worked as a 3A bodyguard to ensure he completed every job with 100% success and top ratings.

Even when he applied to Stark Industries for a security guard position, it was simply because he wanted the security of being backed by a powerful company.

After hearing Ancient One's words, Shane thought for a moment and realized there was indeed some truth to what she said. He would have to ensure Iron Man's birth, or else he would have to take on all the work himself. That would make his job as a security guard far from relaxing; he'd be constantly rescuing people and possibly even saving the world.

No, no, that wouldn't be worth it! He decided to let Tony Stark stick around for a while longer.

"But I've already come all the way here. You can't just let me go back like this, can you?" Shane said with an awkward smile, tilting his head as he looked at the Ancient One.

As if she knew Shane would say this, the Ancient One shot him a reproachful glance, then raised her hand, which was adorned with a ring, summoning the portal she had just walked through.

"This thing is really convenient," Shane muttered under his breath, gazing curiously at the other side of the glowing portal. It was the place where the Ancient One practiced: Kamar-Taj.

"Do you still want to learn? I can teach you," Ancient One suddenly turned around and looked at Shane, who was gazing longingly at the magic. It was as if, with just a nod from Shane, she would instantly teach him everything she knew.

"Uh... maybe not. You know, I'm kind of lazy," Shane replied, thinking that if he agreed, the Ancient One might hand him the position of Sorcerer Supreme and then run off.

The Ancient One, failing at passing the responsibility, shook her head helplessly and led the way into the portal. Shane followed behind her.

After passing through the portal, Shane looked around curiously at the room. Hmm, it was quite open. The room was very sparse, with only a bed and a table; there was nothing else.

"Only a bed and some furniture, huh. But as much as I seem handsome, I don't think I am ready for dual-cultivation. Noting against hairless." Shane said, his face full of distaste.

"Don't worry. Everything you need is here. I don't know what this 'dual-cultivation' is but you don't have to endure harsh training like others. Harsh training is just a personal choice. I know you don't want to take the position of Sorcerer Supreme, but I can still teach you magic," the Ancient One said as she lit a sandalwood incense.

Shane watched the Ancient One walk away and couldn't help but think to himself. 'Seems like I might be an important figure in the future, otherwise, the Ancient One wouldn't be this kind to me.'

"Something like this, huh?" Shane clearly found it hard to believe.

The Ancient One smiled slightly and said, "Rest well. We can start tomorrow."

Then, she turned and walked out of the small room.

And so, Shane settled down at Kamar-Taj, and the Ancient One kept her word, truly starting to teach him magic.

---

"We draw powerful energy from other dimensions in the multiverse..."

Shane watched as the Ancient One effortlessly manipulated the magical energy, shaping it into patterns that resembled flowers, and he couldn't help but start mimicking her movements.

The Ancient One noticed Shane's actions and showed a hint of appreciation in her eyes before continuing her demonstration and explanation.

With the strongest sorcerer on land teaching him, Shane's progress in magic could be described as rapid—like a thousand miles a day.

It seemed that the rumors online about Superman being a "magic-resistant" being were wrong. It turned out that Superman's magic affinity was just a bit lower compared to his physical attributes, or maybe Shane himself had a higher affinity for magic?

Just as it was going good, annoyance came.

"Is the Sorcerer Supreme in?" A cold voice came from the doorway. It was Mordo.

"Yeah, she's inside. Are you going in to ask the Sorcerer Supreme for advice again?" Shane, who had just finished his training with the Ancient One, was about to head to the library when he bumped into the familiar dude, Mordo, at the door.

After receiving Shane's response, Mordo didn't say anything further and walked straight inside.

Ever since Mordo arrived at Kamar-Taj and learned that Shane had been receiving private instruction from the Sorcerer Supreme, his jealousy had been growing inside him.

From the very first time he learned about Kamar-Taj, he had admired and respected the Ancient One. He considered himself the most devoted follower of the Sorcerer Supreme, so he was increasingly displeased with Shane's casual attitude about her.

Shane glanced back at the rude little guy and wondered if he had done something to upset him. Come to think of it, wasn't this guy supposed to become a villain in the future? Maybe Shane should just get rid of him now, save the Ancient One some trouble, and return the favor for teaching him magic.

Just as Shane was pondering whether to deal with Mordo, the Ancient One, wearing her black sorcerer robe, stepped out with Mordo following behind her.

Seeing Shane standing there with a stiff face, the Ancient One glanced at Mordo, who was standing nearby with his head lowered in submission, then turned to Shane and said, "Didn't you say you were going to the library? Why aren't you going?"

She even winked at him as she spoke. He's still useful.

Receiving the Ancient One's signal, Shane naturally knew better than to interfere. He shot a glance at Mordo. 'You're lucky, kid.'

After Shane left, the Ancient One couldn't help but smile faintly before turning to Mordo and asking, "What was it you asked me earlier?"

---

Life at Kamar-Taj wasn't exactly tough, just a little boring. Everyone here was either studying magic or studying magic. The sorcerers were all so serious, it was hard to have any real fun.

The only person Shane found somewhat interesting was Wang. This guy appeared to be all serious on the surface, but deep down he was a bit of a perv—his music tastes were enough of a clue.

"Hey there, Wang. How'd you get roped into this again? I told you before, this job isn't easy. If you're not careful, you could lose your head," Shane walked into the library and saw the usual librarian wasn't there, but Wang was sitting behind the desk with his phone playing music.

"...Flying forward... waiting for the rose of love."

Wang raised his head and looked at Shane with a neutral expression before silently reaching out to turn off the music on his phone.

Shane, recalling the music he had just heard blaring from the phone, couldn't help but point at Wang and compliment him, "Not bad taste in music, brother." He then looked Wang up and down, eyeing his massive frame, "But, can you even fly with all that?"

Wang didn't respond, simply giving Shane a look as if saying, "What's your problem?"

"Come on, Wang. We're pretty familiar with each other by now. Can't you talk to me a little? Let's chat and build some rapport," Shane leaned his upper body over the desk, giving Wang a teasing look.

Wang took a deep breath, and Shane thought he had finally made an impression. But then...

"Have you finished all your books?"
