Chapter 195: First Match
Swoosh!
Through a flash of light, Kiernan stepped through and arrived at a blue-painted dojo. It was far different from that previous serene-looking dojo.
'I had to leave, I wasn't going to deal with that.'
After Mira's personality seemed to disappear from the girl, she started to freak out and looked like she was suffering through a panic attack.
It seemed far too real for her to be just any ordinary AI.
At that moment, he happened to receive Coach Jin's invitation and immediately accepted it. That invitation teleported him here.
"Yo, what took you so long?" Julian waved his hand.
Kiernan looked over and saw that everyone was sitting on the stairs, enjoying the fake, yet seemingly real weather of the virtual reality space.
Above them, their gamer tags hovered above their heads.
Julian's gamer tag was "Black-Yellow Tiger."
Coach Jin's was "CoachJin."
Julia's was "BlackFlowers."
Jonathan's was "Knightly Justice."
Lastly, Dominic's was "Dominator8888."
Since the Dominator name was already taken, he put four random numbers at the end.
"I just had to think for my name." Kiernan said as he scratched the back of his head and joined them sitting on the stairs.
"Hunter, huh." Coach Jin rubbed his chin. "I am surprised that name wasn't taken. I guess you're lucky, then."
"Yeah…" Kiernan awkwardly replied.
He didn't have any time to properly process what the hell just happened. He couldn't understand how that Mira girl, who should be AI, knew so much about him.
'Well, the good thing is that I can use all of my Iron Style, but why is even this place holding me back by not allowing me to use True Iron Style?'
"Now, before I launch a game for us, check the game interface and check out everything Infinite Dojo has to offer. You may come back here on your own time, but it is costly, so make the most of your time here now."
'Interface.'
Kiernan thought.
The holographic screen appeared before him.

'It looks like you can have a proper martial arts match here. Then there is Punch Ball and Time Trial… I wonder if that Time Trial is similar to the Game.'
Out of curiosity, he pressed on the rankings.

"Coach!" Julian raised his hand. "Are we joining the same team or nah?"
"No," Coach Jin shook his head. "Making a team in Infinite Dojo is costly business, and it isn't worth it for us. You can join one of the existing teams if you get invited."
"How can someone get invited?" Julian asked.
"You can make a name for yourself in the solo ranks." Coach Jin replied. "That's how most of the people usually join these teams. Usually you'll have to reach the top 10,000 to catch their eye.
"However, you can also enter team matches as a solo player. Your rank will stay the same, but it is skill-based matchmaking, so if you start to do well, you'll end up facing good opponents sooner than later.
"Some of them might hit you up with an invitation if you show that you're good."
They all nodded. However, it sounded like joining teams was extremely difficult.
They were merely 45 million in the rankings, and they would have to somehow reach the top 10,000 to even have a chance to join one of the teams.
'It sounds like people are taking this game very seriously.'
"Alright, I'll enter a game now!"
Coach Jin shouted.
"Six players are the max, so I will join you guys. I will be the goalie, two of you will be at defense, and three will be attackers. Decide quickly!"
As he said that, he entered the queue system.
"I will attack," Kiernan said.
"Oh, Kiernan, I thought you liked defense!" Julian smirked. "Well, I'll take a defensive role this time."
"I'll attack." Dominic said with slight nervousness as he took a glimpse at Kiernan.

"Hmm, what do you want to do, Julia?" Jonathan asked.
"I'll…" Julia bit her lip and said. "Can I also attack?"
"Sure, I'll defend." Jonathan cracked his knuckles.
"The roles have been set!" Coach Jin said. "This is all about teamwork. In Infinite Dojo, there are no such things as martial ranks. Everyone here is the same, which is around Martial Champion level of strength.
"Dominic, Jonathan, and Julia, this is first for you three. You haven't experienced that kind of strength yet, so it might be weird for you.
"Julian and Kiernan, you two are already experienced, so you're two cornerstones of the team!"
'They're in Martial Champion?!' Dominic looked shocked. 'What kind of monsters are they?!'
Ding! Ding!
A new match popped up.
"It's time!"
With bright light surrounding them, they soon arrived in a field that is inside some kind of dome. Ground was full of grass, and the walls and ceilings looked like they were made of concrete.
There were two goals—looking just like soccer goals—and on the opponent's side, six people arrived from a flash of light.
"Oh, we're facing some kids!" A middle-aged man laughed.
"Adults?" Jonathan raised an eyebrow.
"In Infinite Dojo, you can face people of any age!" Coach Jin shouted. "You will be facing people from all around the world. This is a good chance to learn!"
Crack!
Kiernan cracked his knuckles and walked to the middle of the field. He was facing a middle-aged man, who was smirking and looking him straight in the eye.
They were of the same height.
"Kiernan, at the start of the match, the ball will come from the ground. Whoever catches the ball first will have the first possession!"
Coach Jin shouted instructions.
"I understand." Kiernan said, and then looked at his opponent's gamer tag.
