Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Synchronization
(Saturday, April 27, 2024 – 1:02 AM)
Daniel sat on the floor, his second body breathing steadily as he stared at his first body lying still on the mattress. He had to figure this out. He had gotten close earlier, feeling the pull weaken, but he still couldn't maintain awareness in both bodies at the same time.
Gritting his teeth, he raised his hand and slapped his first body's cheek. The familiar sensation of his consciousness slipping washed over him, but this time, it was weaker. He fought back, straining his mind to hold on, but the force was still too much. His vision blurred, and just like before, he felt himself get pulled away.
His eyes snapped open, but now he was in his smaller body, staring at the ceiling as his larger body collapsed onto the mattress. He exhaled sharply, barely paying attention to it as a deep soreness spread through his limbs.
Every muscle ached, his lungs burned, and a sharp pain settled in his stomach. Ultra Instinct had pushed his first body beyond its limits. He could feel the strain in every fiber of his being, but he couldn't let that stop him. He had to try again.
Without hesitation, he raised his hand and struck his larger body's face. The moment his palm connected, the pull of unconsciousness hit him again. He gritted his teeth, fighting against it with everything he had, but once more, he lost. His vision shifted, and he found himself back in his second body, blinking as he adjusted. His first body now lay limp.
Again.
Over and over, he repeated the process, slapping himself, feeling his consciousness slip, and resisting with all his might. His body ached, his head pounded, and sweat dripped down his forehead, but he refused to stop. He continued like this for the next two hours, each attempt sharpening his awareness, each failure teaching him to adapt.
Then, something changed.
Daniel was in his smaller body when he slapped the larger one. The pull came, but by now, he had grown accustomed to it. He resisted, pushing back harder than ever.
His vision flickered, and suddenly, he felt something strange, his eyes fluttered open.
But he was still in his smaller body.
His breath hitched as realization struck. His eyes were already open, so what he had just felt were his second body's eyelids fluttering. For the first time, he wasn't inside his other body, but he could still feel it.
Then, his perspective split.
From his first body's view, he saw his second body lying on the mattress, its eyes slightly open. But from his second body's view, he was looking at the ceiling. Two perspectives. Two angles.
His head spun, a wave of dizziness hitting him as his brain struggled to process the dual input. He had done it. He had finally connected both bodies without switching.
He tried to move his larger body's hand, focusing hard. But instead, his smaller body's fingers twitched. His breath slowed as he analyzed what had happened. His mind was still anchored to the body he was currently in, meaning he could feel the other body, but he hadn't fully controlled it yet.
'Damn… I moved the wrong one.'
But this was progress. He was close. So damn close.
(3:12 AM)
Daniel sat still, breathing evenly as his mind adjusted to the strange, overwhelming sensation of two perspectives. His first body sat cross-legged on the floor, eyes closed, while his second body was laying on the mattress, staring at the ceiling.
He needed to focus.
Calmly, he concentrated on the second body's vision, letting the ceiling fill his view. Slowly, carefully, he tried to move its eyes. At first, nothing happened. The sensation was foreign, like trying to control a limb that wasn't his.
He strained with his mental awareness shifting as he pushed past the unnatural feeling. After several long seconds, the second body's gaze finally shifted to the side. His heart pounded as he repeated the action, dragging his vision across the ceiling, then back again. The movement was stiff at first, but each attempt became smoother, more natural.
Encouraged, he moved on to the fingers.
His focus sharpened as he tried to twitch the second body's hand. The delay was frustrating, his first instinct was to move his current body instead, but he forced himself to ignore it, redirecting his mental command.
After a few seconds, his second body's fingers twitched. A rush of exhilaration shot through him, but he didn't let himself get distracted. He flexed them again, slower this time, curling them into a fist before releasing.
It was working.
He repeated the action, gradually gaining more control, until he could open and close both hands at will. From there, he moved to the wrists, rotating them carefully before extending the entire arm. The motion was clumsy, the limb not responding as smoothly as he wanted, but the more he practiced, the better it felt. Soon, he could move both arms, stretching them out, rolling the shoulders, even flexing the fingers independently without confusion.
Breathing steadily, he shifted his attention downward. Now came the real challenge.
He focused on his second body's legs, willing them to move. At first, they refused to cooperate. His balance felt nonexistent, like he was disconnected from his own center of gravity. But he pushed through, shifting his weight carefully, feeling out each small adjustment.
Then, after several attempts he tried to get up and take a step forward.
His footing was shaky, his knee almost buckling under him, but he didn't fall. He adjusted, planted his other foot, then stood up completely. His second body was now on its feet, standing independently.
His first body, still seated, remained still, eyes shut in deep concentration.
A slow grin formed on both faces.
Daniel took a moment to process everything. He had done it. He was controlling both bodies at the same time. There were still imperfections, the movements weren't fluid, his sense of balance was slightly off, but he had reached a new threshold.
He raised his second body's hand and flexed the fingers again, testing the feeling while shifting into different positions. Simple stances, nothing complicated yet. He continued like this for the next thirty minutes, rolling his shoulders, stretching, making sure every motion became more familiar. It wasn't perfect, but it was getting there.
(3:55 AM)
Satisfied, Daniel took a deep breath, then slowly opened his first body's eyes. His vision doubled for a moment, but he blinked, adjusting to the dual input. Carefully, he stood up. His footing wavered at first, his equilibrium thrown off by processing two sets of sensory feedback, but he quickly steadied himself.
Now, both bodies were standing.
They faced each other as Daniel let out a quiet chuckle before lifting an arm at the same time. He grinned. This was surreal.
An idea formed.
With deliberate movement, he moved both hands, attempting to make the two bodies dap each other. The coordination was awkward at first, one hand moving too early, the other too slow, resulting in a few failed attempts. But after a few tries, the motion finally connected. The sound of two palms slapping together echoed softly in the room.
Daniel let out a breathless laugh.
Then, something occurred to him, throughout all of this, he hadn't spoken yet.
Still grinning, he opened both mouths at the same time. "Hello."
His second body's voice was deeper, more mature, while the first body's voice was lighter. The difference was subtle but noticeable.
Excitement rushed through him. If he could speak with both bodies at the same time, could he say different things?
He tried.
At first, his sentences overlapped, both voices speaking in unison, but he quickly adjusted, forcing himself to separate them. He spoke one word from his first body, then another from his second. It was clumsy, slow, like learning how to talk all over again. But twenty minutes later, he was holding a full conversation, alone.
(4:22 AM)
Daniel exhaled, letting both bodies relax as he processed everything. He had done it. He wasn't just switching between bodies anymore, he was controlling both at once.
