Chapter 164: Getting a title
Lucas hadn't looked at the notification he was getting at all. When the corridor seemed to be all safe, Lucas went to the section where he could see the logs.
[Skill 'Pain resistance' Acquired!]
[You have the mark of the damned on you]
[Titlle- One who is watched by the damned gained]
[Title benefits- +50 mana, aura of the damned aquiared]
Lucas looked at everything with vigilance, without further ado, he opened his status which confirmed to him that the 'aura of the damned' was not a skill but something else he didn't understand yet.
Before his name, a title had appeared, that he was marked by the damned.
'That fucker really gave me something…' Lucas thought with his eyes closed and a deep sigh came out of his mouth.
He clicked on the title opening yet another prompt explaining what the title gave him to what it was to begin with.

One who is watched by the damned
+50 mana
- Normal aura changed to the aura of the damned due to the gain of the title.
The one who has this title is now seen as an enemy of the whole living. Cursed by a spirit that is sentenced to rot in a void prison for eternity, you are now the enemies of the ones that put the cursed spirit in the prison. The lives of the ones with this title are doomed to be miserable and you are one of the first to be given this title.

"... I don't like the sound of that…"
"I know right?"
Lucas moved his face up and saw Bill with one of his eyes glowing, Bill had a frown on his face but when his eyes met with Lucas, he totally froze on the spot.
Lucas kept looking at him and moved his finger near the mouth as if commanding him to not speak about this at all.
Bill who already had some sort of fear etched in him toward Lucas felt even more miserable in his gaze, he only nodded sheepishly without even making eye contact.
While Ella was helping everyone is healing their slight injuries, Lucas looked at his status again and this time clicked on the 'aura of the damned' in order to understand it properly.

Aura of the damned
Unique grade
Level #
If a user gets the aura of the damned, their whole aura changed into that of the damned. The ability cannot be leveled but with each level up of the user, the aura will automatically increase and condense making impacts around the user even if they don't permit it.
The ability's current use is to steal the life energy of the living in a minuscule amount which does not go by the laws of the Plains of Amaeron yet is still mysteriously allowed.

'What? So I steal the life of the others around me? What nonsense! And this all just keeps getting weird and weird…' Lucas thought and closed his status, he wanted to get some rest as all the healing and the prior mental fatigue were making him sick.
There were bags under his eyes and his eyes still looked very sharp.
"Lucas…" Sarah came near him while the others were looking around and talking, "What happened when I was gone? Did that thing hurt you?"
She asked in concern, Lucas kept looking at her face, with the light of the torched far from them and the shadows, she was looking even more beautiful, and the way she was looking at him, her eyes innocent, her mouth in some sort of pout, it made Lucas want to just snuggle with her until his exhaustion was completely gone, he had the urge to tell her everything that was going on yet he had to bite his lip to have some restraint.
Luas made the hold on his lip lighter subconsciously with the fear of actually biting through it again at the back of his mind.
The events of the past hours had been intense, filled with danger, and riddled with mysteries that he was only beginning to unravel.
He found a relatively comfortable spot against the corridor wall and decided to change spots from the center and sat down, leaning his head back and closing his eyes.
As he rested, his mind raced through everything that had transpired. The encounter with the weird creature in the darkness, the gain of the strange title and the Aura of the Damned, and the eerie feeling that lingered from the whole adventure, all of it combined to create a jumble of thoughts and emotions.
Around him, the group was engaged in a mix of conversations, tending to their wounds, and discussing their next steps.
Ella's soothing words and healing magic helped alleviate some of their discomfort, both physical and mental. Lucas's attention changed between their discussions and his own contemplations.
John had taken over with the leadership as he gave commands to the others which they followed without any word. Lucas was tired but he could still think about what could happen if John was the leader, then he wouldn't have so much burden.
But at the back of his head, he couldn't imagine himself not being a leader. It just felt natural, and when he went back to his memories, Lucas could feel that he had talked care of them all to his best, and seeing each and every one alive after the whole scene of darkness, he felt a bit proud of himself.
After a while, he felt a gentle touch on his shoulder. Opening his eyes, he found Sarah standing beside him, her expression a mix of concern and reassurance. She offered him a small, understanding smile.
"It seems the level of the dungeon still hasn't been cleared."
"Figured. We would be back home by now if it was completed."
"Home huh..." Sarah said with a humm making it seem weird but Lucas was too tired to actually ask, he didn't bother.
"Are you okay now?"
"I think so, aside from how Aunt Ellas's healing just sucks all the energy out of the body you know."
Sarah giggled in response making Lucas groan and make his head move back to the wall in order to get the support again.
"They told me to ask you how long till we start again."
Lucas could only sigh inwardly, no matter how much safe the place looked, they still needed to leave so forcefully, he just got up and with a few jumps, he went near to the group who looked at him approach with different emotions.
Lucas told them all how he was alright as many seemed to be too worried about his health, both mental and physical.
"Lucas, are you really okay?" Ella asked and Lucas was going to give the same old answer until he looked into her eyes, she was staring at him with a serious expression unlike how she almost always had a concerned expression or a warmly happy one.
"I am okay..." Lucas reacted with a small smile yet Ella didn't seem to be satisfied but he was happy seeing her back down.
His gaze went to Bill who was sweating bullets.
"What is up with those fingerprints, was the healing not enough to remove it?" Jerry asked while pointing toward the mark on his arm.
Lucas instinctively hid it under his hand and just shook his head.
"It's nothing, can we complete this dungeon first? All this talk can be encouraged later too."
The others looked at him weirdly but nobody said it on his face.
Lucas just wanted the conversation to be over. He didn't want to put anything in anyone's mind for now as they still needed to leave the dungeon.
"Alright, our same formation just like how we practiced in the shelter, forget the hand-holding one we had before," Lucas said in order o let them move and lighten the mood a little.
Under Lucas's command, everyone was in the formation again. Lucas's hand fell on the scabbard of his sword on the right side of his waist and a complicated thought came to his mind.
'I thought with these 2 swords and the skill I have with them, it will be easy to cut my way through...' He thought dejectedly.
Lucas lost some of his confidence with his swords seeing that they were not useful in every other situation.
They all started marching forward in the corridor, it was narrow and had torches after every few meters, there was no problem looking ahead as everything was illuminated yet it also made them sure that the walk was going to be very long just like before.
After half an hour of just walking while making some random conversations, Lucas finally started to have something in his vision other than the narrow pavement.
He didn't speak anything but increased his pace which made the others do the same
Many assumptions and questions were made throughout the travel yet Lucas didn't entertain any of them as he kept on briskly walking until finally, they all could look at the end of the corridor properly even when it was still very far.
"Doors?"
