Chapter 171: All Members are Villains
Unit 5 Investigative Team, Office Area.
Everyone looked at Mona, waiting for her to continue.
"These African Americans are members of a small black gang in the Fordham community, the 'Cigar Gang.'"
Mona tapped a few keys and displayed the information from the computer to everyone:
"Agent Norton from the Organized Crime Investigation Division just sent me some information.
It shows that the 'Cigar Gang' has recently been trying hard to expand their territory."
Luo An took a sip of his coffee:
"It's really not surprising."
"Yeah."
Mona nodded and then suddenly laughed:
"However, because of you and Reesi, the 'Cigar Gang' is probably going to be wiped out soon."
Luo An paused:
"What do you mean?"
The others, upon hearing this, also showed puzzled expressions.
Mona did not keep them in suspense, but explained with a smile:
"The 'Cigar Gang' was not established long ago and doesn't have many members.
The people you killed, a large part of them were core members of the 'Cigar Gang.'
Now that the core members are dead, and with the 'Cigar Gang' boss recently offending quite a few other gangs in the nearby areas while trying to expand their turf, so..."
The agents suddenly understood and once again, their gaze towards Luo An was filled with admiration.
Luo An raised an eyebrow, not expecting this outcome from the operation.
He planned to find Agent Norton from the Organized Crime Investigation Division to chat later, to see if there was any benefit to be gained.
However, the gang conflicts could be set aside for now, as the current priority was the case of the murdered female judge at hand.
So Luo An looked at Mona and asked again:
"Did you find out why those 'Cigar Gang' guys wanted to meet with Avar Miller at the motel?"
"No."
Mona shook her head to indicate no, but Edwin Miller had woken up, and he definitely knew the reasons behind it.
——
In the hospital, upon hearing Luo An's question, Edwin Miller, lying on the hospital bed and enduring the pain from his wounds, explained with an ugly expression:
"It's because Avar was doing business with those black bastards!"
Edwin said that Avar had somehow gotten hold of a batch of weapons and then planned to sell them to the 'Cigar Gang.'
Today was the day for Avar to meet with the Cigar Gang to discuss the price.
Meeting at the motel was also Avar's idea.
But unexpectedly, as soon as they met today, those black bastards pulled out guns and pointed them at Avar and Edwin, planning to exchange their lives for the batch of weapons.
"..."
Reesi stood by with a speechless face.
But on second thought, such behavior did seem consistent with the behavioral habits of black people.
Luo An wasn't surprised by this, as doing business with gangs always required being prepared for the possibility of them having the idea to double-cross.
Especially when the other party was a gang that had only been established for a short time and was made up of lower-class black people.
Jotting down a few notes in his notebook, Luo An asked:
"You said earlier that you had important clues to tell us. What is the clue?"
"Sande Dian, ****"
Upon hearing Luo An's question, Edwin immediately reported a name and a series of numbers, and then said through gritted teeth:
"This is the fake identity Avar bought, along with the social security number for this false identity.
You must catch him and then send him to prison!"
Edwin was an old soldier, who fought for this country in his youth, and after returning home, he always abided by the country's laws.
But recently, he lost his job and couldn't keep up with the expensive alimony payments.
With no choice, Edwin decided to seek the help of his cousin who had been in and out of prison over the years, hoping to make some quick money with his help.
To Edwin's delight, Avar agreed without hesitation and didn't treat him as an outsider, sharing everything with him.
But to Edwin's anger, the reason Avar didn't regard him as an outsider was that he never intended to let him live, instead, he was using him as a human shield for the transaction.
Today, the two of them met with the Cigar Gang and learned that the Cigar Gang planned to betray and rob them. Edwin was extremely nervous, but Avar did not panic at all.
Hearing gunshots coming from downstairs, Avar immediately pushed Edwin towards the Cigar Gang's gunfire, while he himself smashed the glass and jumped out from the second floor to escape.
"..."
After listening to Edwin's account and looking at his face darkened with expressions, Luo An and Reesi exchanged a glance, both seeing a speechless look in each other's eyes.
No wonder Avar Miller has been to prison more times than he has gone home.
After writing the name and social security number into a notebook, Luo An fell silent for a few seconds, raised his head to give a brief account of the situation surrounding the murder of a judge at the bakery's entrance, and then asked:
"Next to the body, we found two 9mm bullets with Avar's fingerprints.
What does this case have to do with Avar?"
"..."
Edwin Miller opened his mouth but didn't speak, bowing his head in silence.
Seeing this, Luo An narrowed his eyes slightly, while Reesi's expression became serious as well.
It appeared that there was more to the situation.
After hesitating for a while, Edwin licked his dry lips and looked up at Luo An and Reesi:
"Before I say this, I want you to give me full immunity for this case."
Reesi's eyebrows raised, not expecting that this case involved Edwin as well.
She turned her head to look at Luo An, only to see him closing his notebook and smiling:
"We'll have to see whether the information you provide is useful.
If what you tell us helps us crack this case, we'll fight for your immunity in front of the judge."
"...OK."
After a moment of silence, Edwin took a deep breath and spoke in a grave voice:
"After Avar showed me the batch of weapons he got, I secretly stole ten handguns and a bunch of bullets from there.
And I sold them off behind Avar's back."
Edwin requested immunity from Luo An and Reesi because if he hid it now, the FBI would expose him after catching Avar.
Because although Avar had been in and out of prison multiple times, he had never sold guns alone, and it was his first time negotiating with the Cigar Gang.
On the other hand, the one who loaded the guns was Edwin Miller himself.
Legally speaking, he was an accomplice in the murder case.
By speaking out now, Edwin had a reason to plead with the judge in court.
If he kept it hidden, but the FBI still uncovered the matter, then Edwin would be in trouble down the line.
At forty years old and having experienced the torment of life and death once again, Edwin only wanted to live the rest of his life well.
After hearing Edwin's description, Reesi rolled her eyes.
It seemed that there was not a single good person in the whole story.
Luo An, however, did not mind this and directly asked:
"Do you remember who you sold those firearms and ammunition to?"
"Of course!"
Edwin nodded:
"I was very cautious about this matter. I used paper and pen to record every transaction time and location."
"Good."
Throwing the notebook to Reesi, Luo An patted his thighs and stood up from his chair:
"We need that notebook."
Edwin was very cooperative:
"No problem!"
——
That evening, due to the severity of the case and high public interest, Unit Five was forced to work overtime.
As for Avar Miller, Unit Five handed his information over to the task force under the major case division for them to pursue.
Catching the custom-made big burger tossed over by Augustus, Luo An took a bite, looked at Mona and asked:
"How's it going, find anything?"
Mona shook her head; she was still searching.
"Thanks for the hard work."
Patting Mona on the shoulder, just as Luo An was about to pass the other burger to her, William suddenly slapped the table excitedly and shouted from not far away:
"I've found a clue!"
