Chapter 20: A Mother's Resolve
The ornate office of the Hokage was as stifling as ever, its air thick with tension. Sayuri Arata—the wealthy, enigmatic figure Raven had crafted—stood tall before the Third Hokage, his two advisors, and the ever-shadowy Danzo Shimura. Her flowing robes, embroidered with delicate Uzumaki swirls, and the faint streaks of red in her otherwise black hair radiated nobility and authority. Her amber eyes, a product of her transformation jutsu, gleamed with barely concealed fury.
Seated behind his desk, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, sighed heavily. To his right, Danzo leaned on his cane, his single eye scrutinizing Sayuri with cold calculation. The two advisors, Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane, exchanged uneasy glances.
"I'll get straight to the point," Sayuri said, her voice sharp and commanding. "I am here to adopt Naruto Uzumaki. As a distant relative of the Uzumaki clan, it is my right to ensure his well-being."
Danzo's lips twisted into a cold smirk, his tone mocking. "And why would someone of your supposed wealth and status care about a boy cursed with the Nine-Tails? What's your angle, Lady Arata?"
Sayuri's gaze snapped to him, her eyes narrowing dangerously. "My angle, Danzo, is that he is a child—a child who has been neglected, malnourished, and treated like dirt by this village. A child who has the blood of my clan running through his veins. That is all the justification I need."
"You overestimate your position," Danzo countered, his voice like ice. "Naruto Uzumaki is no ordinary orphan. His situation is delicate, and his role in the village—"
Sayuri's laugh cut him off, sharp and biting. "His role in the village? Do you mean the role you've assigned to him, Danzo? The scapegoat for your failures? The symbol of fear you've let this village create?"
Danzo's eye narrowed, his grip tightening on his cane. "Mind your tongue, woman. You may claim ties to the Uzumaki, but you are not above the decisions of this council."
Sayuri stepped closer, her presence radiating authority as she leaned over the desk. "And you, Danzo, are not above accountability. I have seen what this village has done to him. A one-year-old child, starving, unbathed, ignored—left to fend for himself in a place that calls itself a sanctuary. If this is what you call care, then you are not fit to lead."
Homura Mitokado cleared his throat, his voice hesitant as he attempted to ease the tension. "Lady Arata, please understand—Naruto's situation is... unique. The boy carries—"
Sayuri turned on him, her amber eyes blazing. "What he carries does not justify this treatment. If anything, it makes your neglect even more inexcusable. A village that prides itself on its strength and unity should know better than to ostracize its own."
The room fell silent, the weight of her words pressing heavily on the gathered leaders. Even Koharu Utatane, who had been prepared to defend the council's actions, looked away, her expression troubled.
Hiruzen finally spoke, his voice measured but weary. "Lady Arata, I understand your concerns. But you must see that Naruto's circumstances are delicate. The village's fear—"
"Is your responsibility," Sayuri interrupted, her tone cutting. "You are the Hokage. It is your job to lead, to guide, and to protect. Instead, you have allowed fear and hatred to fester. You have let this village turn an innocent child into a pariah."
Hiruzen's jaw tightened, his hands clenching slightly on the edge of his desk. "I have tried to shield him—"
"By leaving him in an orphanage to starve?" Sayuri's voice rose, her anger evident. "Tell me, Hokage, when was the last time you even visited him? When was the last time you ensured he was fed, clothed, or treated with kindness?"
Hiruzen's silence was answer enough. Sayuri's lips curled into a bitter smile. "That's what I thought."
Danzo's cane struck the floor with a sharp tap. "Enough of this," he growled. "If you truly cared for the boy, you would understand the danger he poses. His presence alone is a threat to the village's stability."
Sayuri turned to him, her gaze cold and unyielding. "The only danger to this village, Danzo, is men like you—men who thrive on fear and control, who see children as tools instead of people."
Danzo's visible eye twitched, his face darkening with anger. "You overstep, Lady Arata."
"And you underestimate me," Sayuri shot back. Reaching into her robes, she produced a scroll, unrolling it with deliberate precision. "This is a signed decree from the Daimyō of the Land of Fire, granting me full legal rights to adopt Naruto Uzumaki. Feel free to take it up with him—after you explain why you've allowed a child under your care to suffer."
The advisors' eyes widened, and even Hiruzen seemed taken aback. Danzo's knuckles whitened as he gripped his cane, his mind clearly racing.
"You've bribed the Daimyō," Danzo accused, his voice low and dangerous.
"Bribed?" Sayuri repeated, her tone dripping with disdain. "If generosity is a crime, then yes, I've made generous contributions to the Land of Fire. Unlike you, I understand that money can be used to build, to uplift—not just to fund secret projects in the shadows."
Danzo's lips curled into a sneer, but before he could respond, Hiruzen raised a hand, his voice firm. "Enough. Lady Arata, if the Daimyō has indeed sanctioned this adoption, then I have no legal grounds to deny it."
Sayuri inclined her head slightly, her voice softening just enough to seem polite. "A wise decision, Hokage. At least one of you still has some sense left."
Danzo's eye burned with barely concealed rage, but he remained silent. Sayuri smirked faintly, knowing exactly what he was planning. As she turned to leave, she paused in the doorway, her voice cutting through the silence like a blade.
"One more thing. If I hear even a whisper of sabotage or interference in Naruto's life, you will regret it. Money may not solve all problems, but it's amazing what it can do in the right hands."
With that, she swept out of the office, leaving the room simmering with tension.
Back at the orphanage, Sayuri found Naruto sitting quietly in a corner, his small frame thin and frail. His bright blue eyes lit up as she approached, and he reached out to her instinctively, as if sensing the bond they shared.
She knelt down, scooping him into her arms. "You're safe now," she whispered. "No one will hurt you again."
Yuumi appeared beside her, watching with a rare softness in her gaze. "You did it, little fox."
"Of course I did," Sayuri said, holding Naruto close. "No one messes with my son."
Later that evening, back at the Krusty Kunai, Raven dispelled her transformation, slipping seamlessly into her life as the baby daughter of Aiko and Hajime Kamizuki. The smell of fresh pizza filled the air as her parents worked side by side, their playful banter filling the room.
"You should have seen the look on Danzo's face," Raven murmured to Yuumi, hiding a grin behind her blanket. "I thought his head was going to explode."
"Not bad," Yuumi said, smirking. "But don't get cocky. He's already got Root on your tail."
"Let him investigate," Raven said, her tone confident. "Sayuri Arata is untouchable."
Aiko's voice rang out from the kitchen. "Hajime! Stop philosophizing and help me with this dough!"
"Ah, my dear wife," Hajime said, stroking his beard. "True pizza is a reflection of the soul. To knead the dough is to knead one's spirit."
Raven sighed, rolling her eyes. "Some things never change."
Now, at just two years old, Kushina juggled three distinct identities while also retaining custody of her son, Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto was currently under the care of one of her Shadow Clones—an effortless task given her immense chakra reserves. At this age, Kushina already possessed nearly 20 standard Kakashi units of chakra, making such feats trivial for her.
What surprised her most, however, wasn't her newfound power or responsibilities, but the sheer number of old perverts in this world eager to buy her Yuri Paradise books. It was a bizarre and unexpected market she hadn't anticipated—but one that proved oddly lucrative.
