Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 97: The Main Event

As time progressed, the atmosphere at the banquet reached its peak, with the great hall bathed in serenity. The City Lord's Lady was graciously offering wine to her husband, while the dancers, drenched in sweat, performed for the guests.

Unbeknownst to the crowd, people dressed in black had already unknowingly surrounded the entire hall. As the cup in the eldest son's hand smashed to the ground, these figures in black instantly charged into the hall. Indifferent to whom they encountered, they slashed at anyone they saw, and soon, the grand hall was filled with blood and screams.

It was as if a thick ink had been splashed across a precious painting, utterly disfiguring the scene. Continue your journey with My Virtual Library Empire

The City Lord and the second son immediately fixed their eyes on the eldest son, who remained composed. The City Lord coldly asked, "What do you intend to do?"

Upon hearing this, the weak eldest son stood up from the table and looked at his two closest kin, his tone icy, "Nothing much, just reclaiming what should have been mine."

"Hmph! Your belongings? There was never anything of yours here."

"It seems you have forgotten how you came to be the City Lord. This position belonged to my mother's family. You deceived my mother and killed my maternal grandfather's family to have your today. As my mother's only child, this position rightfully belongs to me," the eldest son cried out somewhat hysterically.

His intense emotional turmoil caused his pale face to flush, twisting his features grotesquely.

"Big brother, with your condition—even if you take that position, what good will it do? You should take care of your health first," the second son said with composed calm.

"Shut up! How my body ended up like this, you must know. But there is always hope under heaven. The Immortal has descended to this world anew; my illness is but a minor issue for a powerful Immortal. As long as I take that position, I will find the Immortal and restore my health," the eldest son muttered to himself, his heart seemingly whispering ceaselessly.

"Kill them to find the Immortal, find the Immortal to restore health."

The eldest son's eyes briefly flickered with an imperceptible red glow, fueling his excitement. He ordered the loyal followers his mother left him, "Kill them all!"

However, just then, the sound of Arrows echoed from outside, and countless arrows flew into the room. The black-clad figures, wielding sharp blades, were powerless to stop them and were overwhelmingly shot dead on the spot.

The eldest son incredulously widened his eyes, staring at his smiling younger brother; he suddenly understood that all his actions had not escaped him.

"Was it you? A loser who couldn't even protect his own beloved woman, how could it be possible?" the frail eldest son collapsed to the ground, his face still marked by shock as he murmured.

"Every move you made was under my watch. You always thought too highly of yourself, believing me to be a healthy good-for-nothing, but did you ever consider how long I've endured, watching my beloved woman taken by our own father? It tore my heart apart, and from that day I vowed to become the most powerful man in the world."

"I could have waited, waited for your illness to strike, for father to age, but the arrival of the Immortal changed everything, adding unpredictability to the situation. I knew I couldn't wait any longer, so I deliberately relaxed the guards to let you easily storm into the hall," the second son said with a smug smile on his face.

"Tomorrow everyone will know that you killed the City Lord, and I, who quelled the rebellion, will smoothly take over the City Lord's position," the second son said, his handsome face contorting darkly.

He turned, his eyes feverishly fixing on the woman by his father, excitedly stating, "After tonight, Wan'er, no one can stop us anymore."

Having said that, he snatched a weapon from one of the Black Fiend Guards who rushed in and plunged the sword into his elder brother.

Blood instantly flowed onto the floor of the hall. The eldest son's eyes widened, staring at his brother, his mouth slightly open as if wanting to say something, but no sound came out. Gradually, there was no more sound.

The second son then pulled out the Treasured Sword, holding the blood-stained sword and stepping toward his father, his face twisted as he declared, "Now it's your turn, my dear father."

"It seems you are still unwilling to spare your aged father," the City Lord said with a light sigh.

"Of course, not. You are a selfish, cold-hearted person. In your eyes, we are not your children, but merely tools to sustain your rule. You knew that Wan'er and I truly loved each other, yet you took her away from me, merely to warn me not to challenge your authority," the second son said, his previously gentle demeanor gone, his handsome face twisted, eyes shining with a red glint.

"Alas! It seems our father-son bond has indeed ended, but no matter, as long as I can find the Immortal, I can live forever, and then I can have more children," the City Lord said softly.

These words caused the second son to pause suddenly, a bad premonition hitting him. As he turned, he found Commander Liu, his most trusted, had already drawn his weapon, his eyes filled with icy murderous intent.

"You!" he suddenly realized. It turned out the commander had always been his father's man.

With a bleak smile, he said, "So, everything was in your sight. You just watched as we brothers destroyed each other. You truly are a ruthless man."

"Make it quick, don't let him suffer too much," the City Lord commanded coldly.

A blade flashed, and a head fell to the ground. Blood gushed out, staining the red carpet even redder.

The City Lord seated himself on his throne. The banquet finally drew to a close, ending with his victory, but his heart was far from joyful, filled instead with loneliness.

"Clap! Clap!" Applause arose from outside, and the City Lord, startled, raised his head to look towards the door. There, dressed in various robes, four Taoists slowly entered the blood-stained hall.

"What a spectacular drama, father killing son, son killing father, brother killing brother, such a tumultuous family saga. Well worth the stage I've set for you," the old woman's aged voice echoed through the hall, her words sinking the City Lord's heart.

He looked at the four odd characters in horror, suddenly recalling Commander Liu's reports, and exclaimed in surprise, "It's you!"
