Chapter 317: Sword in the Stone
A massive force manifested in Lu Yu's hands, carrying the aura of the Law, and shot towards the Skeleton Phantom.
The Skeleton Phantom looked at the powerful force surging towards it unperturbed, with a face neither sad nor joyful. It was well aware that its projection could not withstand such a force. Blocked by the streams of time and destiny, its memories could not return to its body.
Yet, being a character of significant caliber, even at this juncture it still had means. Ebony flames ignited around its body, carrying the scent of death, sweeping through heaven and earth. Anywhere they touched turned into a wasteland. In an instant, a thousand miles around it transformed into the realm of death.
A rich scent of death surged from the ground, instantly transforming the surrounding creatures into beings of death. Their demise made the aura of death on this land even more terrifying.
In just a short time, this area had become a barren land. If not managed properly, it would grow like a malignant tumor, eventually contaminating the entire world.
Seeing this, Lu Yu slightly frowned. This indeed presented a tricky problem. If left unattended, as the Land of Death expanded, terrifying creatures from beyond could use this place as a stepping stone to descend upon this world. That would be a true catastrophe.
"These beings are truly more bizarre than the next," Lu Yu sighed lightly.
Seeing this, Arthur asked with concern, "Mr. Lu, is this thing very troubling?"
Honestly, the scene had greatly shaken Arthur. Such a vast area turning into a bizarre land of death in the blink of an eye, along with Lu Yu's sigh, made his heart tighten. Throughout their journey, Lu Yu's strength had deeply impressed him. Seeing such a formidable presence also sigh made him worried.
"It's troublesome. If this thing spreads, the entire world will fall into death," Lu Yu said gravely.
Arthur looked at the land filled with the scent of death. If the whole world turned into this, it would indeed be a tremendous disaster.
"Let's go, someone is coming," Lu Yu whispered in Arthur's ear as he was lost in thought.
Turning his head, Arthur saw Lu Yu walking to another place and hurriedly followed. In this land, only Mr. Lu could make him feel at ease.
Shortly after they left, colorful twilight fell from the sky, revealing several figures on the ground, dressed in magnificent attire, men and women of various forms, glowing with the radiance of Divine Spirits, the most powerful beings in this world.
"Such a terrifying scent of death. I feel as if I am witnessing the withering of all things, the destruction of the world," a long-bearded old man exclaimed. He was the God of Knowledge and Wisdom of this world, old in years and strong in power.
"I can sense that this must be the influence caused by the death of a powerful being. I didn't expect it to be this terrifying. I wonder what kind of powerful being it was, and who could possibly have the means to kill it," a goddess with a graceful figure holding a golden harp said.
Such a powerful figure, yet they, as Divine Spirits, knew nothing of it, making their once-proud statuses seem like a huge joke.
"Hmph, this force, though different in nature from those Evil Demons that come from beyond, is filled with malice. These despicable creatures really treat our world like their own backyard," a muscular man, bare-chested, said authoritatively.
"But this mysterious powerful force is filled with a comforting aura, unlike the previous Evil Demons from beyond," the God of Knowledge and Wisdom gently plucked a strand of Lu Yu's lingering scent from the air, sensed it carefully, and then spoke.
"That may not be certain. Have you forgotten the one who called himself the 'Lord'? He too had a powerful and holy force, yet he overtly declared that we are all false gods, and only he is the sole True God in this world," the robust man voiced a differing opinion.
Once these words were spoken, the faces of several Divine Spirits turned sour. Being called false gods while he claimed to be the only True God was not a welcome matter. This touched their own interests, and even Divine Spirits could not avoid worldly concerns. That is why they had restricted the preaching of this so-called Lord's religion in their various territories.
"Let's not talk about this unpleasant topic anymore. Let's think about how to deal with this thing in front of us," the God of Knowledge and Wisdom said with a pained expression.
This region, already transformed into a land of death, appeared to contain even more powerful forces making it so that even the Divine Spirit's efforts to alter it were in vain—hence his reminder.
Finally focusing their attention, the Divine Spirits began to ponder how to handle the present situation. The land, filled with the scent of death, needed proper handling to avoid chaos.
The Goddess with the harp tried stepping on the land of death. The moment she did, the cold scent of death seeped through the soles of her feet. A brilliant divine light shone on her as she gently strummed her harp, the beautiful melody echoing throughout the land, carrying a special force that expelled the scent of death.
However, the death scents seemed like a clinging poison. No matter how the Goddess wielded her Divine Power, the scents remained immovable.
The Goddess furrowed her beautiful brows. She could distinctly feel that beneath this land lay a powerful force, and it was because of this force that she could not restore the land overridden by death. As time passed, the scent of death grew more intense, even forming a thin, grey mist—the extreme concentration of the scent of death.
