Chapter 316: Human-Faced Crow
He had never felt as desperate as he did then; fortunately, the Divine Spirit's attention was not on him, or else given his reaction at the time, he would no longer be in this world.
"It seems they were also awakened by the recent commotion; I don't know what kind of being could have annihilated her follower," the shadow said worriedly, this mysterious figure beyond his understanding, even the sight of those sky-reaching flames made his heart palpitate immensely.
The man in black, however, didn't care about these things; he was still immersed in his previous fear.
The shadow glanced at the contractee, who had been scared senseless, cursed inwardly at the fool, but also acknowledged that only such a fool could become his partner.
"Don't worry, in a few days, I will send the old man to his death, and I guess my master will be very pleased with this pastry and might even bless us," the shadow patiently consoled him.
Perhaps it was these words that had an effect, as the man in black, who had been somewhat out of his senses, finally regained his sanity. His eyes flashed with madness as he murmured, "You're right, we can soon send the old man to his death."
The barefooted ascetic looked up at the sky, sensing the sweeping spiritual power, and a mocking smile tugged at his lips as he muttered, "A bunch of pretenders, daring to be so unreserved."
The will of the Celestial Gods in the sky took a long time to gradually dissipate. This time they returned without success, and the world seemed very clean, devoid of any power different from theirs; but the scene of the former battle was still vivid, indicating that the recent conflict was not illusory, it only meant that these people's methods far surpassed the probing of the Divine Spirits.
"Damn it, who was fighting here!" an annoyed voice rose from the sky, its powerful sound spreading across the world, and the sky sparkled with dazzling thunder due to his roar.
This was a Divine Spirit worshiped in a territory in the north, known for controlling the power of thunder and being notoriously temperamental. He was now so aggravated that the sky continuously thundered.
Arthur gently covered his ears, a wry smile on his face. Although this Celestial God often flew into a rage, making the people of this world gradually grow accustomed to the thunder that resonated overhead, today's thunder seemed particularly numerous, and louder than usual.
"Who is that, making such a noise?" Lu Yu was also jolted by the loud noise, causing his ears to ache.
"Mr. Lu, this is one of the most powerful Divine Spirits in our world, the God of War of the North, who controls thunder," Arthur hurriedly explained to Lu Yu.
"God of War of the North, truly noisy!" Lu Yu said, somewhat displeased.
Then he gently pointed at the sky, following the causal connections to locate the true body of the God of War of the North and used a Freezing Spell, abruptly cutting off the noisy sound, silencing the celestials.
Although they each claimed to be all-knowing and omnipotent, it was merely bluster; faced with such a bizarre scene, they were all dumbfounded and uncertain of what to do.
Lu Yu's Freezing Curse was an Imperial Decree of Law, words followed by laws, activating the rules between heaven and earth, hence invisible if not witnessed in person.
The gods searched the world but couldn't find who had silenced the God of War of the North, while the War God himself, frozen within his divine kingdom by the Freezing Curse, tried all means to break free from this frightening bind, but could only stand like a statue within his own divine kingdom.
Countless Divine Spirits, watching through their own eyes, saw the War God in the divine kingdom and couldn't help but burst into laughter, as this hot-tempered War God often used his power of thunder to annoy the gods and was one of the least popular among them.
"Such a terrifying power, to silence the War God without a sound," a Divine Spirit remarked after the initial laughter.
This power was beyond their understanding, yet driven by their divine instincts, they saw the Great Dao Principles contained within, and the thoughtful among them seemed to have found a direction.
Since the Divine Spirits of this world rose to divine positions through faith, their comprehension and mastery of Laws were extremely poor. This wasn't apparent when everyone was at the same level, but now that someone had displayed a more powerful force, it naturally incited a desire to progress.
"The power of the Law is truly terrible; although we could touch the Law at the moment we ignite the divine fire to shape our own divine office, I never thought someone could control and use the Law so adeptly," Lu Yu's Freezing Spell had opened a new world for them, leading to speculative musings.
"Fortunately, the person acting seems not to harbor ill will, otherwise the War God might have been in mortal danger this time."
"Alas! I always feel that the number of uncontrollable powers in this world is increasing and becoming stronger. I have a premonition that this world is about to experience a monumental event."
"We Divine Spirits are closely related to the world; if such a monumental change indeed occurs, we will likely be the first to be impacted. Let's all hurry back and strive to improve our strength. After all, we have lived together for so long; I hope not to see a future without each other's presence," said a very senior Divine Spirit.
The other Divine Spirits also nodded in agreement, sharing the same feeling. This was the world giving them a warning, prompting them to collectively awaken and scan the world in an attempt to grasp these uncontrollable powers, only to return without success.
