Chapter 22: The first play through 2
As I returned to my apartment, I collapsed onto the couch, exhaustion creeping in after the intense fight. Taking a deep breath, I decided it was time to sift through the notifications that had popped up during the battle with the stray devil.
[Fire Magic: Lv MAX]
[Ice Magic: Lv MAX]
New Unique Skill Unlocked
[Frost Flames: Lv 1/100]
Flames imbued with the properties of ice the effectiveness of the skill can be increased with leveling up.
Curious about the new skill, I conjured a small flame in the palm of my hand. The light blue fire flickered softly, its icy aura contrasting with the heat I could feel radiating from it. A small smile tugged at my lips. Frost Flames… this could be interesting.
Setting that aside for now, I opened my status screen to check my updated stats.
Name: Christopher/Chikayoshi Kageyami
Titles: None
Body: 1065
Mind: 44
Spirit: 40
Magic: 7543
I couldn't help but grin. The jump in my stats was staggering. Despite the danger, fighting and devouring that devil had been worth it. But I couldn't let myself get too cocky.
I decided to test my newfound abilities, focusing on my mana. Channeling my magic, I activated [Mana Manipulation], suppressing the immense demonic power now flowing through my body. With the [Devour] skill, I had also gained the ability to suppress any foreign energy I absorbed. Slowly but surely, the oppressive aura of demonic power leaking from me vanished, concealed completely.
Satisfied that everything was under control, I leaned back, letting out a long sigh. The day had been insane for now, though, all I wanted was rest. Without another thought, I headed to my bedroom and fell into bed, sleep claiming me almost immediately.
-later-
I decided to take a walk today. With my stats in a good place and my beginner magic maxed out, I figured a light day would do me some good before heading back to school tomorrow. His plan for tomorrow was simple check out the atmosphere, see how Rias and Sona act, and decide if I needed to disappear if they started asking too many questions.
As I strolled along the quiet streets, my surroundings began to feel familiar. My train of thought was interrupted when my eyes landed on a dumb-looking guy with messy brown hair walking alongside a stunning girl with long black hair.
Issei and Raynare.
I felt a wave of realization hit me like a brick. This was very early in season one, even before Issei died and everything kicked off. That meant I had time to act, but if I interfered, I'd completely derail the plot of this world.
Raynare glanced my way briefly, her eyes narrowing, likely sensing something off about me. I quickly suppressed my magic, acting as if I was just another bystander on a casual walk. By the time her gaze settled back on me, I had already turned away, pretending not to notice them.
As I walked away, I let out a quiet chuckle. This world deserved to see its plot shredded. Besides, I could already think of a dozen ways to use this situation to my advantage.
I pieced together the timeline and location in my head. If memory served, Issei's death would happen in the evening, near a fountain in a park. It didn't take me long to find the park or the fountain. With plenty of time to spare, I wandered the area, careful not to get too close and draw attention.
If Raynare confronted me, I'd play the part of a neutral party, feigning curiosity about why a Fallen Angel was causing trouble in devil territory. It wasn't a perfect plan, but it'd buy me time.
As the sun began to set, a faint pulse of magic washed over me. I frowned, then smirked. A ward, no doubt, to keep regular humans away. Too bad for them I wasn't exactly normal anymore.
Making my way back to the fountain, I arrived just in time to see the scene unfold. A glowing red spear pierced Issei's stomach, and he crumpled to the ground, coughing up blood. Raynare stood over him, her expression cold as she muttered something I couldn't hear. With a flap of her wings, she ascended into the air, her gaze briefly flicking to me. She frowned again, likely confused by my presence, but made no move to stop me as I approached Issei's dying body.
I hesitated for only a moment before touching him. Immediately activating [Devour].
Skill Gained
[Boosted Gear: Lv 1/100]
The power of the Red Dragon Emperor. This ability multiplies your power every 10 seconds. Further powers of the dragon can be unlocked as this skill levels up.
As Issei's body disintegrated into dust, I noticed the flyer in his pocket fall to the ground. Without hesitation, I picked it up and incinerated it with a small flicker of fire magic.
Raynare watched me for another moment before flying off, likely realizing she'd already drawn enough attention operating in devil territory.
With the job done, I didn't stick around. I turned and ran, making sure not to look back. Whatever fallout this caused wasn't my concern.
-later-
The next morning, I woke up, got ready for school, and headed straight to class. The day felt unusually tense. Throughout the day, I noticed more stares than usual. Women looked at me with curiosity or interest, while guys glared at me like I'd personally insulted their ancestors. What really caught my attention, though, were the pointed gazes from the devils in the school. They were more frequent than on Friday, and some lingered uncomfortably long.
I played it cool, pretending not to notice, and when classes ended, I left campus without any drama.
As I walked home, I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. The streets were empty, yet the sensation of eyes on me was undeniable. My suspicion was confirmed when a barrier silently erected around me, cutting me off from the rest of the world.
Turning around, I wasn't surprised to see Raynare, but I was surprised to see she'd brought reinforcements.
Four Fallen Angels stood before me, their expressions cold and murderous.
[Raynare – The Fallen]
The Cadre's Servant
Race: Fallen Angel
[Dohnaseek – The Fallen]
The Forgettable Fallen
Race: Fallen Angel
[Kalawarner – The Fallen]
The Big-Titty Fallen
Race: Fallen Angel
[Mittelt – The Fallen]
The Gothic Loli Fallen
Race: Fallen Angel
"Can I help you?" I asked, deadpan, as they began to approach.
"Don't play dumb, magician," Dohnaseek sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "You might pretend to be a regular human, but we know exactly what you are."
I glanced at the light spears forming in their hands and felt my patience thinning. Those could absolutely kill me if I wasn't careful. What a hassle.
"That doesn't explain why a bunch of grunts decided to ambush me," I said flatly, watching their faces tighten with anger. "I've done nothing to the Grigori, and this is Devil territory. You're way out of line here."
"You can only blame yourself for this," Raynare snapped, her voice cold. "You're the one who took the Sacred Gear."
Ah, so they already know. I let out a sigh. "Well, if you're here to die, who am I to stop you?"
Her eyes narrowed in anger, and without hesitation, she hurled her light spear at me.
Reacting instantly, I summoned a massive wave of fire, engulfing the area and forcing the Fallen to scatter.
"Raynare, you really screwed up," I said as I let loose more flames, pouring magic into the attack and igniting the battlefield.
The Fallen managed to dodge most of it, though some weren't quick enough to escape unscathed. Dohnaseek, in particular, took the brunt of the attack, his chest scorched. I didn't give him time to recover. I dashed forward, punching straight through his chest before activating [Devour], consuming his light magic and Fallen Angel abilities.
[Devour Complete: Dohnaseek]
[Light magic - lv 1/100]
[Fallen Angel Biology]
As his body disintegrated into ash, I turned to face the remaining three. Their expressions were a mix of shock and rage.
Mittelt rushed toward me, conjuring a light spear, but she wasn't fast enough. I grabbed her by the head, igniting her with flames. Her screams echoed as I activated [Devour] again, absorbing her power before her body turned to dust.
Kalawarner, seeing the carnage, turned to flee, but I wasn't about to let her go. I raised my hand, summoning an enormous torrent of fire that engulfed her entirely. She burned alive, and just before she succumbed, I reached her and finished the job with [Devour], adding her strength to my own.
Now, only Raynare remained.
She froze, terror clear in her eyes. Before she could react, I lunged forward, grabbing her by the neck. With a swift twist, I snapped it and used [Devour] one final time.
Secret quest completed
[Crushed the first boss]
Objective: Defeat the four Fallen Angels – Completed
Optional Objective: Eliminate all their exorcists, including Freed Sellzen – Incomplete
Reward: title [Fallen Slayer] added, 10 gacha tokens, [Enemy of the Fallen]
As the barrier dissipated, I stood in the now-silent street, staring at the quest window.
What the hell? I thought, reading over my rewards. Then it hit me. Azazel.
Why wouldn't he retaliate? In the original story, Rias was the one who dealt with Raynare, and no one would dare touch her without risking Sirzechs' wrath. But in my case? I was just a rogue mage with no allies or protection. I'd given him every reason to crush me like an ant.
Panic threatened to set in, but [Gamer's Mind] activated, forcing me to calm down and think. I was already in deep. If I didn't act decisively, I was as good as dead.
The optional objective flashed in my mind. If I was already screwed, I might as well take full advantage of the situation and power up even more.
"Fine," I muttered, wiping the ash from my hands. "If I'm going down, I'm taking as much as I can with me."
Before leaving, I took extra care to erase all evidence of the battle. The last thing I needed was more trouble than I already had.
-later-
The moment I arrived at the church, I immediately crafted a barrier, mimicking the one the Fallen Angels had used against me earlier, encasing the entire church within it.
Skill Created
[Magic Barriers - Lv 1/100]
Allows you to create barriers with magic. The strength of the barrier depends on the amount of magic infused. Barriers are enhanced further as the skill levels up.
With the barrier in place, I wasted no time. Flames erupted from my hands, surging through the church and engulfing everything in their path. Screams echoed briefly before being drowned out by the crackling fire, the building quickly becoming a blazing inferno.
As I walked back toward the entrance, the charred remains of the once-pristine church surrounding me, a strange feeling prickled at the edge of my awareness. Something wasn't right.
I barely had time to react before I spun around, catching the tip of a glowing light sword inches from my face.
The wielder was a tall man, his body scorched and covered in severe burns from the flames I'd unleashed. His eyes were wild, his expression twisted with insanity. Burned patches of silver hair still clung to his head, and despite his injuries, his grip on the weapon was unrelenting.
Freed Sellzen.
"Persistent, aren't you?" I muttered, gripping his sword and ignoring the pain as the light blade sizzled against my hand.
Before he could react, I reached out and seized him by the neck. He thrashed violently, but I tightened my grip and activated [Devour], draining the remnants of his power as his neck snapped under my grasp.
[Devour: Freed Sellzen]
[Swordsmanship - lv 1/100]

Freed's body disintegrated into ash, and the notification I'd been expecting appeared.
[Crushed the first boss]
Objective: Defeat the four Fallen Angels – Completed
Optional Objective: Eliminate all their exorcists, including Freed Sellzen – Completed
Reward: title [Fallen Slayer] added, 10 gacha tokens, [Enemy of the Fallen], dimension key, mystery key, dungeon key, twin wolf gauntlet.
"What the hell?" I muttered, scanning through the list of rewards. "I went through all that... for a bunch of keys?"
Annoyed, I checked the descriptions of the rewards.

[Mystery key] - tier ???
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
When I clicked on the [Mystery Key], all I got was an error message, barring me from accessing any information about it.
"Weird..." I muttered, though I knew better than to dwell on it.
Deciding to test the [Twin Wolf Gauntlets], I selected the item. In an instant, a pair of gauntlets materialized over my arms. They were sleek and intimidating, their deep red and black design radiating power. The sharp, claw-like tips gleamed as I flexed my hands, testing their strength.
I smiled. These were definitely worth it.
But as I glanced at the darkened sky, I realized how late it had gotten. The church was nothing but smoldering ruins now, and I had no doubt the consequences of my actions would come crashing down on me soon.
I had no choice. I needed to pack my things and leave town before anyone came looking for me.
Time to disappear.
XxX
I originally wanted he to fight Rias and sona group and well they would've ended up like the fallen but that would only get Christopher in a worst situation. To clear up something Azazel won't go out of his way to go after Christopher, but if he has a chance, he will kill him. Christopher essentially kill his kin with no propagation in his eyes.
Christopher will go back to Kuoh eventually…
Unfortunately, no more highlights in my stories since this app has to be retarded every time I highlight something.
