Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1114: Testing unique affinities

[Eon's POV: ]

Finishing the lunch, we came back to the first floor. Though, this time, every one of us was here including Miss Moon.

The room of magical elements had a unique artifact where one could know about the affinities that they possessed, something similar to the affinity measuring crystal that was used by the masses outside or the special crystal that also detected the unique energies one had affinity with present in the academy.

Different from those artifacts though, this artifact detected an affinity for elements of all kinds.

"The crystal will glow with a green light if you have an affinity for something specific, overpowering your affinity for something else, showing the most prominent affinity you hold on the display.

Then, it will show the affinity you have for the rest of the elements with an accuracy of seventy percent."

The way it was designed was pretty much the same as the other crystals that detected elemental affinities of the others.

A certain code inside of it reacted when it received a reaction from the input. When one places their hand on the surface of this thing, they detect something that they have and match it with the data inside of it to give a near-accurate result.

It wasn't simply about the results, but the accuracy with which this artifact could produce them. Also, unlike most of the artifacts that were present in the outside world, the data that this artifact possessed was far beyond anything.

'Not only does this contain the forbidden knowledge of the demons and the gods, it also contains knowledge that even I am not aware of.'

When I last tested with this artifact, I was able to find out I had an affinity for summoning as well, but the affinity was so low that it was ranked far beyond the affinity for cooking, magic, magic archery, or something even closer to that.

This affinity was different from the other affinities as well since it was very specific but there might be some changes to it now.

'Since I have awakened the abilities of the Stigma, I might also have an affinity for something else, though testing comes first.'

I do not want to come to any conclusions just yet… There is still a lot that I have to find out about the powers that I ended up using instinctively.

There are also many things I have to test, and since we are here in this tower, all of that is going to be possible. Your adventure continues at My Virtual Library Empire

However, there is still a lot that I have to take care of.

Starting with the testing of everyone's affinities including Anna's, I want to create a personalized training plan for all of them and then divide them into various teams. Giving the positions and such for the testing would be a better idea, but there is still something that I will have to take care of after that.

"We will go in the order we decided so that everyone can know about their own affinities. The elders will go first, then Miss Moon, then the presidents, and then we will continue after them.

Anna, I know you don't like that you will be going last, but that is how it is for now, alright? I hope you can understand."

I was keeping Anna last for a reason. There was something I wanted to see first, so I wanted grandpa and elder Aunt to go first and only then would I push Anna and the rest of them.

They would have to look after their mental states though. While the artifact is safer than most of the other such artifacts present in this tower, there is a great mental power that one requires to operate these things.

While it is not going to be dangerous for any of them, they are going to feel quite a bit of a headache when they finish with their testing, and then they would have to rest for a while.

'When they go to sleep, they would only wake up in the morning so I would not have to worry about them finding out about what we do at night as well.'

Anyway, it was already time to start and since Anna understood we were doing this for her, she did not mind this at all.

She simply nodded her head at Grandpa and Grandpa placed his hand on the crystal that was as big as an eighth of the room.

"I just have to place my hand on this, right?"

"Yes, Grandpa."

The process was simple since it was automated. Anyone wanting to test their affinities simply had to place their hands on it and the artifact would do the rest by itself.

It would even use one's energy when it needs to and, if that was not enough, it would even access one's mental bodies to get the information.

'It was not good if one needed to hide something from the others, but this artifact was not something one could extract any kind of information from, so even if we were using this, I would not know anything they did not want me to know about them.'

It would scan the entire body of the person as well so the artifact itself was not something one needed to worry about.

-Ooooooooong!

The process was simple.

In the room filled with various elements on display, in the room that my master created before anything else, there was something that we had used many times in the past.

Master had shown me how she possessed an affinity for countless things. There were so many things that she had an affinity for due to her experiences and her multiple lives that even I do not know how many things she was able to do.

Whenever we tried testing her affinities, the artifact would go blank and then, it would display everything that was present inside of it at such a speed that even just reading those things took a mental toll on me.

'It was crazy how she was not a fictional being with that kind of powers.'

Before her powers, my affinity for a bunch of things was nothing.

"Should I keep my hands on this or should I take it away?"

Grandpa was the first one to test his affinities, and right when he placed his hands on the crystal, the crystal started glowing with a certain blue light, following which a green light appeared on the crystal.

"You should keep them there, but if you feel tired, there is no need to keep them touched."

One needed to focus when the artifact was functioning, but there was also the feature where they did not have to. I had activated it, and though it consumed more power, it was something that we could use at times like these.

'Back when there was only the master and me, we were able to do this as a kind of training, using the artifact to train my mental body and to also know a little more about me each time.'

It was a good practice and thanks to that, I was able to advance in many areas. If it wasn't for this artifact, I would not have known I had the affinity for certain things either… things like calligraphy or keeping a certain kind of record of certain things.

There is something special about the artifact itself that allows one to know more about the things that they will know in the future only, so the artifact was more magical to me than many other things in this tower.

Still, after one point, even the artifact became nothing more than a tool for practice as we had learned about all the things that I had an affinity with at that time.

"Eon, is this thing really that special? I mean, aren't affinities something you ultimately build up yourself?"

Nature Vs. Nurture.

The debate about whether talent is internal or external has been going on since ancient times. Some believed that there were only select things that one was born to do, things that people were innately good at, while some believed that affinities, aside from certain affinities, were built with life experiences.

When it comes to swordsmanship or any kind of weapon arts or even magic, as long as there was a basic drive, an affinity could be built up through practice and through self-actualization. 'There have been many untalented individuals that somehow made a name in the field that they had no talent for at the start, and I look up to them as well.

But, that did not mean they were all right when assuming the affinities are built through experiences.

"I am not saying affinities are just innate or just experiential. They are something that is present in each and every individual, only through building them up, only by working on them could you actually refine them and bring them to a higher level than before."

Just like in swordsmanship, only by practicing could one refine their art and gain a higher level of understanding.

Just like how there were natural limitations of the mortal body, a limit to how much they could grow by themselves or through constant practice, there was also something like that when it comes to affinity.

"If we don't even know what we have an affinity for, how can we even start working towards it?"

I am not saying once we know about what we are good at, we can become much better at them.

"This just shows a possibility."

It isn't right every time either, so this is not too reliable. But still, it is something helpful.

Testing the affinities would help them in various ways as well and since we have to improve while we are here, this is going to be helpful.

"Let's at least try it."

We can think about what to do with the new knowledge after we finish this…
