Insect Tamer's Ascension

Chapter 121: 15 Days later (2)- New ways of ability progression

The days forward, Theo passed his time in a very planned way.

Most of his day went in training his mantis's abilities. It was the most vital work he had to do in order to progress further.

With the evolution's requirements, Theo had to not only defeat something 3 levels above the mantis but also upgrade the skills to level 4 which was a daunting task.

He knew that killing something that was level 7 was not possible without leveling up the skills. It was the only way.

Not only that, Theo also gave a lot of different kinds of ores to the mantis in hopes of getting another evolution option if possible and to increase its size even by an inch.

Till now, it was not a successful process but with so little choices in hand, Theo did not give up.

Not only that, he gave quite a bit of hours to help his brother level up and upgrade his calf's abilities.

Theo had made someone arrange yet another spot for training which was inside the castle.

They had found a bigger room which could accommodate a small fighting ring, a lot of exercise equipment Theo and Bram used, and the training dummies for them and the beasts.

They first needed to take some permissions from the Baron and the Baroness and after agreeing to keep a guard with them while they trained in it, Theo and Bram got their own training room.

From the point of hearing about everything from Elira, Bram's attendant, Theo had made sure to keep Bram with him and try training him to become stronger both mentally and physically.

The softness in Bram's heart was what made everyone love and cherish him but as they say, a coin always has two sides.

The very softness that made everyone like him was also making him weak in front of others. Theo was not having it anymore, he needed his brother to become better with him, it was only natural to do so with how innocent the boy was.

Days passed and Theo tried in completing one of the basic requirements of the Mantis's evolution.

It was the consumption of blood, when the mantis was done with it. The requirement showed as 'completed' in the screen.

But to everyone's surprise, when Theo looked at the requirement 3 days later, he found that the litres that were showing as consumed and completed were now showing as incomplete.

About a litre had vanished from it and it made Theo find out a vital information.

It seemed the requirements were a lot more logical than it seemed, if the mantis had consumed so much blood, it was likely that it was using it as energy in its body and excreting it out soon.

Such was the case that happened with him, it made Theo realize that each of the requirements was only going to be complete with time, not early.

Even the consumption ones had some unwritten rules like this situation that Theo had to find out and write in his research book of his affinity.

In these days, Theo kept practicing his skills without trying to level up anymore, he wanted to kill a level 7 beast for completing the requirement, not level 8.

His ability progression was getting some pace now, all Theo had to do was make the mantis use the skills again and again.

But after some time, he found out another good way of increasing the percentage faster.

It seemed the ability progression was not just a 'number', it was real time progression of the mantis's abilities.

Theo theorized that in normal, when the mantis used the skill again and again, it helped the mantis become faster. The moment the cooldown was over, the mantis attacked now.

There were even cases when the mantis was already midair toward the target and then when the cooldown was over, the attack hit.

That was the point when Theo realized that progressing with things other than repetition was also good.

He started helping the mantis devise new ways to use its skills. There were not many that came in mind but with a few they had already found, the percentage gain was a lot more than usual.

Theo noted every single theory he had and the things he noted that were a bit too unique.

And when it was time to study in the library, he first read his notes and tried finding topics similar to this one in the gigantic library with the gigantic books.

The metallic strike skill which was at quarter toward level 3 at first was now near midway. But Theo also leveled that skill with the others too because even though there was no mention of it in terms of the evolution.

The skill itself was the most vital one, it was the finishing or the starting blow in each fight, the other skills were just something that were in support of this one.

As for the Spore lash skill which was at level 2 right now, Theo still didn't take a lot of chance in using it in an enclosed space.

He only practiced it in the open clearings of the forest's outskirts where not many but the beasts of that area passed by.

In just 5 days progression, it quartered toward level 3, just a little behind the main ability.

As for the last one, it had a more passive way of leveling up where Theo wasn't able to do much. It was only able to upgrade less than quarter toward level 3 in the 5 days.

Although that was what Theo had thought before, but soon, he found out another unique point which helped him diversify his knowledge in the topic of moss but also in the particular skill 'Regenerative moss' too.

Theo found a way to make the regenerative moss come back faster than what time it should usually take.

And the cherry on the top was that he only found it by chance.

It was...
