Infinite Potential System

Chapter 543: Erased From Existence?

William nodded and produced six Spirit Jades without another word. It took everything within him to avoid haggling for a better deal.

The short trip from the Quake Dungeon reminded him that he was still an Ascension Realm Cultivator, even more so in his condition. One wrong move and he would become a Magical Beast's meal, and if he was going to reach Treymon he needed a guide.

I need to find an auction as soon as possible and hope that they have Superior Calming Liquid. William steeled his resolve and dropped the Spirit Jades into the man's outstretched palm.

Whether the tear that streamed down his face afterwards was from the pain in his Sea of Consciousness or from spending money, only he knew the truth. The man gave William a simple nod and stored the funds away in a Space Ring made with at least Tier 8 Arrays.

Unless he caught the item in transit to the Spatial Artifact, the Spirit Jades would be irrecoverable. William's mood soured even further knowing that he wouldn't be able to get his money back.

-You're thinking of stealing from him? Right now? In your current state?

Of course not! What kind of person do you think I am?

It would have been after he was dropped off, obviously.

While the System judged William once more for being himself, the man handed William a token that he called a payment receipt. "The trip will take a day and a half with my Summon. We can either leave now or you can wait until the same time tomorrow. What will it be?"

Over a full day? I didn't expect it to take so long... I'll have to let Professor Tenningbrew know that I won't make it to the next class.

Either the guy running the taxi service has a slow Summoned Beast or Treymon is further away than William thought. Whichever it was, William preferred the former option over the latter.

"Let's go now."

The man nodded and led William out of the gate, then proceeded to summon a metal bird-like Magical Beast called a Scatterstorm Eagle. Its wingspan was a mere twenty-five meters despite the pressure it exuded, and making eye contact with the creature made William feel dizzy for some reason.

His interest only deepened when the Scatterstorm Eagle opened up its beak, "Young lad, I'd advise you not look me in the eye again. My innate perception is a bit too much for you. Get on so we can leave."

It adjusted its gaze downward and to the left, taking keen interest in what was curled up on William's shoulder. Even though he was concealed by the Illusion Element, it was clear that the Eagle could sense Atticus.

William was taken aback, but he still averted his eyes like the Eagle advised. Not only had the Magical Beast affected him with just a glance, but it could also see Atticus! And it could talk!

Magical Beasts that could speak were still quite a rarity, even within the Ascended Realms. It took more than just strength to be able to communicate with other races, and most Magical Beasts wouldn't even make an attempt.

Judging by its Mana Signature and the fact that William couldn't read its Cultivation, he guessed that it was at least in the early stages of the Deity Realm. Its strength was incredible, it could see through illusions, and as a bird it was probably very fast. William doubted he could even escape from it in a real fight.

William climbed onto the Scatterstorm Eagle's back while the owner of the Summoned Beast called a second Scatterstorm Eagle of similar strength for himself. It didn't speak at all, but this Eagle also seemed able to sense Atticus. It wasn't a fluke, but some sort of inherent quality unique to this type of Magical Beast.

For a bird to have so many exceptional qualities... He wanted one!

He divided his attention while the two Eagles flew, opening the Companion Shop that had been largely untouched since his Ascension. After scrolling for a long time, however, William couldn't find the name "Scatterstorm Eagle".

-I'm not going to let you get an egg of something that you haven't even fought. Kill or capture one first.

What? Why? That doesn't make any sense.

-There's a process to the Companion Egg system. It's important that you gather the necessary data and meet some requirements.

Huh? You never said anything like that before! How does that work?

-I won't explain it. Just find one out in the wild before you ask me for an egg. Also, don't you feel bad for wanting another Companion when you have Atticus?

Not at all. Atticus is my little buddy, nothing can replace him.

-Well, maybe you should consider upgrading what you have before you get another one.

I've been working on it, okay? The Heavens might notice him if I don't prepare properly.

The System remained silent, not refuting William's words. Atticus would still need to undergo Tribulations to progress, and according to some conversations he'd had in the past with the System, hiding from the Heavens was countless times more difficult in the Ascended Realms than it was in a Mortal World.

While the two birds flew in the direction of Treymon, William didn't Cultivate, nor did he refine his Mana Circuits or even practice his Magic. Instead, he closed his eyes and spent the entire time wandering through his Sea of Consciousness.

He sifted through the information related to the Primordial Soul Devourer Technique, hoping to glean something that would help him improve the situation.

Before he could even start digesting the information, the first line of the Technique's description stopped William in his tracks.

The Primordial Soul Devourer Technique was created by... huh? It's blank. System, what is this?

-It

The System was about to say something, but it suddenly stopped at the word "it". After a long pause, a new message appeared before him.

-The creator of this Technique seems to have been erased from history.

What do you mean?

-This Technique is so old and the Ancient Cultivator that created it died so long ago that their existence faded away. Either that, or something powerful enough forcefully erased their existence.

Existence... wiped out? William's understanding of the upper limit of Cultivation was raised once again. How many Cultivation Realms above him would someone be able to do that?

He continued reading through the Primordial Soul Devourer Technique, but the language was so old fashioned and irregular that William had a hard time understanding at first. He even found himself manually revising some of the language, which actually lessened the stress on his Sea of Consciousness.

William optimized roughly one percent of the Technique's language by the time the Scatterstorm Eagles reached Treymon. It wasn't much, but William could see that his Sea of Consciousness had partially mended itself.

As long as he was careful, William felt that he could probably get away with one maximum range portal without damaging his Sea of Consciousness.

The problem was, the more that William dug into the workings of the Primordial Soul Devourer Technique, the more he realized that everything in his Sea of Consciousness was just the tip of the iceberg...
