Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 698: Cost

As the massive dragons approached, their ominous silhouettes dominated the horizon, their scales glinting in the sunlight. The sheer number of them, coupled with their gargantuan size, created a surreal and fearsome sight. The soldiers on the walls, ordinarily steadfast and resilient, found themselves facing an unprecedented force that tested the limits of their courage.

The rumbling footsteps of the Leviathan dragons echoed through the air, sending tremors across the landscape. The Kraken dragons, with their tentacles swaying menacingly, added to the intimidating spectacle. The atmosphere in the capital grew tense, and a palpable sense of unease enveloped the city as its inhabitants prepared for the imminent clash.

In the face of such overwhelming adversaries, the soldiers grappled with the realization that the battle ahead would be unlike anything they had experienced before. The impending threat cast a shadow over the capital, and the fate of the city hung in the balance as the dragons drew nearer with each passing moment.

The warriors were ready to move, but they didn't receive the signal to do so, so they waited for it. At the same time, Rain watched the monsters approaching with his arms crossed… it was better to stop them as soon as possible, but the conditions for the plan hadn't been met yet. Still, Rain just waited patiently while sharpening his focus… and when the time came, he went to action.

"First Seal, Second Seal, Third Seal… Off," Rain said and then took a deep breath.

As Rain's body began to get hot thanks to all that power, he also used Limit Breaker and Magic Boost followed by frozen impulse… a single step made Rain cross the distance between him and the dragons, but before taking the second, he stopped and let the enemies see him and at the same time, he put the round coral shield on his left arm.

For a moment, Rain almost could see the surprise of the dragons when they all saw that shield, but their surprises didn't end there. The dragons, with their powerful presence, were suddenly interrupted by a mysterious phenomenon. A brilliant blue ray cut through the battlefield, catching their attention.

Before they could comprehend the nature of this unexpected intrusion, a deafening sound echoed through the air.

As the blue ray vanished, an eerie silence fell over the battlefield. The dragons, previously poised for destruction, now witnessed a gruesome sight. Ten Kraken dragons, powerful and imposing, lay lifeless on the ground. The abrupt and efficient demise of these formidable creatures left the remaining dragons in a state of surprise and confusion.

The battlefield, once dominated by the dragons' overwhelming presence, now bore the marks of a seemingly unknown power that had swiftly turned the tide. The remaining monsters looked around for Rain and they found him wobbling on the ground… he only used it for two seconds, but Rain could already feel the influence of the shield on his mind.

He also felt another issue… all the power that he received made him mess with the muscles in his legs thanks to Frozen Impulse… he flew faster than those dragons could follow him, after all.

Still, thanks to Terra's power, the muscles in his legs began to heal insanely fast and Rain was ready to use it again. When the monsters felt Rain's bloodlust, they covered themselves in those thick layer of water walls, but only that much didn't stop Rain… he ignored the leviathan dragons and just kept dashing thought the kraken dragons defenses.

Like a meteor, Rain pierced through the water walls before hitting the heads of the monsters and completely annihilating them. Every time a kraken dragon was killed, Rain felt like before, he had collided with a concrete wall, but that was bearable if compared to the pain in his legs that he felt afterward.

Rain just got three amazing skills, so this new one seemed weird to say the least… it could be very useful outside combat, but it was essentially useless right at the moment.

Regardless, Rain was forced to take anotehr short break since he messed up the muscles in his legs again. It only lasted five seconds, but plenty of kraken dragons pointed their tentacles at him and then fired their blasts of water.

Rain raised his shield and infused it with mana… in the next moment, the blasts of water hit him, but Rain didn't feel the impact at all. While he was being surrounded by water, he didn't even feel the pressure or the fact that he couldn't breath… Still, Rain felt the will of the shield taking over him.

As the shield's influence cast a dark and blurry haze over Rain's vision, the silhouettes of the approaching dragons remained discernible. Undeterred by the visual distortion, Rain leaped toward the massive creatures, executing his planned onslaught with precision. Despite the compromised clarity, his movements were swift and calculated, and the dragons fell before his relentless assault.

The shield's effects may have obscured his vision, but Rain's instincts and combat prowess remained sharp, actually much shaper, enabling him to carve through the looming threat.

Rain even stopped feeling the pain in his legs and kept killing the monsters… only when the final kraken dragon stopped was when Rain stopped and he finally dropped his shield.

Rain felt a chilling sweat bead on his forehead as an excruciating pain surged through his legs. The intensity of the agony made him cast a worried gaze downward, only to discover a disconcerting sight… he paid the price and it was a high one.
