Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 696 I don't like you that much

While Seara and Terra were organizing the raging phoenix with their new equipment, that it was so powerful that made the temperature in the whole city decrease a fair bit, Branden went to talk alone with Rain.

"Seara told me how your seals worked and she believes that you would benefit a lot from a third one," Branden said. "To win this fight, we will need something to draw the attention of all the enemies and only you can do that. How can we make a new seal?"

"It probably impossible," Rain said.

"Why?" Branden asked.

"You are my friend, I wouldn't mind risking my life a bit for you, but I don't like you that much," Rain said. "The seals need a powerful connection between both parties. I completed them by kissing my wives and my kids in the forehead, even though my seal with them let them take my power when they need it. Sorry, but I don't want to kiss you anywhere."

"As usual, you are someone who have your priorities straight," Branden rubbed his eyes. "Considering what I heard, the gesture shouldn't be that important, but the connection between both parts and an action that makes them understand that their connection is true and unbreakable."

"I suppose that makes sense," Rain thought.

Rain thought for a while about the dilemma of acquiring more seals, realizing that the burden it placed on his friends, parents, and sisters could be too much. Unlike Terra and Seara, the others weren't constantly engaged in battles by his side.

Placing additional seals on him from them could potentially expose them to unforeseen challenges, and Rain was hesitant to impose such risks on those who weren't consistently part of the frontline struggles but not fighting close to him.

Despite his desire for more seals and the potential advantages they offered, Rain found himself conflicted, torn between the necessity of strengthening their forces and the responsibility he felt towards the well-being of his loved ones. The quest for power and protection was a delicate balance, and Rain sought a solution that would safeguard both the Raging Phoenix and those he held dear.

"I want to protect the capital, but I know that I can't do a damn thing in this situation… I have been too busy working behind the scenes, so my skills must have fallen far behind they could be of any use," Branden said. "That is why I want to give you my strength."

"Hey, hey. Don't get all sentimental on me," Rain said while frowning. "This isn't the end. My kids are here, of course the capital isn't going down."

"That is right, and I want to contribute to it showing that much determination," Branden said. "My mana alone won't change things that much and I won't have that much time to enhance the seal with mana, so I will offer something else. I won't fight anymore, I will let you use my strength to fight in my place. For as long as you fight to defend the human kingdom, you can have all of my strength."

Rain could clearly sense the determination emanating from Branden. The seal he contemplated creating bore a significant level of danger, as its unsealing would render him utterly weakened, effectively resetting all his paths to level one even if only temporarily.

However, the unique aspect of this seal lay in its potential to contribute the entirety of Branden's parameters and skill levels to augment Rain's strength.

The weight of this decision wasn't lost on either of them. The sacrifice Branden considered was substantial, willingly subjecting himself to a state of vulnerability for the sake of empowering Rain. The proposal brought forth a complex mixture of gratitude and concern within Rain, as he grappled with the implications of such a profound commitment from his friend.

"... This is a dangerous one, are you sure about that?" Rain asked.

"Yes, I tried to be a good commander before, but I don't need to take that mantle when you can do that better," Branden said. "I will support Esmeralda instead, I will fight elsewhere and leave this kind of fight on your hands. I will be counting on you."

"Man… you sure know how to make someone work like a horse," Rain shrugged and then showed a bro fist.

Branden laughed a bit and then they bumped their fists.

As their fists met in a firm yet simple gesture, Rain could feel the subtle energy of the third seal coming into existence. Branden's intuition proved correct— the intricacies of the gesture mattered less than the sheer will behind its creation.

It was a testament to the power that lay in the intention and determination of those involved, turning a seemingly ordinary act into a conduit for the manifestation ofa powerful seal.

"All right, let me check things for a bit," Rain said and then he did undid the seals for a short moment.

Rain wanted to ask why Branden had such high luck, but he decided to forget about that… his intelligence and wisdom were pretty high as well for someone who haven't been fighting in several years.

"All right, this will do it," Rain said while nodding in satisfaction. "Witht this much… I should be able to show a good one."

"Show what, exactly?" Branden asked as he felt weird without his usual strength, but he also felt relieved since it was on the hands of someone that he could trust completely.

"You will see it soon," Rain grinned.
