In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Orochimaru’s Thoughts

"It seems I was right—you really don't have the talent to become a ninja."

Noticing the shift in Ryo's expression, Cynthia struck again, her words like daggers piercing straight into his heart.

Ryo shot her a glare. "So what if I'm not a ninja? I'm still strong, aren't I?"

"And besides, I have Dragonite and the others. Can any ninja be stronger than them?"

Cynthia rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed.

Ryo felt a surge of frustration—he really wanted to smack her a couple of times.

"Don't get too cocky. Very few people are actually born with ninja talent. You might not have it either," he said, huffing.

Cynthia shrugged. "If I don't, then I don't. Sure, I'd like to be strong, but it's not like it's a necessity. If I can't, I can't."

"Oh? Boss, are you two trying to see if you have ninja potential? If so, I could help."

A voice sounded from the back entrance. Ryo and Cynthia turned toward it.

There, standing in the doorway, was Orochimaru—disguised, yet still bearing that eerie, unsettling smile.

"You? You can check for ninja potential?"

Seeing him, Ryo's eyes lit up with interest.

Orochimaru nodded. "If it's just a test, that's simple enough."

"Alright."

Ryo nodded back. "Then I'll trouble you to test her."

While Ryo wouldn't trust Orochimaru with much else, when it came to assessing talent, he had no doubts.

After all, as a researcher, Orochimaru had access to all the data Konoha had. If even Konoha could perform this test, there was no way Orochimaru couldn't.

If he couldn't do something this simple, he wouldn't have been able to develop all the things he did.

"Ah… ah?"

Cynthia blinked in shock as Ryo pointed at her.

She wasn't even processing what was happening.

It's happening now?

Already?

She hadn't even had time to think about it!

Ryo rolled his eyes. "What are you dawdling for? Go get tested already."

"Oh."

Still a bit dazed, Cynthia walked over to Orochimaru.

Orochimaru didn't waste any time. He gathered chakra into his palm and placed a hand on Cynthia's shoulder.

The moment he did, Cynthia felt a strange energy surge into her body, flowing through her like a current, scanning her from the inside.

Silence filled the wooden house.

Ryo tensed up slightly, his eyes fixed on the test.

Deep down, he really hoped Cynthia could become a ninja.

After all, the world of Naruto wasn't like the Pokémon world—there were no rules against harming trainers here.

If Cynthia had no way to protect herself, she would always be in danger.

If it turned out she didn't have the potential, Ryo would have to hope that he could find some way to grant her power in the future.

Moments later, Orochimaru removed his hand, a smirk playing on his lips. "Not bad. You do have the talent to become a ninja."

"R-Really?"

Cynthia's eyes widened in disbelief. Her hands trembled slightly from excitement.

Ryo also turned his gaze toward Orochimaru, awaiting confirmation.

Orochimaru nodded. "It's true. However, you're already a bit older. Even if you train now, you likely won't reach a particularly high level."

Cynthia shook her head. "That's fine. As long as I can become a ninja, that's enough."

For her, it wasn't about becoming overwhelmingly powerful.

She simply wanted some strength—just enough to hold her own.

After all, she was still a young woman who had lived in a peaceful era. The allure of great power wasn't as strong for her.

Ryo, however, frowned slightly.

He wasn't satisfied with her just becoming a ninja—he wanted her to become strong.

Still, he put those thoughts aside for now and smiled. "Congratulations. You're officially on your way to becoming a ninja."

Cynthia returned a soft smile, not saying much in response.

"Oh, right. Here, take this."

Orochimaru handed her a scroll. "This contains the method to train chakra. Once you've mastered it, you'll officially be a ninja."

Cynthia hesitated for a moment, then glanced at Ryo.

Ryo nodded. "Go ahead and take it. This is nothing to him."

Hearing that, Orochimaru turned his gaze toward Ryo, his eyes narrowing slightly.

Cynthia, meanwhile, accepted the scroll. "Thank you."

Orochimaru waved a hand dismissively. "It's nothing. Just a small favor."

Then, his gaze flickered with curiosity. "By the way, boss… can Pokémon train chakra?"

Ryo blinked.

That question caught him off guard.

"I don't know," he admitted. "I've never tried."

Deep down, he was startled.

Orochimaru had just encountered Pokémon for the first time, and already he was asking something like this?

All the others who had come to catch Pokémon before had never even thought of this question.

Even Cynthia looked taken aback, staring at Orochimaru in disbelief.

Yet, Orochimaru remained unfazed.

"Hmm." He nodded, then looked at Ryo again. "Then, boss… would you allow me to run a test to see if Pokémon can train chakra?"

Ryo's curiosity sparked.

"Of course," he agreed. "As long as you don't hurt them."

Orochimaru nodded once again and took out his Poké Ball, releasing Haunter.

"Ha-haaa~"

The released Haunter greeted Ryo excitedly before turning to look at Orochimaru.

Orochimaru didn't respond, instead concentrating chakra in his palm and reaching out toward Haunter.

Haunter blinked in confusion, seemingly curious about Orochimaru's actions.

Meanwhile, both Ryo and Cynthia held their breaths.

This was a groundbreaking test—if it turned out that Pokémon could indeed train in chakra, their potential for strength would be immeasurable.

However, moments later, Orochimaru lowered his hand, a hint of disappointment on his face.

He shook his head at Ryo. "I can't detect anything. Pokémon's physiology is too different from humans."

Ryo also felt a pang of disappointment but quickly shook it off. "That's fine. It's to be expected."

While he had held onto some hope, he hadn't expected much. So even if the result was a letdown, it wasn't a major blow.

Cynthia felt the same way—disappointed at first but quickly regaining her composure.

"Alright then. If there's nothing else, I'll be taking my leave."

Ryo nodded but then fixed Orochimaru with a serious gaze. "One last thing—remember, if you capture a Pokémon, you are not allowed to harm it. We can sense when a Pokémon is injured, and if a captured Pokémon gets hurt because of its trainer… even if you're one of the Legendary Three, I won't let it slide."

Orochimaru's pupils shrank slightly as he looked at Ryo.

Then, after a brief pause, he smiled and nodded. "Understood, boss. I'll be careful about that."
